Ch. 5

"Oh how the mighty have fallen." Jokul giggled to himself, watching the Guardians tumble out of their crashed sleigh. For indeed, they were a pitiful sight. North was hobbling around, using his swords as canes, the fairy couldn't fly, and the rabbit - ha! He was nowhere near his former height, currently just a blob of fur and whiny cowardice. Then there was that man of sand... speaking of which, where was he?

No matter. The mighty had fallen, and close, they were, to disappearing. Vanishing from existence and leaving Jokul to vanquish the Moon Man.

"Oh what fun it will be!" He giggled louder, whirling to point his staff at the Moon. "Your pets are fading, and then what? No more of your games. Your toys here on this planet will be gone, your power over me gone." He shot up into th sky cackling.

"Moon Man! I will fight you and and you shall be destroyed! Gone! No more shall you destroy the lives of the Ancients! I will banish you from my lands!" Ice scattered from his limbs as he cackled wildly, forgetting his audience and the battle that was soon to be fought below him. "You will be forgotten!"

"My, my. Well wasn't that a lovely little show." A slow drawl echoed behind the spirit. "Jokul Frosti isn't it? My, it has been a long time, my friend."

Spinning around, Jokul felt his breath catch in his throat. Right before him, floated Pitch Black, tormentor extrordinaire, and consumer of- "YOU!" He shouted, eyes alighting with untamed fury. Silence echoed out from that single word; as Jokul gazed with unadulterated hatred at the Nightmare King, nightmares and Guardians alike, halted their fighting to look up and watch the encounter between the two.

"Now now Jokul, no need to get your frost in a tizzy. This is no way to treat an old friend, especially one who consorts with darkness, like your former ally, oh..." Pitch paused to clean his nails, "Death. Was it not?"

Jokul's forehead furrowed in anger. Still keeping his staff pointed at the Shadow Keeper, he spoke up. "You have spent far too long upon this planet, Black. As another pawn of the Moon's, I am pushed to vanquish you where you stand. As a Consumer of those from Before Time, I will do it gladly."

Pitch quirked an eyebrow at the glow beginning to form at the end of his foe's staff. "With what? That twig? As if. Now Frosti, both you and I know that all of this is a continued plan of the Moon's. Why not stray from his ploy and side with me, hm? That will throw him full tilt and cause him to fall from the sky~!"

"I don't believe you understand, Black. The Moon has always planned for me to side with you. Why do you believe he's continued to add all of these other... pieces, eh? He's attempting to corrupt me, to throw me into the deep pit of insanity, that which you came out of, yet continue to inhabit. It's quite simple, Black, if I join you, that wretched being will renew his little Guardians' power, and aid them in our destruction.

"He will finally have destroyed the only one spirit who has caused him so much grief in the past. You are simply one of his toys, whereas I am a rebel. An escapee. Back Before Time, there were Five; Life, Death, Dark, Light, and Mother; Moon Created them, they were peaceful.

"I was an experiment, a new being, an Element." Jack had settled upon a cloud of ice, Black resting upon his own cloud of sand, far below them the fading Guardians listened in astonishment to a history they never before had heard of.

"I made them balanced, yet unbalanced; they welcomed me, the wind - the only Being older than the Moon - came to earth and awakened me; we played, all of us, upon this grand place - the Moon Man's playground.

"With his new toys the Moon Man watched us, then he began to add in new elements, new creatures for us to interact with. Creatures which stole our purpose, which consumed our beings and enveloped the planet with their essence.

"Quickly, seasons were created, Spring, Summer, and Autumn. They warred with Light and Life, Dark tried to help, but could not aid them. The world became unbalanced, Winter ran rampant. They faded, Dark was weakened yet survived." Jack stared deeply into Pitch's eyes. "Pitch Black was born. He consumed my brother and grew in greed. He yearned to consume all, knowing his reign brought unbalance and horror upon my planet.

"Death and I, as the only survivors banded together, causing an Age of Ice and Death. You, Black, yearned to consume us, followed us, and forced us to split. And NOW," Frosti leapt from his perch. "NOW you tell you have CONSUMED him? You will pay for your insanity!"

Jokul attacked.

Blow for blow was matched.

A pawn of the Moon facing the only remaining rebel.

Black Sand snuck behind, only to be halted by blasts of ice and daggers.

Hand-to-hand grappling erupted, shadows and ice interchanging constantly.

Fury and hatred echoed from one's cold blues eyes, whilst the hunger of insanity craved for satiation.

Neither one let up.

Neither one gained a foot hold.

Locked into a battle of wits, power, and the lust for victory, two spirits wreaked havoc upon the structures surrounding them, yet took no notice, so intent were they in the destruction of the other.

And so they remained for an eternity.

Aw darn. I had hoped to put this up before the end of the year. Oh well. Happy New Year lovelies. Hope you enjoyed.
