Until you make your unconscious, conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate. - Jung Carl
Ithilien, Fifty Year of the Fourth Age (FA), December 1st
During some points of his ordeal, he got the impression that he was all by himself. His voice was lost in the cacophony of other people's voices that lured him more into his dreams. He felt as if he was looking in on his life from the outside like he was looking through a window because of the pain caused by the recollections of his mother's capture and death in the past.
His recurring nightmares occurred anytime he slept through the night, which was unusual for an elf since the general elven condition did not let elves sleep unless they were weary and needed rest. However, the elf slept every night due to the fact that once he had retrieved his memories, he was never the same.
It was the appropriate time for him to sail from the moment that darkness was born inside him, and he was suffering through so much agony and sorrow at the time. However, he would not abandon his family and friends in order to achieve serenity in his life.
He had seen his father fight through his own personal darkness, and his beloved one was also fighting through it; together, they battled their way through it. He had made the decision to defend himself. He was well aware that the moment would eventually come for him to set ship and leave Middle Earth. However, he would not be travelling alone on that trip. It seemed likely that his dependable companion Gimli, as well as Xena, would go after him.
Xena hoped that she would be able to heal him and make him forget all that had happened to him. But the only thing that was within her power was to sit by his side and support him while he navigated his own unique route to wholeness. This was his voyage, and he travelled it by himself. Both he and she were forced to bear their own burdens of darkness.
He was very fortunate to have a partner who could assist him in re-establishing connections with all of the aspects of life that had been estranged from him and diverted his attention away from the allure of the sea. Because in normal circumstances there were always present internal triggers that may lead him to get immersed in memories and lose himself in the process.
The more he understood his shadow side, the greater his own strength grew, and the less anxiety and resentment he felt against his history. In the end, his shadow was a component of who he was, and it was the thing that was lacking in him for him to become whole.
And while he became.
They have children and friends and have shared a life for over half a century. Legolas had learnt to live with his agony and darkness, and Xena had accepted that Middle-earth was her home. They had embarked on numerous journeys together, and sometimes each had travelled alone. They had seen their children grow up and chose their own paths as adults. Xena never imagined that she would be fortunate enough to see their children reach the age when they could live at home.
First, there was their eldest child, whose name alone had become a legend. It took them ten years to choose a name for the child, after which a fresh argument began. With Thranduil maintaining that Gabriel was a feminine name, the firstborn male heir should be named Gabriel, he insisted. He was also known as their firstborn, and the elf kind gave him the name Eruinúnor
Eldarion, the son of Aragorn and Arwen, gave him the name Erúnor, which he retained. Eldarion and Erúnor, were not only cousins but also trustworthy companions. They have spent most of their time together, and Erúnor has been seen more often in Minas Tirith than in Ithilien.
After becoming adults, Eldarion and Erúnor travelled across Middle-earth and had many adventures. When Eldarion became the next king of the Reunited Kingdom, Erúnor served as his captain of the army. Erúnor was reared in accordance with certain elf customs, although he mostly accepted the new ear. Respected and trusted in both Minas Tirith and Ithilien, he divided his time between the two cities.
Although Erúnor was not the only member of his family to spend time in Minas Tirith, Eleyewn, the couple's eldest daughter, was also attracted to the city. She gathered books and manuscripts from Lothlórien, Imladris, and Mirkwood, and transported them to Minas Tirith. She gained notoriety as the librarian of the Minas Tirith library. As the bookkeeper worked calmly, just her eyes were privy to the numbers and titles that occupied a portion of her mind. It could be seen in the rhythm of her emotions and in the way her pen danced over the paper, but only someone who loved her would ever recognise it.
She had created and constructed a unique unit of libraries in Arda. The custodian of the books was a warrior and a scholar. No one else was able to read the pages. The legend said that in actuality, she was the book and the book was her and that the appearance of the two as distinct was an illusion that allowed humans to understand the universe beyond the apparent.
The rest of their offspring had also found their path; some had become warriors like their parents, some had become travellers, and still, others had just pursued their own ambitions. Their stories would be spoken and sung in the years that followed, and as time passed, they would become myths, and myths would become legends. No one really knows what happened to them after their parents travelled to Valinor, but they were all loved and nurtured with care.
