Selene the Mom Goddess
Chapter 3: Meeting the Family
A few days later,
Selene had somewhat gotten the hang of taking care of the triplets, but was becoming increasingly worried. She had help from Storkules with taking care of the boys, but it was starting become apparent that Zeus was becoming more suspicious of their behavior. And to add more to Selene's stress, the Greek God Reunion was today, and she wasn't sure on what to do. She knew if she brought the boys with her, Zeus would be furious, and tell her to take them away from Ithaquack, and she didn't want to do that, especially after the promise that she made to Donald, nor did she want to hear her father go off on ANOTHER one of his rants. And she didn't want to leave them alone in her garden. She was truly at a crossroads. Just then, a knock came from the entrance to her garden. She then used her magic to open the door, "SELENE!" an upbeat voice called out, one that Selene recognized. She turned to see a swan woman, dressed in a bright, fuchsia toga like dress.
"Mom!" Selene exclaimed, as she went to embrace her mother, Hera.
"And how is my little moon goddess today?" Hera asked.
"Pretty good, all things considered," Selene replied. Hera, being the mother she was, immediately grew concerned.
"Is something wrong? Is your father being a child again?" Hera asked.
"No, it's not that. Come with me," Selene replied, as she led her mother over to the crib, where Huey, Dewey, and Louie were all sleeping, but were slowly waking up. Hera was shocked upon seeing them, "I was asked by the brother of a friend of mine to take care of them."
"Oh... my... goodness! They are so cute!" Hera exclaimed quietly, as not to wake the babies. Selene was surprised that her mother was so accepting so quickly, "Selene, why did you not tell me I was a grandma?!" she asked giddily.
"Well, I figured with how Dad is regarding mortals, I figured it would be best to keep quiet about it," Selene replied.
"Oh pish-posh. Your father is just a sore looser because of what happened between him and Scrooge McDuck. C'mon! We should introduce these little angels to the rest of the family!" Hera exclaimed, as she helped Selene carry the crib out of the garden, being careful as not to rouse the babies prematurely . The two of them proceeded outside of the temple, where the other gods were, "Hey everyone! Selene here has great news!" she called out. She mentally kicked herself when she heard the triplets begin fussing.
"What kind of..." a beautiful duck goddess cut herself off upon seeing the babies, that Selene was trying to comfort. This goddess had a valley girl accent, "O... M... GOSH! Selene, when did you become a mother or a babysitter?" she asked, enraptured by how adorable they were.
"I was asked to do this as a favor from the brother of an old friend of mine," Selene said, as she and Hera cradled the babies.
"Aren't they just the cutest, Aphrodite?" Hera asked, given the duck goddess a better look.
"Totes cute!" Aphrodite replied.
"You said these little ones are the children of a friend of yours?" a goose god, dressed like a gladiator, asked.
"That's right Ares. Though, I will admit, she was a bit... more than a friend," Selene said.
"What do you mean?" Hera asked. Selene plucked up the courage to say what needed to be said.
"The boy's mother is my girlfriend," Selene said, flinching, as she expected the worst.
"What's with all the flinching?" Aphrodite asked, embracing Selene.
"Yeah, it's fine with us if you're dating a woman," a pelican god said, who held a trident, and wore a crown that looked to be made of coral.
"So, you guys are all ok with this?" Selene asked.
"Of course. It ain't our place to judge you," another swan goddess, wearing a dress with flowers in it was holding up a smart phone. On the screen, was a goth, stork god. Selene breathed a sigh of relief.
"Hey now, what's all the hubbub?" all the other gods looked annoyed, as a large, muscular duck god in a toga, and wearing a golden crown approached the group.
"Nothing that need concern you, Zeus," Hera replied, trying to remain civil.
"Aww, come on! You guys aren't still mad about the whole year long storm, are you?!" Zeus quizzed.
"Well, there is that, but no, it's something else entirely," Hera replied. It was then that Zeus noticed the triplets.
"What is this?! Mortal babies in the realm of the gods?!" Zeus was outraged. The other gods had looks like they were expecting this. The babies only babbled, unaware of what was about to happen.
"Here guys, put them in here," Selene said, conjuring the crib they were sleeping in. The other gods who were holding the babies placed them inside. Selene then conjured a bubble around the crib, "Father, I know what you're thinking, but we can't just simply send these three away. They happen to be the sons of Della, my old friend. You remember her, right?" she asked.
"Yes, unfortunately. She is the niece of Scrooge McDuck, but what does..." Zeus then put two and two together, "Are these the offspring of that woman? Are they of blood relation to THAT GUY?!" Zeus yelled, storm clouds forming over head.
"They are, because they are the sons of Della! I was asked by her brother to raise them, since there's a bit of friction between her brother and Scrooge, something about Della disappearing," Selene replied.
"Then take them to an orphanage or something! I will not have mortals sullying this once great isle!" Zeus declared.
"ENOUGH!" Hera boomed, getting between her husband and daughter, "Zeus, it's high time you gave up on this childish vendetta you have against Scrooge McDuck!" she demanded.
"Hera has a point. It's not his fault that you chose to be a sore loser, instead of just taking defeat with a grain of salt," Poseidon stated.
"And it's your own fault that the rest of the Gods don't really like hanging out with you anymore. You brought all of this on yourself, Zeus," Hephestus added.
"Well, maybe if Scrooge had never shown up, none of that would've ever happened," Zeus pouted.
"Enough!" Hera said, confronting her husband, "Zeus, you may be the king of the Gods, but you're acting like a spoiled toddler instead!" she stated. Zeus was about to say something when Ares attempted to break it up.
"Look, Zeus, we all know how much you despise Scrooge McDuck, and while these three infants are of blood relation to him, just try giving them chance. Who knows? You may come to like them, just like the rest of us already like them," the God of War urged, looking towards the crib, where Persephone, Aphrodite and Selene were all making cooing noises at the babies.
"Oh, alright. If I am to live up to my reputation as a God of Hospitality, then I might as well. But while I do accept them as Selene's surrogate children, I refuse to accept them as one of us," Zeus declared.
"That's fine, as long as you don't do anything stupid to upset them," Selene replied, as they went on with the reunion.
