Leah spent the day of helping set up and make the decorations as was the tradition for the women to do the day before the wedding. Leah actually managed to enjoy herself even though she was completely exhausted from the lack of sleep she had. She was feeling a lot happier about her choice she made, choosing Loki over her brother now seemed % the right thing to do. Everything had worked out for the best in the grand scale of things. She now had more hope than ever that her brother was on his way to excepting who she had chosen to marry and spend the rest of her life with.
However as she sat there making a garland out of flowers, berries and vines part of her began to doubt him. She knew Clint was a talented agent and he always managed to reassure her when things were not actually fine. The memory of him holding the knife to her throat was still vivid in her mind. The hatred that Clint had for her was clear in the way he behaved at the start of their meeting, there was a chance that he would turn around and stab her in the back just to get back at Loki. Especially if she was going with all that was precious to Loki, if she took Astrid with her and this did in fact turn out to be a plot against Loki, all of Loki's own family would be taken from him.
She just let out a sigh while she worked on the garland thinking about what to do and steps she could take to prevent such a thing happening. She looked up her eyes finding Astrid, who seemed happy running around the great hall enjoying the open space. She could not deny Astrid from meeting her uncle, one who would love her unconditionally and protect her with his life. Leah remembered the way that Clint had help to raise her from a young age, there was times she was his little sister and times where he acted like a father. She always hoped he would settle down, retire from SHIELD and have children himself, he was great with kids.
"You seem to be deep in thought." The Queen commented from the other end of the table as she worked on the wreath type decoration she was making.
"Just planning what I need to do tomorrow to make myself beautiful for Loki." Leah lied looking up at the Queen smiling.
"You need not to do anything to yourself Leah." The Queen shook her head smiling broadly. "Loki has chosen a bride that has natural beauty, you just need to come as yourself to please him."
"Thank you." Leah blushed looking back down at the garland.
"No need to thank me, I should be thanking you to bringing my son back to us." The Queen told her. "You will join me for dinner tonight won't you." Leah nodded in reply. "And you Jane." The Queen turned to Jane who looked surprised and also nodded enthusiastically. There was a sudden crash and sound of things falling to the floor making Leah look over to Astrid who was staring at her waiting for some sort of response. Leah just pointed at Astrid who pouted before smiling back at her mother.
The Queen stood up glancing at them before leaving and helping untangle Astrid from whatever she had done, Leah just smiled knowing that the Queen was trying to reach out to Jane. Leah remembered how it was being terrified about doing the wrong thing in front of her. Leah smirked at how her friend had become slightly on edge after the Queen had spoken to her.
"Relax." Leah said to her friend. "She is a lovely woman, kin, generous and very understanding."
"I am just, it means too much to Thor." Jane sighed "To have his family accept me."
"I know." Leah leant back "But she just wants to know you and she will love you. She helped me and Loki get together after all and I was a complete outsider at the time. I was meant to make sure that Loki got the punishment he deserved, I was starting right at the bottom but she still welcomed me with open arms. Look I will collect you tonight if that will help your nerves."
"Please." Jane pleaded making Leah just smile.
Evening came and Leah was dressing in a fine emerald-green dress with beautiful golden floral embroidery on. She had left Astrid with one of the servants considering how busy she had been today running around the hall they were making the decorations had worn her into exhaustion. By now Leah was lagging to after one night of no sleep. She met Jane at her room finding her in a light blue dress, she looked great.
"Ready." Leah asked
She saw how nervous Jane was when she just nodded, Leah just smiled reassuringly before they walked to the Queen's chambers. The evening was great and very relaxed. Leah was just pleased that Jane was able to speak more freely to the Queen.
"I am going to retire." Leah yawned before standing. "It is a big day after all."
She gave Jane a hug and a kiss on the Queens cheek before leaving, knowing some alone time with the pair would not hurt. Quickly she headed back to her chambers relieving the servant looking after Astrid. She wrapped herself up in her long coat before picking up the sleeping Astrid and carrying her down to the observatory. Heimdall was there waiting for her, he just gazed down at the little princess in her arms before saying.
"Do you think it's safe enough to take the Princess Astrid with you?" He sounded very stern and blunt in the matter. Leah's thoughts went back to what she was thinking earlier, it could all be a trap she was walking straight into. She let out a sigh thinking for a moment before looking directly back at the tall man.
"I do not believe brother won't hurt me or my family." Leah said though the logical part of her mind did start protesting. She stared at the man she had come to trust before continuing. "He is my brother after all. What would you suggest I do?"
"A brother he may be, but he still does not like your choice you made with Prince Loki. He has been at SHIELD today in fact." Heimdall replied staring at her seriously. "I do not think it's wise to take something which could be used against you and Loki."
"But you have seen what he has done today, you know if he has planned something right? What would you suggest I do then good Heimdall?" Leah stared at Heimdall hoping he would give her some answers and suggestions which would calm her nerves but keep her from seeing Clint "I need to do this to be happy tomorrow to have no regrets about not trying to get my brother back."
"I do not believe he has said anything directly but your world speaks in riddles I do not understand. I would suggest however to get a friend to come with you." Heimdall replied thinking for a moment. "Someone who you could trust with all your heart with everything that is precious to you."
"Steve" Leah instantly answered. "He is a good man, a friend and has helped me before." Leah smiled at him seeing him nod. "Would that make you happier Heimdall?"
"Yes it would." Heimdall nodded smiling slightly. "Shall I will send you there first."
Leah just nodded as the wormhole opened up she pressed Astrid closer to her knowing this was it this was the one chance she had to get Clint back. After landing on earth and managing to keep on her feet trying not to wake Astrid from her sleep, Leah headed straight to Steve's knocking on the door. Keeping Astrid close in her arms, the heavy weight of her daughter reassuring her that she was doing the right thing for her family.
"I actually expected to see you tonight, I knew you wouldn't let it go." He commented as she stepped through the door before unwrapping Astrid to stop her from getting too warm which stopped Steve from speaking for a moment. She glanced up at his as his big blue eyes became wide and his mouth opened slightly in shock before he continued. "But not this little one, is this her, is this your daughter?"
"Yeah, Steve this is my daughter Astrid." Leah told Steve smiling at the sappy look that came to his face from just looking at her daughter, whose eyes were still closed and dreaming peacefully. "I am guessing you know or presumed that I went to see Clint last night. So I was wondering if you would come with me to Clint's. I just want to have someone who could protect us well Astrid if the worse would to happen."
"You're worried that it will?" Steve frowned crossing his arms across his broad chest. She could see the concern in his eyes but understood why considering Clint was his friend as much as she was.
"No not really." Leah shook her head thinking a moment before answering. "I am just doing it to make a friend happy knowing we are on Earth. So will you just come with us to be on the safe side?"
"Okay." Steve nodded letting out a sigh smiling weakly, obviously still unhappy about what was happening but seeing the reason why. "Let me grab a coat."
Steve pulled on his leather coat, he insisted on carrying Astrid out to a cab, she still slept completely unaware of what was happening. Leah smiled seeing her friend with her daughter, it was what she wanted to know that Astrid had another person she could turn too if needed. All Leah wanted was to know that if Astrid wanted to come to Earth when she was older she had people to turn too.
They arrive at Clint's, Leah used the key he had given to her, his flat was completely empty. Leah just let out a sigh of relief knowing that Heimdall was worrying over nothing. She was half expecting the place to be full of SHIELD agents ready to fire upon them. Steve placed Astrid down on the sofa and letting her sleep till Clint arrived. Leah just walked around the apartment checking it thoroughly to make sure it was clear before coming back into the living room.
"So you came here alone?" Steve looked at her not approving of it already.
"Yeah last night." Leah nodded looking up at him knowing that he seemed not to like the idea of her risking herself. "I had too Steve. It was my last chance to get him to see, for him to understand and possible accept me back in his life before I get married. "
"After all I said and warned you?" Steve rose an eyebrow at her questioningly, she could see the disapproving look in his eyes but also noticed that there was sympathy for her too.
"Yeah I know." Leah shrugged smiling back at him weakly. "But he is my brother, my blood, all I had for years. I couldn't give up on him or give up on all of that history we had."
"I guess." Steve sighed relaxing his broad shoulders and sitting down before staring up at her. "I just wish you came back to me first, not to risk yourself like that."
"Sorry." Leah apologised feeling a little guilty that Steve felt that way about what she did. She hated it when ever she had disappointed any one. She counted Steve like family after all the time they had spent together during his adaption into this time and SHIELD, that made it even worse.
Leah was drawn from her thoughts when she heard the door click unlock and opened. She looked up as Steve stood up seeing Clint enter through the door with someone following him in.
