Sonic Trigger—A Tale Spanning Across Time And Space
Welcome to my first chapter based story, and it's a cross-over! You might want to brace yourself for this one!
This combines two 90's favorites of mine, Sonic The Hedgehog (SatAM) and the Chrono Series! Hopefully you'll see why as this story unfolds...but as a famous comedian once said, "And now, for something completely different..."

Prologue
You wish to fight Lavos, correct?
Many paths lay open to you.
You may use that bucket. Or fly the Wings of Time to the Day of Lavos...
Just as you touch the lives of every life form you meet, so, too, will their energy strengthen you.
Fail to live up to your potential, and you will never win...
These words echoed through the young inventor's mind as she adjusted her helmet. Running her hands through her short purple hair, Lucca prepared to make a gutsy decision. The worst thing that could happen was that they would end up back here at The End Of Time, talking to old man Gaspar again.
The spirited redhead next to her gave a silent nod, and gestured to the Wings of Time, a small white airship they had affectionately dubbed the Epoch. Both nomenclatures were based on its amazing ability to punch through the very time stream itself. That and it was a stylish ride!
A impassioned smile crept past her lips. "Oh no, I know that smile anywhere! Lucca, don't tell me you have something planned!" The young princess, Marle, walked up to the two glaring at the both of them. "We just got Crono back! I think it's time we took a break before deciding our next move!" Crossing her arms, she huffed as she turned her head to side with eyes closed.
"Says the one who jumped through stained glass dramatically to rescue your father." A knock against her head was her reward for the back talk.
The aforementioned redhead ran his hand across his spiky hair, grinning impishly. "Not you too, Crono! Ugh..." With hands to her hips, she regarded the young scientist with a curious glare. "So, what is it Lucca?"
"Glad you asked!"
–
"I do not see the relevance this has to our quest." A strained ribbit soon followed, as the knightly amphibian brought a hand to one of his whiskers.
"It's called a tactical advantage and given what we been through..." Lucca's palm was up against her head as she attempted to explain to Frog how it was all gonna work out. "Look. We know how the gates work, they can send us through time consistently as long as we stay in groups of three, right?"
"Yes, I gathered that. Lass, what is the point of stating the obvious?" Frog appeared visibly annoyed as he practiced with the newly renewed legendary blade, the Masamune. "Now, I have to retrain my arms to compensate for how lightweight this sword has become!"
He peered over Lucca's shoulder to see the katana wielder tapping his foot against the floating platform that held them aloft, one of several. Crono was waiting for his turn to spar. "Ah I see the young-ling has tired of waiting as well!"
"Look, I already asked both Crono and Marle, and they're on board! You are my last hope left..." The purple-haired girl glanced over at the tan automaton and the wild lady clad in little more than a gray wildcat pelt. "Robo keeps talking about how 'illogical' it is and Ayla still doesn't trust the 'flying bird'!" Lucca stared at the knight, waiting for a reply.
"No, I know what the true reason is Lucca. Don't patronize me." His large eyes were drawn to a particular unused part of the Epoch.
–
"Why did I agree to this?" A muffled voice sounded out of the cargo bay of the time traveling craft as switches were flipped. The ship began to rise.
"Ahh...four traveling simultaneously through time! Once this test run is complete, Lavos will be unable to stop all of us at once!" Lucca readied herself at the pilot's seat with a massive grin on her face.
The other passengers, Crono and Marle peered over the edge of the craft towards Frog's plea.
"Yeah, a test run Lucca. That's all this is! Be glad the old geezer's sleeping through all this." Marle replied to the boast, bringing her gaze up to Gaspar. "I'm still impressed he can nap standing up..."
Crono laughed at this and banged the side of the ship with his hand. "That's not funny, Crono. You try it next time, whelp!" He quickly brought his arms in as the cockpit door slid into position, sealing them inside.
"Okay! Let's do this! To the year 1000...!" Originally, her plan was to directly go to their intended destination of 1999, but that was a little -too- dangerous!
Flicking the final switch and moving her hands to the steering wheel, she pumped her fist in the air! Meticulously crafted engines fired as the bronze winged aircraft hurtled forward towards its destination! Intense energy flared around the Epoch as it began to carve its way through time.
Suddenly, klaxons sounded as a new image appeared on the display! "Uh, Lucca. What -is- that?"
The princess pointed forward but the inventor's head was firmly in the onboard display. "Just some...fluctuations. I predicted this! Engaging full power!" She felt a tap on her shoulder, and turned to see the redhead also pointing forward, his mouth agape. Tilting her head forward, she saw it too late as a purple and yellow gate formed before them!
A gate...here!?
