The alarm of 126 sounded, interrupting the meal of the two teams who jumped into their vehicles, TK got behind the wheel of the ambulance, following the red vehicle.
"Man in his thirties armed with a knife. He seems to be hallucinating, and threatens the people around him to kill them if they do not bring him to a certain Liam. He has already wounded two bystanders including a pregnant woman. The police are joining us there", announced Captain Vega.
TK and Nancy confirmed that they understood the situation. The tension rose a little within the vehicle, a rescuer, in another team, had been seriously injured by a man who had lost his mind a few months earlier, the dangerousness of the situation was not to be taken lightly.
The young man stressed by discovering his boyfriend already on the scene when they arrived. The police were definitely the most exposed in this kind of situation and the idea of seeing Carlos in his ambulance didn't excite him at all.
The team quickly scanned the scene as they alighted from their vehicle. They were in a residential area, in front of a house, small for Texas, surrounded by a strip of grass and a hedge. There was a man with a knife yelling at the people around him that they shouldn't move, but also that they should bring a certain Liam to him. He was very tall, blond, very square. This man was a mountain of muscle. He was holding a man who didn't seem injured by the arm. A few feet away from him, another man with a cut that seemed deep in his shoulder was seated. Captain Vega sent firefighters to deal with this man while she and her team went to the side of a young pregnant woman lying on the sidewalk on the opposite side. They passed behind the police to join her, but they were interrupted.
"Liam!" yelled the madman.
Everyone froze and looked at him. The man's gray eyes pierced TK as soon as their gazes met.
"Liam, where were you?" the blonde asked angrily.
"Go take care of her," whispered TK passing between the policemen to get closer to the man.
Carlos grabbed his boyfriend's arm as he walked past him, not bearing the thought of him approaching this dangerous man.
"Leave him alone ! No one touches my man!"
Carlos' whole body tensed suddenly, not liking any other man, however disturbed, to imply that he was TK's man.
"I'll be fine, let me go, it's the only way he'll let go of this hostage," the rescuer whispered, looking the Latino in the eyes. "I love you, it will be fine."
Carlos resigned himself and let him go.
"What's his first name," TK added just before turning to the madman.
"Dylan."
With a heavy heart, the policeman watched his love walk towards this armed man who had the power to snatch him away from him forever with a wave of his arm.
"Dylan, I'm sorry," TK said approaching slowly as he would have done with a frightened animal.
"Where were you ?" the blonde got angry, pressing the knife a little more on his victim's throat.
"I was lost…" tried the rescuer for whom the lack of knowledge about this man was a problem.
"It's him ? Was he holding you back?" Dylan shouted, pointing at Carlos.
"No, he's a friend, he helped me find you."
The term friend hurt the policeman, but he let nothing show. It was a fool's game that had taken place before his eyes and the slightest misstep could lead them to a tragic outcome.
"Dylan, please let go of this man."
"If I let him go, you'll leave, you'll leave with him."
"I'll be by your side as soon as you let go of this man and your knife."
Dylan stared intently at TK for several minutes before slowly loosening his grip on his hostage. Judd picked up the man and led him to Captain Vega for a checkup, but he seemed fine.
"Drop your knife," TK encouraged, taking a few cautious steps toward Dylan.
The police stood ready to intervene. Carlos stared at the maniac and his knife. He would have given anything to keep him away from his lover, but he also knew that at this moment TK was their best chance for all this not to end in a bloodbath.
"They're going to arrest me, Dylan breathed in a broken voice, the knife well in hand."
"Yes, but it's better than your death."
"Will you be there when I go out?"
"Put down your knife."
"Liam!" he shouted closing the distance between him and TK and grabbing him by the collar.
"Dylan, let him go!" thundered the voice of Carlos who was really scared now.
The blond turned his gaze to the Latino.
"You don't come near me," he threatened, bringing his knife closer to TK.
Carlos nodded and Dylan dropped his knife without TK seeing him. Before the police could force Dylan to release TK and arrest him, the blond man grabbed the paramedic by the hair and kissed him full on the mouth. Several exclamations of surprise rang out as well as Carlos' growl of anger.
TK didn't realize what was happening to him right away, except that it made him want to vomit. In another situation, he would certainly have castrated this guy, but there, the fear of the knife which he had not seen fall, immobilized him.
Finally, Dylan stepped back and whispered a few words to TK as the cops handcuffed him.
"You better not forget me this time, you'll always be mine Liam, always"
Then the cops pulled him away from the frozen rescuer and put him in one of the their cars. Carlos rushed to his lover, locking him in a bear hug.
"Never take so many risks again," he whispered in her ear, his voice thick with anger and pain.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry…" TK sobbed softly, only realizing everything that had just happened and that it was finally over.
"I love you TK, I don't want to lose you."
"I love you too."
The two men were separated by Tommy who wanted to check on his rescuer. After a quick examination, she declared that TK was fine, but that he was in shock and that she ordered him to go home immediately. Of course, Carlos immediately called his superior to be allowed to stay with his man, which he was granted since his shift was due to end less than an hour later.
TK had gone to reassure his father and the rest of the 126 while Carlos was on the phone, and Tommy took the opportunity to talk to the Latino in private as soon as he hung up.
"Keep an eye on him," she began whispering. "And expect him to crack."
The Latino looked at it perplexed one moment, then the scene of the kiss returned to him in memory. TK had experienced an aggression, he had not wanted this kiss and he had not defended himself certainly by fear. The word rape passed in the mind of the policeman, but he pushed it back. He would not be the one to put it under TK's nose. He would be there to support him if he ever felt that way, but he would not be the one to put it on the carpet. Carlos nodded, more ready than ever to take care of his man and hurried to join him to take him home.
