Berk

"This is a bad idea." Valka said as Hiccup's home came into view. He told her everything that happened while she was gone and he could tell she felt guilt for leaving him alone.

"Yeah, well the only thing I had on Berk was a nack of destroying the village. So I figure this was a good way of getting them to listen." he replied as they got closer to the island. He leaned towards Toothless. "Don't worry bud we're almost there." he whispered as they flew as fast as they could. He leaned back and turned to his mother. "What happened? When the dragons took you?"

"Cloudjumper took me to the Alpha's nest. There I learned the truth about the dragons. I wanted a future where you could live in peace with the dragons. I stayed away to try and make peace between dragons and Vikings. Drago halted my plans and I couldn't return. As time went on I feared that you would hate me." she answered and Hiccup wanted to say something but had no words. They flew the rest of the way in silence. When they landed, the Vikings begin to gather around.

"What's going on?" Hiccup asked as he jumped off of the saddle. Before he knew it, Gobber shoved Hiccup to a wooden pole and put his hook hand to the Rider's throat.

"Where's Astrid?" Gobber asked and Toothless growled. The Vikings raised their axes and swords while Valka placed herself between them and Toothless.

"I don't know. I was trying to find Drago and I was close." Hiccup answered concerned for Astrid.

"She went to you Edge several days ago and she hasn't returned." Spitelout added.

"No one is at the Edge. We were about to catch Drago, but he slipped through our fingers." Hiccup replied regretfully.

"So she stayed at the Edge waiting for you?" Fishlegs asked and Hiccup nodded. The Berkians lowered their weapons calming Toothless a little, but still kept his eyes on Gobber who didn't move.

"Explain the weapons?" he asked and Hiccup's eyes widen knowing his old mentor identified his work. "I know they're made by Hiccup. Tell me where he is." Gobber ordered and Valka placed her hand on his shoulder.

"Relax Gobber. He's alright." she promised. As Gobber turned his head, she took off her helmet and the gathered Vikings erupted in gasps and whispers after seeing their old Chieftess alive.

"Valka?" Gobber asked letting Hiccup go.

"Yes, but we don't have to talk. Drago has the King of Dragons. We need to ready our defenses." she replied and the Vikings nodded.

"I'll head to the Edge and get Astrid. Chieftess Valka, I assume you can make sure Spitelout is prepared." Hiccup said and she nodded. He climbed onto Toothless and they took off.

Dragon's Edge

Astrid was trapped in Death Song amber while Drago questioned her. She gave no answer as Stormfly stared down the Rider in coldness. As the man circled around Astrid, she wondered how long until Hiccup returned. His dragons would be no match for Drago's massive dragon. She needed to escape and warn Hiccup, but the Death Song amber was too strong. Drago raised his staff towards her face. "Why protect him? He left you here to die." he asked and Astrid gave no reply. His staff scratched her face leaving a good cut. "The soldiers I meet always talk but in defiance. Yet you refuse to talk. So what is the secret you refuse to tell me?" he asked glaring at her. She kept quiet as dragons roared in the distance. Drago turned to see more dragons flying towards the Edge. Astrid's eyes widen knowing that Hiccup returned. She saw empty saddles except for one Razorwhip. Despite Windshear's roughness, trying to get her rider off, Heather stubbornly stayed on. Drago chuckled seeing the Rider but Astrid searched the sky for a Night Fury. To her relief, there was no Night Fury. Hiccup must be somewhere else. Windshear landed on the dock and Heather jumped down drawing her double axe out. She charged but both Windshear and Stormfly stood in her way. Heather stood back not wanting to hurt the dragons.

"You okay Astrid?" Heather asked seeing Astrid trapped but before an answer could be given, Drago stood between the captured Viking and the dragons.

"Where is the Dragon Master? His Night Fury isn't here." he asked, but Heather tightened her grip on the axe. He lowered the hook end of his staff under Windshear. "Tell me or I will kill your beast, then your friends, and finish with your family while you watch." he threatened but didn't budge. Astrid could tell that she was fearing for her dragon, but couldn't risk the war. Drago smirked before puncturing a hole into Windshear's underbelly causing her to yelp. Heather dropped her axe and rushed to the dragon's side trying to treat the wound. Stormfly growled eyeing the Rider. "Where is he?" Drago asked once more and Heather turned her head to Astrid and both understood what was about to happen.

"He's on Berk." Heather answered, Drago waved his staff in the air, and the massive dragon lowered its tusk, letting the madman on. As they swam towards Berk, all the dragons, but Windshear followed. Astrid turned to face Heather wanting the truth.

In the Middle of the Seas

Hiccup was flying peacefully in the skies thinking about Astrid. Drago was on the war path and the Edge was a likely place of attack. He needed to warn Heather and his fleet. The Alpha was being used as a weapon of mass destruction and from what his mother told him, they need to free it. As he flew further East, he spotted a dark mass on the horizon. He grabbed a spyglass and looked to see hundreds of dragons flying in his direction. His heart sank as he looked to the sea to see a massive dark scale dragon swimming toward him. But anger fueled his heart as he spotted a man standing on the left tusk. Both Dragon and Rider turned to stay out of range of the Alpha's control and head back for Berk. Drago was on his way to Hiccup's village.

Dragon's Edge

"So Hiccup did all of this for Berk?" Astrid asked in disbelief as she helped Heather onto a cliff edge trying to regroup on the beach. Sure she knew he cared for the island, but she thought he abandoned Berk completely when he ran off. Now she was glad to be wrong.

"Yeah. Thanks to Hiccup we've been preparing to take on Drago." Heather answered with a chuckle at they climbed on the ice spikes. "Guess we weren't ready."

"He blind sighted you. No one could see it coming." Astrid remarked trying to comfort the Rider.

"Well we learned about it recently thanks to Valka." Heather replied surprising Astrid.

"Valka? I knew of a Valka Haddock. But she died years ago." Astrid remarked and Heather chuckled.

"Hiccup thought the same thing. Should have seen his face after seeing her." Heather added and Astrid wanted to learn more.

Berk

Valka looked at her son's designs in the old Forge wishing she could have seen these and helped him. Instead, she was gone for nearly twenty years. She felt like a horrible mother and wished she returned to Berk sooner. She wished she could have been here for Hiccup. After examining his invention models, Gobber entered the Forge and she turned to see his still stunned face. They both took a seat and were silent. It was clear neither knew what to say. All they could do is wonder. But Gobber was the first to break the silence.

"Why didn't you come back?" he asked and Valka sighed.

"I was afraid. I didn't want Hiccup to hate me. So I stayed away." she answered ashamed of what she did. "I was surprised to see him again riding dragons and leading a great force. He has grown to be much like his father."

"I haven't seen him for five years. Last I saw him he was just a fishbone with so much potential. Hard to hear that he is a leader." Gobber remarked and both made a soft chuckle. Their conversation was cut short when the villagers began to gather in the center. Both Vikings left the Forge and rushed to see Hiccup landing.

"What happened?" Valka asked as he jumped down from Toothless.

"Drago attacked the Edge. He's on his way here." Hiccup reported and the Vikings gasped.

"And your Dragons?" Spitelout asked and everyone wondered the same thing.

"Under the Alpha's control." Hiccup answered begrudgingly.

"So all we have is your weapons and your beast." Spitelout remarked as he walked around the two. "We've had a difficult battling the dozen of Dragons in raids now we are facing what hundreds?" he added before turning to the people. "We stand no chance against Drago. I hate the man, but if we challenge him, we will die." he said before turning to face Hiccup. "You can go along the Archepeligo raising an army of men and dragons, but you will always fail to the beasts. You have nothing to risk like us."

"Spitelout." Valka warned but the current Chief stopped her.

"You abandoned us for those beasts years ago and what did it get you? Nothing. When Hiccup left I became Chief and my priority is to Berk, not some boy's need of revenge." Spitelout remarked and Hiccup shook his head.

"So you are willing you let the man who killed your old Chief rule over you?" he asked earning sadness over the tribe.

"We can't get vengeance if we are dead." Spitelout replied. "You don't understand it. You're no Chief. You don't have anything to lose." he added and Hiccup took off his helmet revealing his face. The villagers erupt in whispers.

"I do have something to lose. My Tribe and my father's legacy." Hiccup said and Gobber walked forward.

"Hiccup?" Gobber asked and Hiccup gave a nervous smile.

"Hey Gobber." he answered and the blacksmith hugged the young man. "Gobber air."

"Sorry lad." Gobber said and the village was still whispering and gasping. Hiccup turned to Berk standing tall.

"I know you're all scared. But we have one thing he doesn't. We have dragons with loyalty." he pleaded. "We need to distract the Alpha and break the control then Drago has nothing left. We'll win. But I'll need some Dragon Rider volunteers." Hiccup added and for a few moments the crowd was silent, but Fishlegs stepped forward followed by much of Berk. Even Snotlout stepped forward followed by Spitelout. "Okay then. Gobber mom get the defenses ready. Fishlegs, Twins follow me to the dragons."

The air was tense and cold. Hiccup and the Riders waited in the trees over a cliff watching as the dark cloud of dragons came closer. They had cloths covering the senses of the dragons and while Hiccup and Toothless were comfortable with this, the other Riders were clearly not. He turned to see the Zippleback turning in circles while the Gronckle was shaking despite Fishlegs petting its side. Hiccup turned back waiting for the signal. He was nervous. He's been waiting for this day since he learned that Drago killed his father. When the Alpha walked on the edge of Berk towering above the buildings, he waited for the signal. A flash of two lights signaled the launchers. Soon barrels of flaming Nightmare Gel soured in the air striking the Alpha forcing it back and knocking Drago to the ground. The flashing lights signaled Hiccup and the Riders.

"Move!" he yelled before jumping off the cliff, gliding down with the other two behind. Barrels and Boulders were launched at the Alpha proving a distraction for Hiccup. He looked back to see the Riders struggling with the dragon's senses blinded. He and Toothless were gaining distance between them and the Riders while closing it on Drago. When they landed, Hiccup jumped off igniting Inferno.

"Dragon Master." Drago greeted as the Alpha fired icy blasts blindly at Berk.

"End this madness before I end you." Hiccup said coldly willing to give his enemy mercy, but if it is refused, then his father will be avenged. Drago yelled, waving his staff and Hiccup charged sending the flaming blade into Drago's side. The murderer looked at the Viking heir before dropping the staff and falling to the ground lifeless. Before he could process what happened, he heard someone yelling and looked up to see the Alpha about to fire an ice blast. He tried running but was too late. He felt the cold air consume him, but he looked up to see Toothless saving him. After a few cold moments, the Night Fury's spine glowed blue and Hiccup covered his head as a plasma blast destroyed their icy tomb. Toothless looked back at Hiccup before climbing on an ice spike firing plasma blast after blast at the Alpha. Valka hugged Hiccup and he hugged her back. "They turned to see the Alpha losing control of the dragons. They began to fly behind Toothless. When the plasma blasts became silent, the flock of dragons fired upon the Bewilderbeast. When a tusk dropped on the ground the fire ceased and the massive dragon fled. Hiccup looked to see his best friend, the King of Dragons. The Night Fury walked to his side and the Rider scratched his head. They won the battle and gained justice. Before he could do anything else, Hiccup felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned to see Gothi want him to kneel. He took a deep breath before kneeling in front of her. She used ashes and gave him the make of a Chief on his forehead. She bowed and he stood up.

"The Chief!" Spitelout yelled and Berk cheered. Hiccup gave polite bows to his tribe. He was the new Chief and hope he made his father proud.

Dragon's Edge

Astrid has been waiting for some time now and learned of many surprises. Hiccup was the Dragon Master, Chieftess Valka was alive, and all she could do is wait hoping Hiccup somehow defeated Drago and his Alpha. She doubted anyone could beat that thing. it was bigger than the village and anything the Vikings of Berk has ever faced. Sure Hiccup fought the Red Death but he nearly died then and he didn't have to fight a dragon army. As she and Heather ate breakfast, the Riders pointed to the sky at a small mass on the horizon. Heather grabbed her spyglass and smiled.

"It's Hiccup!" she yelled and Astrid smiled knowing that he somehow won. Minutes later Dragon and Riders reunited together. She heard a familiar screech and turned to see Stormfly landing. She charged into Astrid's arms and the Viking's heart warmed inside, happy to see the Deadly Nadder again. She scratched the Nadder's head smiling.

"So I hear you flew all the way to Berk for me." a familiar voice said and she turned to see the Dragon Rider unmasked.

"You got a lot of explaining Hiccup Haddock." Astrid said and he chuckled.

"Let me guess Heather told you the truth?" Hiccup asked and she lightly punched his shoulder.

"No. I found your drawings and recognized the style was the same as yours from Berk." she answered and he smiled.

"Yeah. I should have hidden them better." Hiccup joked and Astrid felt relief seeing her old friend back.

"Did you beat Drago?" she asked and he nodded before turning to his forces.

"Drago Bludvist is gone. His Alpha has been defeated. The war is over. You can go home and live in peace with your dragons." Hiccup said and the gathered army cheered. Astrid has never seen him like this. A leader and a man who can change the world.

Berk - Sixteen Years Later

Hiccup woke up to the sound of dragons jumping on the roof of his home. He looked over to see his beautiful wife sleeping soundly. It has been thirteen years since he married Astrid and those years were the best of his life. He slid his hand across her blonde hair admiring her beauty. The dragons went silent indicating that Zephyr and Nuffink were riding on their dragons. He felt a sense of dread knowing the trouble he got caught in as a kid and hope they'll be safe. Being a father was the greatest blessing he could ever have asked for. But the silence was interrupted by another dragon bouncing on the roof. Astrid moaned as dust fell down.

"Toothless or the kids?" Astrid asked groggily and he chuckled.

"The kids already took off." he answered before kissing her head.

"Better get that dragon to be silent." she warned and Hiccup climbed out of the bed. When he got dressed, he walked outside onto the fresh snow and Toothless jumped down waiting for their morning flight. Hiccup climbed onto the saddle and they launched into the air. They flew a quick lap of Berk and passed by the statues of past Chiefs. He saw his father's statue and saw a great man. Greater than life and hope that Stoick the Vast would be proud of Hiccup the Dragon Rider. When two dragons buzzed past he saw Zephyr on her Razorwhip, Fay while her brother on his Monstrous Nightmare, Dash. Hiccup and Toothless raced to their side and the Chief smiled at his children. He might not have had his father or know how he'll react to dragons, but Hiccup has the life he wants.
