Word Girl's Slumber
Part Three
She opened her eyes to see her own bedroom…
Becky: Uh? I'm back home? How did I…? Hm, I must have blacked out or something… But I how can I be home, if Mom and Dad are gone…
Sally: (In a sing-song tone, opening the door) Becky! Are you up?
Becky: Mom! What are you doing here?! You're supposed to be on vacation!
Sally: Vacation? Now why would I want to do that? When I can be at home taking care of my two favorite kids! And it does make my heart pounce knowing you still like to call me Mom…
Becky: Why wouldn't I?
Sally: Because you have your real parents on Lexicon, who love and cherish you each day. Don't you remember? You made an agreement with them that you spend the school year here, and you go back to them in the summer, which will be pretty soon now…
Becky: Wait… You know about my Lexicon heritage?! And I… know my birth parents?
Sally: Uh, I believe so…
Becky: Does that mean you know I'm Word Girl?!
Sally: Who's Word Girl?
Becky: (Underneath her breath) Oh no, not again… (Clears throat) Um, you know, Word Girl, the superhero, always have to save the day, from villains?!
Sally: (Giggles) Oh dear, there are no villains here; Fair City is completely safe from harm. But I never once recall you had to going saving the day, but you do have the most amazing powers here on Earth… Everyone respects that since you first arrived from space…
Becky was getting really confused now. There was no Word Girl but she still had her powers, then just for her to be going between Earth and Lexicon was beyond strange, and apparently having to know her real parents is even stranger! She had to find out what was going on…
Becky: Say, Mom, just for laughs, tell me the story again, I so love hearing it from you.
Sally: With pleasure, it was one of those days your adopted father and I were minding our business, then suddenly what should appear but a spaceship coming towards us! We ran back into the house, and then it crash lands in our backyard! We looked to see a monkey coming out carrying a one-year-old, we knew then we should help raise this baby. So, we named you Becky and him, Mister Cuddle-Face, but when you grew, you insisted Captain Huggy-Face.
Becky: And where is Huggy now?
Sally: You know, on Lexicon with your folks piloting in the space force. So, as you did grow your powers began to show and we had to share it with the whole city! You became very popular, and are loved by all. Your fans are outside as usual waiting every morning.
She went to the window pulling up the blinds, and sees a giant crowd, then she heard Scoops' voice saying.
Scoops: There she is! (The camera flashes on her and she quickly pulls down the blinds)
Becky: This can't be happening… I must be dreaming! (Pinches herself, but surprisingly she feels it and she feels like she was wide awake!) How…? (As she remembers the last thing happening was the dummy in the park, blowing something at her then suddenly everything went black, thus waking up here…) Um, I'm going to go for a walk quick.
Sally: If you say so, are you alright?
Becky: Fine! Everything's just fine!
She ran down the stairs, and then snuck out the back as she remembers the people in the front waiting for her. She finally made into the middle of town, nothing seem to change except for a few new buildings as she read the signs.
Becky: Butcher's Butcher Shop… Chuck's Deli… Dave and Beatrice's Copy Shop… Granny's Elderly Goods… Hal's Supply Depot… Glad to see that one didn't change, much… (Seeing how it looks an actual hardware shop, she kept going and realized something) So… If every one of the villains has a store… I'm bound to run into a cheese store run by Doctor Two-Brains. (But saw nothing like that) Weird… (Suddenly she bumps into someone)
Violet: I'm sorry! I didn't- (Gasps) Becky Botsford! I am so so sorry! Had I known it was you!
Becky: Violet? Why are you acting that way? I'm just your friend.
Violet: But we're not friends, you're too famous to be around me.
Becky: Oh… That's sad, I can't believe that! You're an amazing person to be around.
Victoria: (In a chirpy tone) Violet! There you are! And- Becky Botsford! What an honor it is to meet you face to face!
Becky: Victoria? Why are you hanging out with Violet?
Victoria: We're friends of course! Best friends even!
Violet: Where's Eileen?
Victoria: She'll be here, then she can meet Becky Botsford! She's a big fan of yours, so am I.
Becky: Eileen? The Birthday Girl?
Victoria: Why would she be called that? It's not like she celebrates her birthday every day.
Becky: Whoa… this is getting really weird… So, um what do you know about Tobey McCallister?
Violet: Tobey? We haven't seen him in years.
Victoria: He moved away with his mom and dad to somewhere, never heard from him again.
Becky: He… moved away…? Wow… that's actually kind-of upsetting…
Victoria: I would think with you, that you never knew him.
Becky: Listen, I have to get going-
Eileen: (Gasps) Is that the Becky Botsford?!
Becky: Uh, hello Eileen.
Eileen: She knows my name! (Nearly faints and Victoria catches her)
Becky: Right… it was great seeing all of you, but I have to get going. (Runs with all her might until she can far away from them, then stumbles on to Doc's old office building) I wonder… (She climbs up the steps and opens the door) Doc? (Seeing someone crouch over by a lab table, then he lifted his head up revealing to be Doctor Steven Boxlightner, she gawked a little) Doc... You're you!
Steven: (Gasps) Becky Botsford? What do I own the honor of this visit?
Becky: I don't suppose you'll recall we were old friends?
Steven: I'm afraid not, I know about you but I know nothing about you. You know?
Becky: Oh… I thought you would say that… Well, I need your help, this isn't my home.
Steven: Of course not, your home is Lexicon isn't it?
Becky: Well yes, but I mean I don't belong here, I was… (Tells the story then finishes it) Now, I apparently don't have any my friends, my villains are good civilians, my secret identity is more famous because my superhero self doesn't exist! I even have my birth parents! This is a dream! It has to be!
Steven: It almost sounds like you are in a dream but you can't wake up from it.
Becky: You think so? That would explain a lot, but why can't I wake up? Everything feels so real!
Steven: I can't say.
Becky: You got to send me back to my own world!
Steven: I would… but I don't know how to do that. I would just keeping going until the dream wears off, you know, just play along with it.
Becky: Just play along?
Steven: That would be the best way.
Becky: Okay… I'll try it. Thanks again, Doc.
Steven: Happy to help.
She goes and once she gets outside.
Becky: How could have this happen?! Why did it happen? (Then suddenly she remembers her wish) My wish… I wished what it would be like if l lived a life involving Lexicon and Earth! My villains would live normal lives! This is the second time my wish comes true! Typical and I can't even get a pony… So Doc's himself again, Victoria's nice and Eileen has one birthday. Everyone else owns a store and Tobey… (She gave a pause and showed a glum face) is gone… but Victoria said he was with his mom and dad… wherever he is I hope he isn't causing trouble…
TJ: Becky! There you are!
Becky: TJ?
TJ: You got to get home!
Becky: Is it time for lunch?
TJ: I wouldn't know, is that what you do on Lexicon when your parents pick you up?
Becky: My parents? They're here?!
TJ: Yeah, so you better get going.
They get back to the house where her spaceship hideout was in front of the yard. The door open and out came…
Becky: Huggy! (She hugs him)
Then out came two people of whom she resembles with.
Vern: Ready to go, Alterca?
Becky: Alterca? Oh, yes, I am.
Dia: Are you alright honey?
Becky: I'm fine, I'm just… (In near tears) so happy to see you.
Dia: We're happy too… (They embrace)
Vern: Let's hit the road, we have a long way to go.
Becky looked back to her adopted family, and gave a small wave goodbye, they did the same as she got in the ship, and the door closed. The ship took off and headed into space…
Word Girl still lay on the bed as Professor Tubing placed heart monitors on her chest. The monitor gave a steady beat, Huggy watched the pulse moving normally but as it was late at night he started dozing off.
Tubing: You should get some rest.
Huggy: ("No, I can't, not now" and moves to the bed holding her hand to make his point)
Tubing: You had a busy day today, and if you ever had the chance to help with her progress then you need to be wide awake. I know she would want that…
Huggy gave solemn nod, he was right. She would want him to rest up to figure out what was going on.
Tubing: Go now, I'll watch over her. Come back tomorrow morning, by then I should have results. (Huggy nodded and left with a heavy heart) Hopefully…
The ship landed into the center of Lexicon's red star. Thus landing into a spaceport, from there a group of people were waiting outside. Becky followed her parents, how awkward it felt be standing by parents you hardly ever knew in the first place. And Huggy and her had absolutely nothing to talk about; it was like they weren't really friends and that he acted like a personal body guard. Then a man about her folks' age greeted them.
Thesis: Vern, Dia, welcome back.
Vern: Oh Thesis, we've only been gone for two hours; it's Alterca that deserves the homecoming.
Thesis: Of course, you know I was kidding, well Alterca, and how was Earth as usual?
Becky: Fine. It's… (Carefully choosing her words in front of her birth parents) always a pleasure seeing the folks that raised me for a short time. But I'm just as happy returning home…
Thesis: Good to hear of it, because Syntax missed you.
Becky: Syntax?
Thesis: Yes, he's been waiting for you to return at last.
Becky: Ah, yes… and I've… missed him as well…
Dia: You can see him at dinner tonight, for now let's get you home.
Becky suddenly got nervous, she had no idea of how she was going to act to this guy she never met in her life. Maybe playing along was a bad idea…
Becky: (Thinking) Please, I want to wake up… now!
It was a quarter past seven, as Huggy walked down the hall he opened her hospital room door only to see a surprise visitor sitting next to her bed.
Doc: Oh, it's you… I was hoping you were Tubing with results…
Huggy shook his head then pointed to him.
Doc: What am I doing here?
Huggy nodded.
Doc: I was just checking to see she awaked yet. No luck… (Gives a slight chuckle) You know… I never wanted to get rid of her or you… it was really a spur of the moment.
Huggy shrugged.
Tubing: (Coming in) You're both here, good. Because I found something very interesting…

AN: Okay, one, sorry for the delay, I had a busy time with school and finishing up the Christmas special. Two, we will see Becky's side of the deep sleep as she is stuck in a dreamland she cannot escape from. And three, yes sorry for another cliffhanger, and nope it wasn't on accident, it was on purpose! Ha-ha. Hey, it's supposed to be a dramatic story, so yeah! Now that I'm officially on break, I will see how far I can get with this story, I'm hoping I can at least give three more chapters before I return to school, and that counts for my other fanfics. As long as I got the time, I will try my best to keeping writing. Until then.
