Word Girl's Slumber

Part Four

Tubing leads them to the lab, where he takes out a blood sample. He then takes a piece of the blood and puts it under the microscope.

Tubing: Take a look.

Doc looks into the microscope; there he saw red blood cells being overpowered by shiny white cells.

Doc: What the…?

Tubing: Strange isn't it? I've comb over every single medical book, and there is no such cells as those.

Doc: Think they're the reason that she is in the state that she is?

Tubing: Yes, I'm pretty sure.

Doc: I see it; the white cells are slowing down the blood cells, thus slowing the blood stream to slow down the body, to making Word Girl sleep for a long period of time. It makes sense! The question is now, how did those cells get into her in the first place?

Huggy jumps up and down, then he starts reenacting the time they were in the park and found the dummy, then the dummy blew something at Word Girl, making her go to sleep. Unfortunately they didn't catch any sense of his act.

Doc: Well I'm glad he knows the answer, I just can't understand monkey.

Huggy did a face palm.

Tubing: The next question is figuring out how to get those cells out of her blood stream. I'm working on studying them to fix a cure to disarm them.

Doc: Anything I should do?

Tubing: Perhaps you and Captain Huggy-Face should go to the place where she first fell and investigate any clues that you can find.

Doc: Lead the way, fuzzy face.

They headed down the hallway, and walked past Tobey that was holding a single rose.

Tobey: Hey, where are you two going?

Doc: Looking for clues, we finally got a lead to how we can wake her up.

Tobey: Really?!

Doc: Come along if you want, I'll explain on the way.

Tobey: Just one second. (He heads straight into her room and places the rose in a vase, then looks her over again) We'll make it, I know we can… (He rushes out of the room catching up to the two. Then moments later after making it to the scene of the crime) So… these white cells are slowing down her blood stream…

Doc: Thus slowing down her body to make her tired and sleep for a long time.

Tobey: You know what, not cool! This is something so low down and sneaky that I can't think of anyone cruel enough to do it!

Doc: Exactly, none of us would go as far as to really hurt Word Girl, expose her identity sure, but never something like this.

Tobey: Butcher and Chuck are like teddy bears, Big wants a profit, Granny just wants to do her own thing, and you want cheese, everyone else just wants to get rich.

Doc: And you just want Word Girl…

Tobey: No! I just want to prove that I'm Word Girl's number one enemy! Do you know how long I've trying to win for your spot!

Doc: Okay, one, you'll never take my spot and two, you're lying. I know all too well you care about her, so there!

They started bickering some more, until Huggy screeched at them, making them snap out of it.

Tobey: The monkey's right, neither of us will be number one foe to Word Girl if she doesn't wake up.

Huggy points out the bush and they find there's nothing there… Huggy jumps in panic.

Doc: Whoa, easy there chimp-o.

Tobey: From what it seems the thing that was here isn't here.

Doc: Yeah, I think we got that.

Chuck was walking by then sees them.

Chuck: What's wrong with Mister Fuzzy Cheeks?

Doc: Supposedly that thing that happen to Word Girl isn't here anymore.

Chuck: Oh yeah… Poor kid, I hope she wakes up soon.

Tobey: I would half expect you to rob a bank at this moment.

Chuck: Sure I would, but it's not fair if she's not around to stop me.

Doc: Well as long as you're here, help us look around to find anything unusual.

Chuck: Okay… but what good would that do?

Tobey: To help cure Word Girl, if we find the thing that caused to put her in that deep sleep, we can wake her up!

Chuck: Alright! Bank robbing here I come!

Doc: Eh, it's a start.

Tobey: We are only waking her for our own selfish purposes… (Slightly turns his head and blushes)

Doc: Right, it's not like I'm helping an old friend out… (But feels unsure about that)

Tobey: Hey… (He finds something sparkling on the ground) What's this? (Touches the powder)

Huggy squeaks in excitement and points at it.

Doc: Wait… so this is what it's in Word Girl's body…?

Huggy nods his head repeatedly.

Chuck: Um guys, does it seem that white sparkly stuff is leading somewhere?

Tobey: By Jove, he's right; it goes right onto Main Street.

Huggy takes out the Word Girl magnifying glass and starts following the trail. The three villains just follow right behind him…

Becky paced upstairs in her Lexicon home and bedroom. It was a huge place and so was the room, it had a canopy bed, a huge dollhouse, a big toy chest, and instead of a walk in closet there was a walk in library! Becky knew it was almost time for dinner and that she would soon meet this so called friend of hers on Lexicon.

Becky: (Saying out loud) I wouldn't know anything about him… and yet he'll know everything about me. (She does a shudder) Just… try… You keep forgetting this is all a dream! Nothing is real here! (She looks out her window and sees a clear view of Lexicon's city sights) No matter how much of this feels real…

A knock came and her birth mother walked in.

Dia: Alterca? Are you ready?

Becky: Oh yes! I'm ready… Mom?

Dia: Yes?

Becky: Um… nothing. It was nothing.

Dia: Are you sure you're all right sweetie? You've been acting strange since we came home.

Becky: Just… tired from traveling I guess.

Dia: If you feel you can't handle going back and fore anymore from Earth to Lexicon, just let us know.

Becky: Oh no, it's certainly not that. I need Earth.

A doorbell rang downstairs.

Dia: Oh, there's our guests, come, let us go greet them. (Holds out her hand)

Becky slowly went towards it then she took it. They went down the stairs then sees Thesis and a woman there, Becky figured that was his wife, then came in their son, Syntax. She had to admit, he was pretty cute for their age.

Vern: Ah, there you two are, Alterca, you remember Syntax.

Becky: Uh yes… It's great to see you again…

Syntax: And I'm please to see you back home… (He takes her hand and kisses it, Becky couldn't help but blush)

Becky: (Thinking) Wow… I wish I knew anything about him now… Whoa! Wait a minute girl! He's not really there anyway! Oh but… who knows how long I'll be here… and Doc did suggest I'd play along… so I could have some enjoyment in all this… It is still my own dream and fantasies… Why not! (Saying to him) How sweet of you…

Syntax: May I escort you to the dining room?

Becky: You may.

They started walking in. Unaware of their parents' whispering behind their backs.

Dia: How long before we should break the news?

Thesis: Until my son makes the official engagement of course.

Vern: Which I have a feeling will be anytime now.

Orala: Of course, since we've been planning this match since they were born.

Thesis: Then there was that terrible scare when Alterca was nearly lost.

Dia: I'm so happy we got her back before she grew too much.

Vern: Unfortunely, she felt connected to Earth and owned to her foster parents to visit them.

Dia: I don't blame her; they are such lovely folk but not exactly up there to tutor Alterca's vocabulary.

Vern: Luckily, our genetics came through for her to be smarter than those around her.

Thesis: I'm sure once Syntax makes the proposal; she'll want to stay on Lexicon for good so she can feel ready to be married in a few years. As you know, it is tradition for a young man and woman to wed at the proper age of fourteen.

Dia: That's how we were married.

Vern: And that's how our daughter will too…

Thesis: Well, we can discuss business later, let's eat first!

They also went in the dining room.

Huggy was hot on the trail and ahead too as the three villains behind him couldn't keep up.

Chuck: Slow down, will you!

Tobey: Boy genius getting left behind you know!

Doc: We don't have primate reflexes like you!

Huggy gave a squeaky giggle and decided to slow down.

The trio panted as they caught up.

Ms. Question: (Flies in on her question mark) What are you doing?

Doc: If you must know, we're on a mission.

Ms. Question: What kind of mission?

Tobey: A top secret mission!

Chuck: But I thought we were just following that trail of dust, so we can wake up Word Girl.

Ms. Question: Wake up Word Girl?

Doc: I already told you yesterday, Word Girl is in the hospital in a coma, and we didn't what was causing it so we agreed to stop crimes for awhile until she woke up.

Ms. Question: How could I not remember? What should I do? Get more support?

Tobey: Ah… This is supposed to be a subtle job. I don't think we need more people to be on this.

Chuck: Well, we could use the help if this ended up to a dead end.

Doc: He does actually have a point. So, Question round up the villains that is willing to help out. Tell them in not so many questions, that they get extra reward to waking her up. Hey! Tell them, that she would own it to us!

Ms. Question: Is that all?

Doc: Yes, it is.

Ms. Question: (Starts to go) Where should I start? (Then flies off)

Tobey: Hmm… it's true, she would own it to us… (Then daydreams of her and him on various romantic moments, sharing a chocolate milkshake, holding hands in the park, sharing a funny book in the library, dancing the tango… wait, where was he going with this? He says under his breath) Forget it… there's no way you'd make her do that last one…

Chuck: Did you say something?

Tobey: What? Oh, nothing, let's keep going.

Becky and Syntax were out on the patio to the dining room, talking.

Syntax: Wonderful meal, wouldn't you say?

Becky: Very… (Giving him a loving glance) But I enjoyed your company at the dinner table.

Syntax: Well, so did I. Um, Alterca? Since we've been friends for such a long time now, I feel as though I would like to move past that stage…

Becky: Are you… asking me on a date?

Syntax: In a word, yes.

Becky: Okay… Where would you like to go?

Syntax: Anywhere you like to go.

Becky: Alright… Pick me up tomorrow at ten and we can stroll around town.

Syntax: Perfect! Until then… (Kisses her hand again, making her blush again)

Orala: Another excellent dinner, my dear.

Dia: Thank you.

Vern: See you again soon.

Thesis: Indeed, by then we can make the arrangements… (They shake hands)

Syntax: See you tomorrow.

Becky: See you.

They left and Dia closed the door.

Dia: So, did you and Syntax have a good time?

Becky: The best! We even have a date! My first date! (Thinking) Even it is only a dream…

Dia: That's… fantastic!

Vern: (Whispers to his wife) About time… It is wonderful news my girl! Syntax is a gentleman, so you have my consent to date him as long as you want.

Becky: (Thinking) Now I know I'm dreaming… (Saying) Well, I guess I better get to bed, big day tomorrow.

Dia: You do that sweetie.

Becky: Good night.

Both: Good night.

Once she was in her room, they gave each other smiles.

Dia: Oh Vern, I'm so happy.

Vern: And you should be, our little girl is getting married.

Dia: My only regret is we didn't get to spend more time with her…

Vern: Now dear… yes, I too wish we had her when we did…

Dia: If only I hadn't looked away…

Vern: It wasn't your fault… All that matters is she is home and she is going to have a bright future before her…

Dia: Yes…

Becky changed in a nightgown and lay in the bed.

Becky: Oh man… How are you supposed to sleep in a dream? Do I just close my eyes…? Then open them to see… (Opens them and the next thing you know, its morning!) Morning…? What 'a know…? It worked!

End of Part Four…

AN: It is weird, but since she's already asleep there's no point to falling asleep in the dream. I was just about to finish with this until I suddenly got sick; I wasn't up to writing anything. Until next time.
