"Let's go, Kiddo." Cristina, Callie's best friend, opened the car door and hopped out, waiting for me. I was squished between her and Aria in the back seat of Callie's car. Callie's mom was up front. Obviously Callie was driving.
We were wedding dress shopping. Apparently, someone else was coming too. Addison. Callie told me she had to fly in, so she would be a little late.
"Cristina. She's 15." Callie said.
"Let's go, Mini Adult." Cristina motioned for me to get out of the car.
When I got out, Callie's eyes met mine.
"Don't mind her." Callie told me.
"I think she's funny." I shrugged.
"This, this is my new best friend," Cristina stepped closer to me, swinging an arm over my shoulder.
"Calliope, we can't be late!" Callie's Mom reminded.
"Ok, ok. Let's go." We all walked toward the door, as we walked in, Callie hung back and held her phone out to me, "Addi should be getting off her plane soon. If she texts me, let me know?"
"Got it," I nodded, taking her phone.
"Thanks Liv." She smiled at me.
"Let's get this party started!" Aria cheered as Callie headed toward the dressing rooms, roughly twenty minutes later.
"Whoop!" Callie cheered, then she disappeared.
"15. What grade does that put you in?" Cristina looked at me.
"I'll be a sophomore in the fall."
"Cool. What are you thinking of for college?"
"I have no clue." I said truthfully.
"Oh. Interesting."
"Cristina, don't drill the poor girl." Aria said. "Her next lines are going to be trying to convince you to be a surgeon." Aria laughed.
"Oh, sorry, that's totally not my thing. Blood makes me squeamish." I told Cristina.
"Weird." She stated simply, nodding her head.
Then, a phone vibrated in the pocket of my pants. Either mine or Callie's.
I checked. Callie's.
"Addison texted Callie and said she is 20 minutes away from here." I informed after reading the message. Though, Callie wasn't there to hear. I figured everyone would want to know.
"That's great! She'll get to see most of the dresses!" Callie's mom clasped her hands together.
When Callie came out in the first dress, her mom immediately went over to her crying and saying how beautiful she looked.
I couldn't help but wonder what my mom's Mom was like. I felt bad Mom didn't get that same experience.
Mom didn't talk about her parents much, though. I didn't know too much. I just knew they didn't speak. At all. That Mom's parents kicked her out.
It also brought on those mushy feelings of how- if I ever were to get married(big if)- Mom would be exactly like that. All proud and happy and crying.
"Oh Calliope. You are perfect!" Callie's mom cried.
Callie laughed, "Thank you Mama." She looked at herself in the mirror.
"Callie." I said.
She glanced at me.
"Addison texted you and said she is 20 minutes away. Now she's probably closer, though."
"Oh great! Thanks Liv!"
I nodded, watching as she looked back in the mirror.
"It's cute, Cal!" Aria said.
"I don't love it on me." Callie said with a shrug. "I like how the back dips low, though." She looked at the woman who was helping her, who nodded. "I think it's a little too flowy, and I don't like the train at all."
After some conversation, she went back to try on another dress. Hopefully one she liked better.
While she was changing, a very tall red head walked in, dressed overly fancy. Sunglasses on her head.
"Addison!" Callie's mom was the first to hop up.
"Addi!" Aria followed.
They both eagerly greeted the woman. For some reason I was surprised. I didn't think she would look like that. I don't know what I expected.
She's very pretty, though.
Callie came out, new dress on. "Addi!" She squealed.
"Oh Cal! Look at you!" They hugged. "Absolutely stunning!" Addison said as they pulled away.
"Thank you!" Callie turned to me, motioning for me to come to her. So, I did. "Liv, this is one of my best friends, Addison! Addison, this is Liv, my fiancés daughter- my almost step-daughter" Callie smiled at me, her hands on my shoulders. Proudly introducing me.
"It's nice to meet you!" I smiled at her.
She reached forward and hugged me. "What a pretty girl! I'm Addison, but you can call me Addi."
I smiled more at the compliment. "I'm Olivia. I go by Liv."
"Nickname twins." Addi laughed, and so did I.
Then, I turned to Callie. "I like that dress." I told her.
"Oh! I totally forgot about the dress!" She laughed, letting go of me. "I'm sorry." She said to the woman that was helping her.
Addi and I stepped away, and I heard Addi and Cristina exchange what's up?'s.
"I like this a lot better." Callie said as she looked in the mirror.
Cristina tapped my shoulder, and I turned to look at her. "You gotta go through this process with your Mom and Cal?" She nodded toward Callie, 'this process' meaning the whole dress thing.
I laughed, "Yeah. My mom already got her dress, though."
She nodded, an amused look on her face.
I couldn't quite figure Cristina out. I assumed a lot of what she said and did was a joke, though. As, it would be odd if it wasn't. But it was really hard to tell if she was serious or not. I didn't know her well enough.
The dress try ons continued, Callie's mom was definitely the most into it.
Like I said, reminds me of how I assumed Mom would be if I ever was getting a wedding outfit.
Similar to Mom, Callie tried on dress after dress with little tweaks she didn't love about them.
"I feel like this doesn't give beach wedding." Callie said as she stood in front of us. This particular dress was tight until the knees, and had a lot going on pattern/texture wise. Don't get me wrong, she totally pulled it off. Though, Callie was really pretty. I was sure she could pull anything off.
"No, not at all." Addi shook her head.
"But, you don't have to base your dress off the beach vibe." Aria added.
"It would look a little out of place." Callie countered.
"I think something more sleek would give the vibe you're looking for." Addi told Callie.
"Yeah, I think so too." Callie agreed.
The next dress she came out in totally gave off the beach vibe.
It was sleek, like Addi said. A shiny, pearl-like white. It had one shoulder bare, and the other covered by what would be a thick strap if it wasn't for the oval shaped cutout that took over the whole thing. It had a straight neckline, and remained tight until right above the knees.
The back was the best part- low cut, like Callie had liked. But, at the middle, the two sides of the dress were connected by two pearl strands that crossed over each other to make an X, which lined up perfectly just below Callie's tattoo.
"This dress was made for you." Aria said quickly.
"I really love this one!" I told Callie, wanting to get my opinion in there.
Everyone seemed to agree. Callie looked stunning.
I couldn't get over how perfect the back was.
Callie nodded her head, "This is the one."
