I feel like this summer has flashed before my eyes.
It's almost the end of July. Which means August. Which means the wedding.
Because they are getting married so soon, there has been a lot they need to get done. Even movies and TV shows don't speak to all the little things that go into weddings- I'm pretty surprised.
Today, though, was going to be a break from all of that.
Mom, Callie and I are going out for lunch.
So far, no word from Mom on the whole me not sure who I like thing. I figured with Callie around she wouldn't bring it up, so I was safe for now. Maybe she wasn't planning on bringing it up though. Maybe she was waiting for me to talk to her. That would be good. That was exactly what I wanted.
I just don't think I'm sure enough of what I'm feeling. I don't want anyone to know until I know.
When we got to the restaurant, I looked around as Mom and Callie got us a table. The seating was outside, and you could see the lake from where I was standing.
It was really, really pretty.
We sat down- me across from Mom and Callie, who were next to each other.
"It's nice to get out and not have to worry about wedding planning." Mom said as she opened a menu.
"Totally." Callie agreed. "It's stressful sometimes, even though I can't wait for wedding day."
"Oh yeah." Mom nodded.
"I'm excited to go to California!" I had been saying that since the second I found out that was where the bachelorette trip was.
Weird that I am going on that trip, maybe?
I offered to see if I could stay with one of my friends, but Mom and Callie both insisted that I come. They said that on night they were planning to go out, I could hang back and relax, but that besides that they would be on the beach.
Technically I was a part of the wedding party, so they said I had to come.
I was not going to say no to that. Besides their night out, it would be two days just on the beach. Who doesn't love the beach?
Mom laughed, "Me too! It's sooo soon."
"3 days!" I said.
"Oh wow. Yeah. I need to pack." Callie said.
"Me too."
"I haven't packed either." I added on, giggling.
I was crazy excited but also crazy busy. I hadn't found the time yet. I would, though.
We were going to California of all places because we would be able to meet Addison halfway. Everyone felt bad that she would have to fly up here- so, she would be able to drive for the bachelorette trip, instead. Convenient.
"What are you guys gonna eat?" Mom asked after a few moments.
"I kind of want this four cheese pasta" I said, pointing at the menu. It sounded amazing.
"That looks really good." Callie said, and I nodded. "I might get this spicy grilled chicken sandwich."
"Yum! I'm thinking a salad." Mom trailed her finger down the menu. "They all sound really good."
"They do." Callie agreed.
Mom smiled, still scanning the menu.
We ordered our drinks, but not our food- Mom still wasn't sure.
It wasn't like we were in any rush, though.
"Okay. Olive, pick a number, one through three." Mom said suddenly.
"What?"
"Just pick!"
Callie laughed.
"Two?" I said, not sure what was going on.
"Okay. Cool."
"I'm lost."
"I had three options of what I wanted. You picked the second one."
"Did you want the second one?"
Mom nodded, "Good choice."
I shook my head, laughing. Mom was so weird.
When the waiter came with our drinks, we also ordered our food.
"Are you guys excited for the honeymoon?" I asked.
The day after the wedding, Mom and Callie are going on their honeymoon- they're going to the Bahamas. So cool.
I honestly was probably just as excited for them as they were themselves.
As for me, since we will already be up at Teddy's parents house, Teddy said that her Isa and I should just stay there and have our own little vacation- April might stay too. I can't wait.
"Totally. It's gonna be amazing!" Callie nodded quickly, stirring the straw in her drink.
"Ah the beach. I'm crazy excited." Mom agreed. "What about you? Excited for your staycation?"
I giggled, "It'll be fun. Isa is pumped."
"Good, I'm glad you'll be having fun." Mom said.
I knew she was anxious about leaving me.
Not only was it just obvious, but I heard her talking to Callie about it a few times.
It would be the first time we were away from each other for anything more than a night. Not even just away, but she would be in a whole other country.
It was understandable why she felt worried. But, I'm 15. And it's not like she's abandoning me. It's her honeymoon. She deserves some time away.
"I totally will. And so will you." I told her. I hoped she didn't ruin it for herself by being nervous. I was sure she wouldn't. She would be preoccupied.
"We will!" Callie jumped in, grabbing Mom's hand and holding it. "But, we'll miss you loads!"
"I know, I know. I'll miss you guys too." I giggled.
Callie smiled, looking between Mom and I. "We'll send you tons of pictures. And maybe around Christmas all three of us can go to an island."
Clearly this was something Mom and Callie had talked about, because Mom smiled and shook her head in amusement.
"Wait really?!"
"Hopefully. Sorry, was that supposed to be a surprise?" Callie looked at Mom.
"Nope, you're good." Mom laughed. "Buttering her up so us leaving for a week and a half won't hurt as much?" Mom added teasingly.
Callie laughed.
"It worked." I joked.
"Perfect." Callie said sarcastically.
"Ok, but you guys are serious?" I had to know more.
"It's something we're looking into, yeah." Mom nodded.
"That's awesome."
Just when I thought things couldn't get any cooler. An island around Christmas time. Wow. It's like in the movies.
