Author's Note: This was actually the first chapter I wrote for this fic, and the one that kicked everything off. Only one more chapter after this one till done. Also to the guest that let the inappropriate comment. I can understand not liking a ship shown in a fic, but I worked hard to make this fic appropriate for everyone, and would appreciate that even negative comments take that into account, and aren't posted on my other non connected works. Feel free to share negative or positive thoughts but please don't use language that may make other people uncomfortable.
Enjoy!
Chapter 5- Izuku Let's the Sass Out
Izuku was crouched, breath ragged, hoping that - at least for a moment - no one would think to look here. Steam was still rising from the metal in Iida's legs, even as Shoto applied as much ice as his shaking body would allow.
The new support gear from Mei stopped his bones from shattering, but it didn't stop them from aching. And if he pushed them too much further, they would shatter anyway. Shinsou was frantically gulping down water. Although his quirk could usually only hold All For One for a few seconds, it was the only trick they had. Make him speak to a whispered question and then he was hit by things too fast to… see? Sense? He didn't seem to have eyes, but he always knew where they were.
They needed a moment. A moment to think, breath, plan. They couldn't run. There was only one exit, and if they all ran for it, the slowest one would get hit. Between the super strength, super speed, ice powers, and mind control… well, he knew who would be the slowest. But Izuku wasn't going to leave Shinsou, and Iida and Shoto wouldn't leave Izuku. So they were hiding behind an overturned table and a chunk of concrete, praying for a moment to try and save their lives.
They didn't get their wish.
"Hide and Seek? It really is too bad that I'm an expert." A cold voice said, and Izuku's mind stopped.
It flashed back to before he was diagnosed as quirkless, to that voice saying similar words in a much different tone.
Izuku was squished in between the tv stand and a bookshelf, an All Might blanket thrown over his head and hands clasped tight over his mouth to stifle his giggles.
"Wow, Izuku really is such a good hider." His father's voice sounded close, and his tone was a happy one. Izuku pushed his hands against his mouth as he laughed, eyes scrunched tight to hide from his dad.
"It really is too bad that I'm an expert," his father said, pulling the blanket off in an explosion of light, a large smile on his face.
Izuku's mind snapped back to his current reality. It had been little more than a breath, but even that short pause could have killed him if Eraserhead hadn't burst in at the exact right time.
"Run!" he screamed desperately at the students.
Iida was up in an instant, grabbing Shinso in his arms still faster even while carrying someone. Shoto had a flame in one hand while his other outstretched to form a ramp, but Izuku saw that they would be too slow. He saw the resignation of defeat in Mr. Aizawa's eyes, and he remembered his mother looking small for the first time when she had told him, "Daddy won't be home for a while, Sweetheart. It's just you and me, is that okay?"
She had never been small before… before…
And again Izuku's body was moving before he even thought about it. Missing Iida's grabbing hand and Shoto's panicked gaze, he moved closer to All for One and opened his mouth:
"I'm telling mom." It was pitchy, and broke in the middle, as any fifteen-years-old's would. And maybe that's what did it, maybe the high pitched tone was something he remembered. But he whipped his head around to look in Izuku's direction, halting his attack against Eraserhead and the open doorway.
His friend's momentum carried them through the doorway, as Izuku repeated "I'm telling mom on you." before turning and running out the door, hearing All for One's panicked, skidding steps after him.
"Izuku, Izuku come back here." The tone wasn't mad, or even exasperated - it was panicked and desperate. All for One knew what hell would rain down upon him when Izuku made it home.
Get him away from the others, was Izuku's only thought as he darted out the door in between Iida and Shoto, who had paused to turn and run back in.
He ran between them, bouncing off the walls as he led his father out of the building. Throwing himself through a window in a spray of glass (After all, the building was already trashed, so one more broken window wouldn't matter).
"Izuku," he heard his name and felt a hand brush the curls on his head before he was off again. He couldn't remember if those hands had ever ruffled his hair in a friendly manner before.
"Mom can attract small objects," Izuku called, "Does your heart count? It must be so small and shriveled, since you haven't seen your wife or child for 10 years." He moved between the roofs of the buildings as he said this. Eliminate civilian casualties, get distance. Up is better and the roofs were reinforced for this reason.
"I'll get you a puppy! No, two puppies!" His father's voice rang out, "Just don't tell your mother, please!" When he was younger, they had talked about getting a puppy after his quirk came in.
"She shares everything with Aunt Mitsuki and Uncle Masaru. Which one of those are you most afraid of?" Izuku asked, suddenly taking a sharp leftward jump off a building, causing his father to overshoot. Uncle Masaru had a calm anger, the opposite of his wife and son. While Aunt Mitsuki would burn your house down, Uncle Masaru would ruin your life in a display no one could look away from, kind of like Inko Midoriya. They were gentle until a line was crossed, and no one ever crossed it twice.
"Three puppies!" All for One's voice had risen in pitch.
Izuku led him toward their old apartment, fully intending on telling his mom. Should he call her, let her know what was happening? Or would that just cause her to worry? He didn't want her to worry. He slipped his phone out of his pocket, only to have it zapped by a red bolt from his dad.
Izuku scowled, picking up the pace, green lighting jumping off his body. "Mom paid for that herself, you know, 'cause you never paid child support. We still live at home, do you remember where that is?" Izuku pushed his limbs as hard as he could, and disappeared in a blur.
When All for One entered the apartment a few minutes later, it was to the sight of Izuku sitting at the table, a snack in front of him. Inko stood between them: arms crossed, foot tapping, and single eyebrow raised. A single angry word was on her lips:
"Hisashi."
