Chapter Seven:
Ike pushed open the front door and walked in. I trailed behind him, "Well Nick," I whispered to the sleeping newborn in my arms, "this is your home."
Ike smiled at me and then squeezed Jenny's hand. Jenny looked up at me and I smiled at her, "Would you like to hold Nick?" I asked her.
Jenny nodded, "Yes."
"Okay sit down," I said nodding towards the sofa.
Jenny ran to the sofa and I sat down beside her, "Okay you have to support his head, like this," I said shaping her arms around baby Nick.
Jenny nodded and held Nick, I smiled at them, "You have to be a good big sister Jenny. Nick is going to look up to you one day."
Jenny nodded, "I will mommy, I promise."
I kissed the top of her head, "I know Jenny."
I reached and gently lifted Nick from her arms, "Go play Jenny," I told her, Jenny slid off the sofa and ran to her room.
Ike shook his head, "That little girl makes me so proud."
I nodded, "I know."
Ike sat down beside me, "She is going to be just like her mother."
I shook my head and stared down at Nick, "I hope this one grows up like his dad."
Ike kissed my cheek softly and ran his fingers gently through my hair.
Nick stirred in my arms and yawned. I looked at him, but he didn't open his eyes. I looked at Ike, "He already sleeps like you."
Ike rolled his eyes and stood up, "What would you like to eat, I'm cooking."
I shrugged, "I don't care, I'm going to go put Nick in his crib."
Ike nodded and I stood up and walked down the hall to Nick's room. I gently placed him in his crib and smiled. My baby boy.
I turned and walked out of the room and back down the hall, stopping at Jenny's room. "Hey."
Jenny looked up from her dolls, "Mommy!"
I walked into her room, "What are you playing?" I asked sitting on her bed.
"Dolls. This doll," She said holding up one, "is you. This one is daddy. This one is me and this one is Nick."
I smiled at her, "That's very sweet honey."
Jenny smiled and moved the dolls around in her doll house making up a dialogue in her head. I glanced at the other dolls piled up beside the doll house, "Are those dolls other people?" I asked.
Jenny nodded and held up two more dolls, "This is grandma and grandpa."
I smiled, "Uh huh."
"And this is Aunt Marcie and Uncle Hale. And Misty, Walter, Randy, and Kelly," She said naming off Marcie's children.
"Is there a doll for Uncle Parker and Aunt Andy?"
Jenny held up two more dolls, "Uh huh and these two are Audrey and Charlotte."
I nodded and about that time Ike called from the kitchen, "LUNCH!"
I held out my hand to Jenny and she took it. "Mommy. I love you," Jenny said as we walked into the kitchen.
I smiled at her, "I love you too Jenny."

"Uh," Ike grunted as he gently picked Jenny off the sofa where she had fallen asleep, "What are we feeding this child?"
I rolled my eyes and followed him as he carried her off to her bed. "Careful," I said as he pushed open the door, "dolls."
Ike carefully stepped over the doll house and laid Jenny down gently on to her bed. I took over from there and pulled the covers over Jenny. I kissed her forehead, "Night Jenny," I whispered.
"We love you Jenny," Ike whispered as he took my hand.
We slipped out of her room and pulled the door shut behind us. Ike sighed and wrapped his arm around me, "Two kids Norah can sure make me feel like I'm an old man."
I laughed, "Aw, I'm sorry. I still see you as that teenage boy who liked to fly me around and torture me."
Ike shrugged, "I don't remember any of that. Sorry."
I fake punched him in the arm and laughed, "Yea right."
Ike kissed me, "I think we better head off to bed. One of our kids is very likely to awake in the middle of the night crying."
I sighed, "I guess this is what being parents means. Waking up at all hours of the night to a crying child."
Ike laughed, "Yes, but Jenny doesn't always cry, sometimes she just comes and buries herself between us."
I smiled at Ike, "But we love them."
Ike wrapped his arm around me, "We do and we only have two, we could be your sister and have four kids."
I laughed and we pushed open the door to our bedroom. "We could. I don't see how she does it though."
Ike pulled back the covers and I climbed in, Ike climbed in beside me. "I don't, Hale and your sister must be magic."
I smiled sleepy and rolled over to face Ike. I wrapped my arms around him and put my head against his chest. "I love you Ike."
Ike kissed the top of my head, "I love you too Norah."
I shut my eyes and yawned, "Good night."
Ike brushed his hand down my back and draped his arm over my waist, "Good night my love."
And with that I drifted off into a peaceful sleep with Ike's arms wrapped around me.
Well that was until Nick started to cry.
