Toby's POV:

She'd told me I was scruffy and a lazy student, chastised me for my failure to complete homework and put me in several detentions, but just a few months ago I would not have wanted to kill Miss Avia.

Admittedly, I never liked the old hag – but now I couldn't help but feeling pride as my blade slashed through her and shattered my teacher-turned-hostile-chicken-beast into dust.

After Lilly had somehow slayed the first harpy, Miss Avia and her yellow-haired counterpart squawked in anger and flew away. The fire-haired daughter of Aphrodite retrieved her blade and glared up at the birdbrained beasts.

Lemon-locks, the hideous harpy who was staring at us with a wild, hungry gaze, dived. Spreading feathered wings, she swooped down, claws out, towards Leon. The demigod knocked her aside with his spear and engaged in a fierce 'claws vs. spear' duel. I watched with bated breath as my friend knocked the harpy in the head with the side of his spear and went in for a vicious stab. She dodged and flew behind him, preparing to strike him in the back. Leon swept around, lunging with the spear and-

"TOBY!" shrieked Lilly's frantic voice. I glanced away to see Miss Avia, claws out, flying straight for my head!

My ADHD instincts kicked in. I dropped to the ground and narrowly missed my teacher's grasp. I leapt up, wielding my bronze blade as she came back a second time. I held my sword like a baseball bat as she darted towards me like the ball – would I get a homerun or be sliced to confetti by those sharp talons? Wishing I had paid more attention in sword-fighting lessons, I swung the weapon…

And with a shriek, Miss Avia was a pile of dust.

"You got her!" squealed Lilly.

Leon had defeated the banana-brained bird and we stood in a small group.

"We should help the others," Lilly decided.

"We could…" Leon's eyes widened… "or we could do something about that huge sea monster."

We looked where Leon was staring, at Cetus, who was tussling with Percy and Tom. The monster opened its jaws and a forked tongue snaked out. I saw Tom look around at the battle, and Cetus ramming forwards, knocking them both into the ocean.

"TOM!" shrieked Lilly, distracting a Cyclops who was then speared by Aston.

Leon approached the waves, only to falter as Cetus reared up, leapt through the waves and landed on the beach, opposite Summer.

Leon charged down the beach, with a sword in one hand and a spear in the other. I followed, with Lilly running after – "Wait for me!" she yelled.

Cetus was fair less elegant on land. In the sea it was a swirling, serpentine beast. Lying out on the sand, it resembled a large, very ugly slug with fins, gills and horns. We charged on, but Tom was there before us. Cetus opened its colossal maw, ready to devour Summer, as he nearly did to Andromeda all those years ago.

Tom grabbed Summer's shoulders and tried to pull her away.

As Cetus reared back its head, ready to strike, and inconveniently obstructing my view.

"Move!" I hollered, scrambling towards the terrifying scene. Lamia, the Cretan Bull and the Cyclopes had all been slain. We were all running towards Summer, Tom and Cetus. I was still unable to get a glimpse of my friends. The beast opened its jaws and brought its head down towards them, surely ready to devour them…

CLASH! A terrifying noise echoed out across the beach.

Lilly broke down, falling to her knees. Veronica sprinted over to where Cetus was hissing, screaming in despair. Leon stopped, his jaw dropping and eyes wide. Magenta, Jack, Aston, Bella, Percy, Nico, Annabeth… stopped.

Dust.

A bizarre, ashy dust spread over the beach, forcing us all into coughing fits. I recognised the strange grey substance; it was the dust that monsters became when they were killed…

Wait…

The dusty cloud began to clear.

What was happening?

I rubbed my eyes, coughed twice, and looked.

(That's all, thanks for reading…

Just kidding, I'm not that evil! I take it you've had enough of my cliffhangers :D)

Cetus was gone.

In its place was the ash and dust that it had left, and something else; a long, pointed fang, gleaming white. Tom was leant against the rock, clutching his sword with a trembling hand. Summer, thank gods, was still alive! She clung to Tom's arm; head buried in his shoulder, shaking like a leaf.

"SUMMER! TOM!" Veronica shrieked and darted forwards.

I followed, and saw with a closer look that Tom had clearly stuck his sword up into the serpent's open mouth, killing it just before he was eaten. Tears pricked at my eyes, out of relief and happiness. Summer was still chained, I noticed… but then I saw the gleaming tooth.

Veronica was crying, hugging her friends, and Lilly and Leon joined them. I stepped slowly towards the long incisor and brushed away the dust and sand. It was long and heavy, but I managed to pick it up.

"Toby?" Bella called from my left. "What are you doing?"
"Stand back!" I yelled.

My friends looked up and saw the tooth in my arms. They cleared, leaving just Summer chained up. I charged forwards, straight on to the rock… CLANG!

The chain fell away, and Summer stepped towards me. I dropped the fang and embraced her.

"Thank you."

I felt the rest of my friends: Tom, Veronica, then Lilly and Leon, all joining in.

I was walking on air, finally thankful and happy. The sun was out and we were all together.

Nothing could go wrong…

Then, naturally, something went wrong. Something went very wrong.

It was the scream that tore me from my hug – a pained, desperate, angered wail that split through the air like the sharpest of blades. I don't think I'll ever be able to forget the bitter shriek that flooded my eardrums like oceans of blood. I let go of Summer and turned to look where the sound had come from.

No…

Magenta lay crumpled on the sand, blood trickling across her arm and chest, staining her pale skin and orange camp shirt. A long spear was sticking out of her shoulder at a brutal angle, and standing behind her, holding the spear, was a certain satyr, smirking devilishly.

"LIEF!" Jack nocked an arrow and fired, blindingly fast, but the half-goat dodged like lightning and twisted the spear out, forcing a pained scream from Magenta.

"Traitor!" Aston and Leon, weapons at the ready, ran on. Jack and Summer started feeding her ambrosia and nectar

Lief shrugged and grinned impishly. "Perhaps… but I'm not the only one."

"What?" Percy was there, striding forwards.

Lief leant in to the ebony-haired demigod and whispered ghoulishly: "Look behind you."

Two figures stood on the beach. Two familiar, betraying, treacherous figures.

I sighed, angry that the Fates clearly hated me, and muttered: "Crap."

TWO MORE TRAITORS? GASP!

Who else do you think is one Lief's side? Please review, share and favourite. :)
