The weekend came and Remus could not wait. He was hanging out with his friends and for once he was not in the hospital. Remus was sitting in the living room with Les Misérables in his hands. He was reading it all week and he has not made a dent, but he doesn't care. For he was enjoying it. He smiled when Lily walked into the living room.
"Hey Rem," she said with a bright smile on her face. Oh, how he loved that smile. He was starting to love his new life, but he still knew that it won't last long. One of these days he will have to leave and…" What are reading?" she asked cutting him out of his thoughts. Remus smiled and held up the book. His hand was shaking as he held it up. "Les Misérables nice," she said with a laugh. "Only you can read a book that big," she said laughing. Remus laughed a little closing his book.
"Did... did the doorbell ring yet?" he asked in a quiet voice. Lily shook her head.
"No, sorry. I'm happy that you have friends coming over. Even if it's Potter and Black," she said making Remus laugh again. "it's nice to hear you laugh you know," she added before she walked out of the room. Remus smiled as he watched her walk out of the room. However, in the back of his mind, he thought of when this all started. The basement and him being chained to his bed. The screams of his parents dying in front of him. Remus froze n his seat and tried to shake his head to get rid of the thoughts, but it didn't work.
Sirius laughed as he and James walked up to the house. "I cant wait to hang out with Remus," Sirius said laughing. James smiled at him and rang the doorbell. Inside the house, Remus snaped out of his memories and ran to the door. He was a little out of breath by the time he got to the door, but he didn't care. He opened the door slowly and smiled at his friends.
"Hey Remus," James said with a wave. Remus waved back and took a deep breath.
"Hi," he said quietly. Sirius smiled and walked in with James behind him. "So um, let's hang out in my room. I think it…it might rain," Remus said walking up the stairs. James and Sirius nodded. However, as James started walking up the stairs, he saw Lily and winked at her. Sirius pushed him.
"That's never going to work James," Sirius muttered making Remus laugh.
"Come on," Remus said laughing a little. James rolled his eyes.
"I will make her love you will see," James said proudly as the three friends walked up into Remus's room.
About an hour into hanging out, Hazel walked in with snacks. Remus, James, and Sirius saw something in her eyes when she walked into the room. "Thank you," James said sharing a look with Sirius. They both knew that she had a secret. Remus saw it as well, but he didn't want to believe it if he knew what it was,
"You are welcome, dear. In a few minutes can you guys come down? We have something to tell Remus," Remus shared a look with his friend and nodded slowly. She smiled before she walked out of the room.
"I think I know what that was about," Sirius said standing up off Remus's bed. Remus, who was at his desk, raised an eyebrow.
"What do you mean?" Remus asked standing up as well. James laughed and pushed Sirius once he stood up as well. Soon James chased Sirius out of the room making Remus roll his eyes. Soon he nervously followed his friends out of his room. With the soft rain hitting the house.
Remus slowly walked into the living room to see his foster family there. Along with James and Sirius. James was trying to sit next to Lily, but she keeps pushing him. Sirius laughed and smiled at Remus. "Are you guys ready?" his foster mother asked looking at his foster father. He smiled and looked at everyone and then at Remus.
"Remus Lupin. How would you feel like being a part of this family forever?" he asked Remus who looked around him. Tears were in his eyes as he sat down and let out a shaky breath. James and Sirius walked over to him and smiled. Remus wiped the tears from his eyes and nodded before he started to cry again.
"Please. Please, is this a dream?" Remus asked looking around him. No one shook their heads and Remus ran over to his foster… No, his adopted parent's arms and held them close. "Don't leave okay," he muttered. Lily stood up and hugged her parents as well. James and Sirius smiled at the sight.
After a few minutes, Remus pulled out of their arms and wiped his eyes. "Thank you. Oh, thank you. But, why now? Why so soon?" Remus asked looking at James and Sirius. His adopted parents shook their heads.
"Because we love you and you will do great things and we wanted to be there for you. You deserved it dear," Hazel said laughing as Remus danced around the room with Lily, James, and Sirius. After they were done, they looked out the window.
"Hey, it stopped raining. Do you guys want to play football," Sirius said with a wild smile. Remus rolled his eyes, but he nodded anyway as they all ran outside. Remus and Sirius knew at that moment that everything might just be alright now, and they don't have to worry about anything bad.
