The Christmas invasion part 1
Authors note: I have decided to split this chapter into two parts because I've included the 2005 Children in need Episode along with the 2005 Christmas special and it will be quite a long chapter.
The two girls watched as the new Doctor began running the console, flicking a few switches and checking the monitor on the console. Both Rose and Alyssa stood there, not knowing what to say.
"6 PM... Tuesday,October... 5006... On the way to Barcelona!" he said proudly with a huge grin before turning to the two girls, still grinning.
" Now then... what do I look like? " he asked and just before either Rose or Alyssa got a chance to answer them, he started talking again " No, no no, no no no no no no no. No. Don't tell me" he then began to examine himself "Let's see... two legs, two arms, two hands" he started testing his wrist, circling it "Slight weakness in the dorsal tubercle, Hair! I'm not bald,Oh, Oh! Big hair!."
"What's going on?" Alyssa whispered to Rose.
"I'm not sure" Rose whipsered back as the doctor began examining his face.
"Sideburns, I've got sideburns! Or really bad skin. Little bit thinner" he stated before slapping his stomach "That's weird. Give me time, I'll get used to it. I... have got... a mole. I can feel it,Between my shoulder blades, there's a mole,That's all right. Love the mole" he then turned to Rose and Alyssa with a huge grin " Go on then, tell me. What do you both think?"
"Who are you?" Rose asked.
"Yeah, who are you?" Alyssa added.
"I'm the Doctor" he replied,looking quite shocked and crestfallen that his two companions didn't know who he was.
" No... Where is he? Where's the Doctor?" Rose asked, shaking her head before raising her voice "What have you done to him? "
"You saw me, I, I changed" he stated, indicating to the spot where he stood when undergoing regeneration "right in front of you. " Rose however still wasn't convinced that this tall skinny young man standing in front of her and Alyssa was indeed the Doctor.
"We saw him sort of explode, and then you replaced him, like a... a teleport or a transmat or a body swap or something" she said before turning to Alyssa "didn't we Ali?." The younger girl nodded in agreement and the Doctor was now lost for words as Rose came walking towards him and pushed him in the chest "You're not fooling me,I've seen all sorts of things. Nano genes... Gelth... Slitheen. Oh, my God, are you a Slitheen? "
"I'm not a Slitheen" the doctor told her calmly but she still didn't believe him.
"Send him back. I'm warning you; send the Doctor back right now! " she yelled.
'We want to Doctor back, what have you done with him?" Alyssa yelled, her voice shaking.
"Rose, Alyssa, it's me" he said, still trying to convince them both that he was the Doctor "Honestly, it's me. " Both girls were now staring at him, Rose was breathing heavily and Alyssa was on the verge of tears as he continued to explain himself.
"I was dying. To save my own life I changed my body. Every single cell, but... it's still me" he explained.
"You can't be" Rose whispered.
" Then how could I remember this?" he asked her "Very first word I ever said to you. Trapped in that cellar. Surrounded by shop window dummies... oh such a long time ago. I took your hand I said one word... just one word, I said... "Run"" he then turned to Alyssa " I can still remember when I first met you Alyssa, I found you hiding down there after I heard you sneeze." He indicated to the spot where he had found her hiding after she woke up in his Tardis and the little girl was now nervously moving towards him.
"Is it really you?" she asked and he crouched down so he could be at eye level with her.
"Hello Alyssa" he said and Alyssa managed a small smile as she wiped her eyes.
"Doctor" Rose whispered and he looked at her with a huge grin.
"Hello" he said gently and Rose stumbled backwards with a sigh as the reality of what had just happened hit her "And we never stopped, did we? All across the universe. Running, running, running" he began flicking switches on the console " One time we had to hop. Do you remember? Hopping for our lives" he then began to hop on the spot "Yeah? All that hopping? Remember hopping for your life? Yeah?! Hop? With the" he stopped hopping when he noticed the look on both Rose's and Alyssa's faces "No?."
"Can you change back? " Rose asked.
"Do you want me to?" he asked.
"Yeah. can you?" Rose asked.
"No" he replied with a hint of disappointment in his voice "Do you want to leave?"
"Do you want me to leave?" Rose asked, looking shocked.
"No! But... your choice... if you want to go home" he stated. he then went to the console again as Rose watched him with a saddened expression.
" Cancel Barcelona. Change to... London... the Powell Estate... ah... let's say the 24th of December" he stopped to look up at her "Consider it a Christmas present. There." He then leaned back, arms folded as the Tardis began moving.
"I'm going home?" Rose asked with a hint of dissapointment in her voice.
"Up to you. Back to your mum... it's all waiting. Fish and chips, sausage and mash, beans on toast... no, Christmas! Turkey! Although... having met your mother... nut loaf would be more appropriate" he stated before noticing that Rose was looking down to the floor to hide the fact that she was smiling but Alyssa was just smiling a little without trying to hide it.
"Was that a smile?" he asked.
" No" Rose denied.
"That was a smile" he pointed out with a smirk.
"No it wasn't" Rose replied in defense.
" You smiled" he replied in now a teasing manner.
"You did I saw you" Alyssa said in a similiar manner.
"No I didn't" Rose pointed out.
"Oh, come on, all I did was change, I didn't" he said before making a gagging noise as the two girls looked at him questioningly.
"What?" Rose asked, now looking confused.
" I said I didn't" the Doctor replied before he doubled over, making retching noises "Uh oh."
"Er... is you alright?" Rose asked as she and Alyssa nervously made their way to the console.
"Is he going to throw up?" Alyssa asked before a piece of golden time vortex issued from the Doctor's mouth.
"What's that?" Rose asked.
"Oh... the change is going a bit wrong and all" the Doctor pointed out before gagging again and falling to his knees, his face looking contorted.
"Look... maybe we should go back. Let's go and find Captain Jack, he'd know what to do" Rose suggested.
"Gah, he's busy! He's got plenty to do rebuilding the Earth!" he stated a little impatiently before a lever on the console suddenly caught his eye " I haven't used this one in years. " Before Rose and Alyssa could react, he flicked it and the Tardis violently shuddered, almost knocking the three of them to their feet.
"What're you doing?! " Rose asked as she and Alyssa attempted to hold onto the console for dear life.
"Putting on a bit of speed! That's it! " the Doctor replied in a crazy manner as he began turning more knobs as the two girls still attempted to hold onto the console "My beautiful ship! Come on, faster! That's a girl!,Faster! Wanna to break the time limit?! "
"Stop it! " Rose said in a scared and angry voice.
"Please" Alyssa begged, looking really terrified.
"Ah, don't be so dull... let's have a bit of fun! Let's rip through that vortex!" he said in a slighlty mean and crazy tone of voice before noticing the terrified look on both their faces and his voice tone calmed a little " The regeneration's going wrong. I can't stop myself" he then grimaced in pain before going back to crazy mode "Faster! Let's open those engines!." Suddenly, a bell sound could be heard in the control room and Rose and Alyssa where both looking around, trying to figure out what it was.
"What's that?" Rose asked just as the Doctor's face appeared right next to her.
"We're gonna crash land!" he replied before laughing manically.
"Do something, stop it" Alyssa yelled over the bell sound.
"Too late! Out of control" he said, running around the console whilst giggling "Oh, I love it! Hot dawg!." He began hopping up and down in excitment.
"You're gonna kill us!" Rose yelled.
"Hold on tight, here we go!" he looked at both Rose and Alyssa with a crazed expression "Christmas Eve." The two girls then hung onto for dear life as the Tardis whizzed through the vortex whilst the Doctor operated the controls with a crazed expression on his face. Pretty soon, the Tardis came to a halt and the Doctor ran over to the doors, pulling them open.
" Here we are then, London. Earth. The Solar System. We did it" he said before stumbling out of the Tardis and right into Jackie and Mickey who were stood in the courtyard outside Rose's flat, looking shocked at the new Doctor "Jackie. Mickey. Blimey! No, no, no, no, hold on. Wait there. I've got something to say. There was something I had to tell you, something important. What was it? No, hold on, hold on. Hold on, shush, shush, shush, shush. Oh, I know! Merry Christmas! ." He then fainted onto the floor just as Rose and Alyssa emerged from the Tardis with Jackie and Rose looking at them questioningly.
"What happened? Is he all right?" Rose asked, gesturing to the Doctor who was now out cold on the floor.
"I don't know, he just keeled over" Mickey pointed out "But who is he? Where's the Doctor? "
"That's him, right in front of you. That's the Doctor" Rose said.
"Yeah, he's the Doctor" Alyssa added.
"What do you mean, that's the Doctor? Doctor who?" Jackie asked. Rose then began explaining how the Doctor was dying and that he did something to stop him from dying and it changed his whole appearance.
"We better get him back up to the flat and into bed" Jackie suggested.
"How are we going to do that?" Rose asked.
"Well you can grab his arms and Mickey can grab his legs then you both can carry him up" Jackie suggested so Rose took the Doctor by the arms and mickey took him by the legs and the pair of them carried him all the way to the flat.
"He's going to be ok isn't he?" Alyssa asked as they took the Doctor into Rose's bedroom.
"I'm sure he will sweetheart' Jackie said, putting a hand on the young girl's shoulder but she wasn't so sure herself. A little while later, the Doctor had been put to bed and now had stripped pyjamas on. Rose and Alyssa where sat in the room with him just as Jackie walked in with a stephoscope.
" Here we go. Tina the cleaner's got this lodger, a medical student, and she was fast asleep, so I just took it" she said, handing Rose the stephoscope "But I suggest that we take him to Hospital or something."
"We can't. They'd lock him up. They'd dissect him. One bottle of his blood could change the future of the human race" Rose pointed out before putting the stephoscope on the Doctor's chest "Both working."
"What do you mean, both? " Jackie asked, looking at Rose with a confused expression.
" Well, he's got two hearts" Rose pointed out.
"Oh, don't be stupid" said Jackie, not believing it.
"He has" Alyssa pointed out " the doctor has two hearts." She then got up from the bed and walked into the front room.
"Anything else he's got two of?" Jackie asked but Rose gave her mum a stern look, warning her to leave him alone before exiting the room. Jackie soon followed after her and found the two girls in the kitchen. Alyssa was leaning against the kitchen counter whilst Rose was looking through the fridge.
"How can he go changing his face? Is that a different face or is he a different person? " Jackie asked.
"How should I know? Sorry. The thing is I thought I knew him, Mum. I thought me and him were. And then he goes and does this. I keep forgetting he's not human" Rose replied almost in tears but she managed to stop herself "The big question is where'd you get a pair of men's pyjamas from?."
"Howard's been staying over" Jackie replied.
" What, Howard from the market? How long's that been going on? " Rose asked.
"Oooh, you're mum's got herself a boyfriend" Alyssa teased but Rose gave her a playful kick on the leg.
" A month or so. First of all, he starts delivering to the door and I thought, that's a odd. Next thing you know, it's a bag of oranges " Jackie said but both Rose and Alyssa had been distracted by something on the tv.
"Is that Harriet Jones?" Rose asked.
"I think it is" said Alyssa. The two girls went into the living room to see none other than harriet Jones on the tv.
"Why's she on the telly? " Rose asked.
"She's Prime Minister now. I'm eighteen quid a week better off" Jackie pointed out as she entered the living room and stood next to Rose "They're calling it Britain's Golden Age. I keep on saying my Rose has met her."
"Did more than that. Stopped World War Three with her. Harriet Jones" Rose pointed out. A little while later, Mickey came round to see if any of the girls wanted to come Christmas shopping with him but Jackie insisted that she'd stay behind to keep an eye on the Doctor and Alyssa pointed out that she too wanted to stay behind and take a break following the whole event with the game station and the Rose and Mickey had left, Alyssa went into the room where the Doctor was sleeping and sat on the end of the bed.
"Hi" the little girl said shyly. It was weird seeing the Doctor in a new form as she was used to what he looked like before. Suddenly there was a knock at the door and Jackie went to answer it but noticed Alyssa sitting in Rose's room with the Doctor.
"Leave him alone sweetheart, he needs to get his rest" she told the youngster gently before going to answer the door. Alyssa got up of the bed and went out into the hallway to see Jackie dragging in a large Christmas tree.
"Why have you got another Christmas tree, I'm sure I saw one in the living room" Alyssa said.
"I have no idea, it just arrived" Jackie said "listen, why don't you go and see what's on the telly and I'll bring you through a glass of orange juice ok." Alyssa nodded and went into the front room as Jackie carried the new Christmas tree in, moved the old one out of the way and placed the new one in the same place as the old one. After she had given Alyssa a drink of orange juice, the phone rang.
"Hello" Jackie said into the reciever " Oh hiya bev, no, nothing much, just has Rose coming back from her trip, was quite shocked really as I wasn't expecting her,She turns up, no warning. I've got nothing in. I said, Rose, if you want a Christmas dinner of meat paste, then so be it" she heads into the room where the Doctor is sleeping with a cup of tea for him "Oh, no. Don't come round, darling. No, flat's all Topsy turvy. Yeah, she just barges in and litters the place. Yeah. No, I'll come round and see you on Boxing day." She placed the cup on the bedside and left the room just as more golden energy exhaled from the Doctor's mouth. As Jackie entered the front room, Alyssa was still channel surfing just as Rose and Mickey came bursting in, looking panicked.
" Get off the phone" Rose told Jackie like something urgent had just happened.
" It's only Bev. She says hello" Jackie said but Rose grabbed the phone from her and put it to her ear.
"Bev? Yeah. Look, it'll have to wait" Rose said before hanging up as Alyssa jumped up from the sofa " Right, it's not safe. We've got to get out. Where can we go? "
"My mate Stan, he'll put us up" Mickey suggest.
"That's only two streets away. What about Mo? Where's she living now? " Rose asked as Alyssa stood next to her, sensing that something wasn't right.
" I don't know. Peak District" Jackie replied.
"Well, we'll go to cousin Mo's then" Rose suggested.
"What's going on?" Alyssa asked nervously and Jackie wasn't keen on the idea of going to cousin Mo's.
" No, it's Christmas Eve! We're not going anywhere!" she pointed out "What're you babbling about?." Rose wasn't paying attention to Jackie, she was now focusing on the new Christmas tree that had arrived before she came back.
"Mum. Where'd you get that tree?" Rose asked, eyes fixed on the tree "that's a new tree. Where'd you get it?"
" I thought it was you" Jackie pointed out.
"Why did you buy her a tree when she already has one?" A puzzled Alyssa asked.
"How can it be me?" Rose asked.
"Well, you went shopping. There was a ring at the door, and there it was!" Jackie pointed out.
" No, that wasn't me" Rose insisted.
"Then who was it ?" Jackie asked just as the Christmas tree began to light up by itself and started playing Jingle bells.
"Oh, you're kidding me" Rose muttered as sections from the tree began to spin and the tree began moving towards them rapidly, spinning it's sections.
"RUN" Alyssa yelled before running out of the room followed by Rose and Jackie whilst Mickey attempted to fend it off with a chair.
"Get out! Go, go! Get out" he yelled to them.
"We've got to save the Doctor" Rose said as she and Alyssa ran into Rose's bedroom.
"What're you doing? " Jackie asked.
"We can't just leave him" Rose pointed out as Jackie yelled for Mickey who was still trying to fend the tree off with the chair but it was how ripping the chair legs. Knowing that he doesn't stand a chance, he dived into Rose's bedroom, closed the door and put a wardrobe up against it.
"We need the Doctor, he'll know what to do" Alyssa said, backed up against the wall. Rose nodded and ran over to the bed.
"Doctor, wake up!" she begged as she took his Sonic screwdriver from his pocket and placed it in his hand as the tree smashed it's way through the door. Alyssa squealed and backed herself up further against the wall whilst Jackie cowered in the corner.
"I'm going to get killed by a Christmas tree! " she squeaked as Rose leaned against the bed and spoke into the Doctor's ear.
"Help me." The Doctor suddenly sat up and aimed his screwdriver at the tree, causing it to explode.
"Remote control. But who's controlling it?" he wondered as he got out of bed, put a dressing gown on and led the four of them out onto the balcony. The five of them peered over the side to see three Santas gazing up at them, holding remote controls.
"That's them. What are they?" Mickey asked.
"You seen these before?" Alyssa asked but Rose shushed them both as the Doctor aimed the screwdriver at the three Santas who backed away and where then teleported elsewhere.
"They've just gone. What kind of rubbish were they? I mean, no offence, but they're not much cop if a sonic screwdriver's going to scare them off" Mickey pointed out.
"Pilot fish" the Doctor said.
"What?" Rose asked.
"They were just pilot fish" the Doctor replied before he doubled over in pain and the four ran to him.
"What's wrong?" Rose asked.
"You woke me up too soon. I'm still regenerating. I'm bursting with energy" the Doctor replied as he exhaled some more golden energy from his mouth "You see? The pilot fish could smell it a million miles away. So they eliminate the defense, that's you lot, and they carry me off. They could run their batteries on me for a couple of ow!." He doubled over in pain again and the other four where looking at him, clearly worried.
"What's going on?" Alyssa asked.
"My head! I'm having a neuron implosion. I need" he began but every time he tried to say what he needed, Jackie kept interrupting him, offering him things like sandwiches, bowl of soup, painkillers etc but the Doctor told her that he needed her to shut up for a minute.
"Oh, he hasn't changed that much, has he?" Jackie pointed out.
"We haven't got much time. If there's pilot fish, then" he began before pulling an apple from his dressing gown pocket "Why's there an apple in my dressing gown?"
"Oh, that's Howard. Sorry" Jackie apologized.
"I think he's her new boyfriend?" Alyssa whispered to him.
" He keeps apples in his dressing gown? " The Doctor asked, looking at the apple with a puzzled expression.
"He gets hungry" Jackie pointed out.
" What, he gets hungry in his sleep?" the Doctor asked with the same puzzled expression.
" Sometimes" Jackie replied just as the Doctor collapsed in pain again.
" Argh! Brain collapsing. The pilot fish. The pilot fish mean that something, something, something is coming" he gasped before he passed out, leaving the other four shocked by his revelation.
