The Rock-Loving Student
One day, the Rustboro City Gym Leader Roxanne invited me to Rusturf Tunnel for a friendly rematch. I accepted. My friend May tagged along. A sandstorm brewed that day, as it always does in that particular desert.
Roxanne called out an Aggron. I called out my Flygon. Flygon easily outmaneuvered Aggron and hit it with an Earthquake attack.
This would've knocked Aggron out in one hit, but its Sturdy Ability activated. Aggron struck back with an Iron Head. This both did a fair amount of damage and made Flygon flinch. Flygon struck back with another Earthquake and knocked Aggron out.
She sent out a Cradily. I recalled Flygon and sent out my Sceptile. Sceptile easily outsped Cradily and hit it with a Focus Blast move. This both did a lot of damage and lowered Cradily's Special Defense.
Sceptile was buffeted by the sandstorm. Cradily struck back with a Sludge Bomb move. This both did damage and poisoned Sceptile. Sceptile was buffeted by the sandstorm again. Sceptile struck back with another Focus Blast and knocked out Cradily. Sceptile was buffeted by the sandstorm again and hurt by its poison.
She called out an Armaldo. I recalled Sceptile and called Flygon back out. Flygon outmaneuvered Armaldo easily and hit it with a Rock Slide attack. This both did damage and made Armaldo flinch. Flygon hit Armaldo with another Rock Slide and knocked it out.
She sent out a Relicanth. I recalled Flygon and sent Sceptile back out. Sceptile easily outsped Relicanth and knocked it out with a single Energy Ball move. Sceptile was buffeted by the sandstorm once more and further hurt by its poison.
She called out a Nosepass. Sceptile easily outsped Nosepass and knocked it out with only one Energy Ball.
"The fact that we battled again is a matter of pride," she said.
Across the desert were the Desert Ruins. The three of us decided to check it out. Inside was a Regirock. I had to use my entire party just to beat Regirock. I chucked many different kinds of Poké Balls at Regirock before I caught it.
As we left the ruins, I noticed a Claw Fossil and a Root Fossil nearby. I grabbed them. After we left the desert, we returned to Rustboro City. While there, we visited the Devon Corporation to resurrect my Fossils. A Lileep was revived from the Root Fossil, and an Anorith was revived from the Claw Fossil.
The following day, Roxanne helped me train with my new Fossil Pokémon. Anorith evolved into Armaldo, and Lileep evolved into Cradily. I was grateful for her help.
The next day, Roxanne invited me to Rusturf Tunnel for another friendly rematch. May tagged along again. This time, I could only use Rock types. Using only Armaldo, Cradily, and Regirock, I defeated her entire team.
"I still have much to learn when it comes to battling Pokémon. That awareness makes me love battling all that much more!" she said.
