Kono could hear the sirens in the background, but the pain was excruciating. Blood soaked through her blouse, as she had been shot at least twice in an attempt to take down her suspect. She tried to move but that proved to be more difficult, she felt hands on her stomach and looked up to see her partner Emily trying to apply pressure, "Hey hey, you stay with me." Emily told her as she kept the pressure on the wounds, everything they feared had happened all at once. Emily let out a sigh of relief when she saw the HPD police cars arrive on the scene, "Help! Officer down!" She yelled out as she noticed Kono was losing consciousness, "Officer down!" She yelled once again as Duke Lukela exited his car and ran over. He frowned at the sight and covered his mouth as he realized that it was Kono Kalakaua. "Son of bitch," He mumbled and looked back at his officers. "We need a medic!" He yelled at them and kneeled down to help. "Kono! Kono!" He said trying to keep her awake but Kono was already bleeding out badly, she was losing consciousness fast from the blood loss.
"What the hell happened?" Duke asked the other cop and eyed her, he had never seen the woman before this moment. "We...we were tracking a suspect, we lost contact before we knew it, they were shooting at us...and she...she," Emily tried her best to explain but she was also running on fumes. Duke stood up and pulled Emily back to let the paramedics work, "Alright alright, we need to let them work." He told her, he felt sick at the sight. Kono was one of his own, he turned to Emily. "You need to also get checked out." He told her but Emily shook her head. "No no, I'm fine. I was barely hit." She said as she had only gotten grazed during the shootout. Duke nodded at her words and decided not to push it before he looked over to see Kono being loaded onto a stretcher and taken into the back of an ambulance.
Kono was in and out of consciousness, the shock was setting in from being shot. "Kono," Duke said as he held onto the side of the stretcher, he was hoping she could tell him anything. Kono tried to speak but ended up coughing blood. "Sir, we need to take her." The medic told him and he nodded before stepping back. The sight was hard, he had no idea that Kono was even back in Hawaii. He hadn't seen the young cop in almost a year and a half, he knew she went to track down a sex trafficker. "I'm coming with you," Duke told them before motioning for one of his officers. "Officer Kai, make a call to Chin Ho Kelly and keep me updated." He told him before climbing into the ambulance to stay with Kono before Emily also climbed in. She wasn't leaving her partner, she didn't know any of these people.
Steve McGarrett's House.
Honolulu, Hawaii.
Steve opened the box of pizza and laid it on the table for everyone to eat, "Dig in." He told everyone and smiled before his phone rang. He headed into the kitchen and pulled out his phone, raising an eyebrow. "Duke, I know you'll be here once you are off shift." He told him with a small chuckle, "McGarrett," Duke hesitated for a moment, that alone told Steve that it was bad. "Duke, what's wrong?" He asked and raised an eyebrow as Danny walked into the kitchen. The other cop opened the fridge to grab a few beers, "Steve, it's Kono." Duke said but he was still hesitant. Steve froze at those words and looked at Danny, who stopped once he saw Steve's face. Danny sat the beers aside and leaned against the doorway, "She's been shot, you and Danny need to be here."
"Where is here, Duke?" Steve asked as he felt his heart sinking at the thought, "The Queen's Medical Center. She's currently in surgery, but...it's not great, Steve." Duke told him as the worry in his voice was evident. "We'll be there, has anyone called Chin." He asked and that caused Danny to look over, he frowned. "Already being done. Uniforms are still at the Honolulu Harbor." Duke explained to Steve. "Alright, call with any updates, we'll be there soon," Steve said and hung up, looking at Danny. "What the hell is going on?" Danny asked in confusion. "Kono." Steve said almost in shock, he had no idea that she was even in town. Danny pushed off the wall at that information, "She was shot, Duke says it's bad." He told Danny and the blonde cop didn't need any more information.
"I'm driving," Danny said as he turned on his heels and headed into the living room area, "Party is over," He told them causing some confusion amongst the group. Steve followed him into the living room. "What's going on?" Lou asked as he set his plate aside, standing up. "We don't know, we...Kono was shot at the Honolulu Harbor, it's bad." Danny told them as he placed his hands on his waist, "I'm calling Adam." Lou told them and headed towards the door, while Steve looked at Tani and Junior, "I need you both to head to that crime scene, you call me the second you find anything." Steve told them before practically running out of the house after Danny to his car. "Copy that," Junior said before looking at Tani, they had been left alone for the moment as everyone was out of the house at those words.
The Queen's Medical Center.
Honolulu, Hawaii.
Duke sat in the waiting room, his hands were still covered in Kono's blood. He still couldn't believe that any of this had happened, he looked down at his hands as he couldn't bring himself to do anything to clean them off. "Duke!" He heard before looking up to see Adam Noshimuri rushing into the waiting room. He stood up as he tried to think of what to say, "What the hell happened?!" Adam half yelled as he was still processing the shock, "HPD received a call about shots fired near the harbor.." Duke said as he remembered it clearly, "She was already down when we arrived." He told Adam.
Adam felt like somebody had punched him in the gut, he ran a hand through his hair. Every bad thought that someone could have was running through his head, he placed his hands on his face for a moment, "How...how bad?" He asked as he couldn't think straight. The last time he saw her didn't end so well, "She was shot at least three times, she was already losing a lot of blood when I arrived." Duke told him, and let out a sigh of relief once he saw Danny and Steve. "Duke, please tell me you know something," Steve said as he laid a hand on Adam's shoulder. Duke shook his head and sighed, "Nothing yet, but she wasn't alone when we found her." He told them and motioned to Emily, who was sitting in one of the chairs. She had clearly been crying. "Detective Emily Foster, Kono's partner," Duke told the three men. "She tell you anything?" Danny asked as he eyed the woman and then looked back at Duke, "Just her name." Duke said before sitting back down, and not even a few seconds later Lou, Jerry, Kamekona, and a few others walked into the waiting room.
Emily sat across the waiting room, the tears were still falling but she didn't care. She fidgeted with her hands before realizing that her hands were still covered in Kono's blood, she bit her lip at the sight. She tried to make sense of it all, they had tracked their final target to Hawaii and now her partner was dying because of it. She took a breath and looked across the room, she noticed more people now surrounding the police officer that rode in with Kono. She finally worked up the courage to stand up and walk over to the crowd of people. She was trying to put names to faces as Kono had talked about them all of the time. "You must be Five-0." She said and everyone looked at her, she could see that they didn't trust her. "We are. I'm Commander McGarrett, we need to ask you a few questions." Steve told her, and before she could answer a doctor walked into the room. "Family of Kono Kalakaua." She said and turned everyone's attention towards her.
"How is she?" Adam asked and crossed his arms, he was somewhere between worried and angry. "She's stable for now, but she's not out of the woods yet, we are moving her into the ICU as soon as her surgery is done. She is very lucky to be alive." She told the group causing many sighs of relief, Adam watched as the doctor left the waiting room. Steve closed his eyes at those words and let out a sigh of relief before turning to everyone. "Alright, as much as I want to stay, we have a case to work." He said as he had a feeling that this would be a long night.
"Flippa and I will keep you guys updated." Kamekona told them as they knew someone needed to be there, "Good." Steve said before turning his attention to Emily. "We start with you." He told her and she nodded in agreement. Emily had nothing to hide, and she wanted this bastard more than anyone.
Five-0 Headquarters.
Honolulu, Hawaii.
"Sean Roman," Emily said after taking a sip of the coffee, leaning against the table. The detective had been given a change of clothes as her clothes were now evidence. "He is our final target, we managed to track him back to Hawaii a few days ago, and we wanted to make sure that nobody tipped him off." She told them as she regretted that choice. "That doesn't explain why she didn't call us," Danny told her and crossed his arms, leaning back against the wall. Emily let out a sigh and slid the cup of coffee away. "She stopped trusting the Nevada police department, we both did. A few months back, she walked into a trap...and I don't know all of the details, but what they did to her...she lost her pregnancy.." Emily told them as she still remembered finding Kono after that.
"Wait...Kono was pregnant?" Steve asked and looked over at Danny, before looking back at the detective across from him. "She found out a few months back, but when that happened...she was angry." Emily told them and rubbed her hands together, "We believe that he had a mole in the police department, multiple. He was always five steps ahead of us, until today...we were tipped off that he was landing in Hawaii again. Kono thought he'd stay a while since it's Superbowl weekend and the demand is high."
"Any idea where that tip came from?" Danny asked and took in the information, it was rough to hear that but they would catch this guy. They had to catch him, "No, but whoever it was. They called Kono using her personal number." Emily told them before Lou walked in. "I hate to interrupt, but Chin is on the next flight here." He told them and eyed the unfamiliar detective. "Lou Grover." He told her and held his hand out to her, Emily let out a small smile. She shook his hand and stood up, "Emily Foster, she talked about you three a lot." She told them as Kono had been ready to come home for months but she was determined to finish this. Lou let out a small chuckle, "I don't doubt it." He said before looking over at Danny and Steve, he had more than news about Chin Ho Kelly. "Do you mind if I speak to these two alone for a moment?" He asked.
"Sure?" Emily said before walking out of McGarrett's office and looking around before looking over at the photo wall of everyone that was family to these people.
"Lou, what's up?" McGarrett asked the older man and raised an eyebrow. "Kono's phone was recovered from the scene, she tried calling HPD herself. Somebody was blocking her signal." He told them as he looked uneasy about this, "Alright, alright...we need to be cautious about this. Reach out to Carson City and verify that Emily is telling the truth. Meanwhile, we try and figure out where that tip is from." He told them as he worried that the mole was right in front of them.
TO BE CONTINUED...
This is a rewrite of my previous fanfiction about Adam and Kono because I decided that I did not like the way it was going.
I have changed some things around and this will be the start of a series.
This first installment takes place during season nine, and after episode fourteen.
Adam and Kono are not divorced officially in this fanfiction.
Please let me know what you think so far.
