A/N: Decided to write a shorter chapter, since it's really late over where I'm at, but I still felt like writing. Let's see if Cosmo believes them.
The next morning, Cosmo woke up in a bit of a haze, his lime green hair frazzled all over his pillow. He tossed on his side before getting up, realizing Wanda's body was replaced by a hot pink sticky note in the middle of the sheets.
Cosmo-
I'm headed out for a few hours. Big Daddy's orders. The business has been slammed lately with all this pollution going on lately. You understand. Make sure the kids go to school, and have dinner ready by the time I get home.
Wanda
Cosmo groaned as he got out of bed with the note, throwing on his usual white shirt and pants outfit, making sure his tie was straight. Of course, she couldn't be bothered to at least tell him in person, or even ask. As much as he loved her, Cosmo had to admit that he was tired of her treating him like a maid, just because she worked at a business, and he stayed back at home. Since when was Fairy World going back to its 1950s era?
Everything was silent as Cosmo was trying to get the day started, sending Cassia and Poof off with their lunches before starting to vacuum the house, only to be interrupted by yet another phone call.
"Hello?"
"Cosmo honey it's-"
"I don't want to talk to you right now, Linnie"
"Wait, Cosmo please, can we talk about this?", Linnie begged on the other line, "I just wanted to tell you that Darren is in town, and I think it would be nice if we all went out to lunch together or something. Just to catch up. What do you say?"
"Yeah, like I'm gonna believe this is all just for catching up. You two just want to slander Wanda some more. I told you, don't get in my business if you don't have proof."
"Well-", Linnie squeaked, getting a bit nervous, "It's funny you mention that, dear. There is something I need to show you regarding all of this. Are you busy today?"
"I mean, I am trying to clean my place up. But..I guess I can spare an hour."
"Ok then. Why don't you meet us up at the Fairy World Diner? You know, the one you used to work at as a teenager? Darren and I plan to be there around noon for lunch."
"That place is still up and running? Seriously?", Cosmo asked. Linnie gave him a high-pitched Mhm.
"They even still make your favorite Mac and Cheese burger. I figured we could all go there for old family times sake."
"I dunno. I'm trying to watch my weight."
"Well, you can order whatever you'd like, of course. You're an adult after all. Just…please show up. There really is something important Darren and I like to discuss with you."
"Alright fine, but if it's just more Wanda slander, then I'm leaving.", Cosmo sighed, grabbing his wand, "I'll be there in a bit."
The sound of glasses clinking and people tapping her forks on their plates filled the air as Cosmo floated inside, taking a look around to notice that the diner looked almost exactly like it did when he worked there. The pink and green neon lights still hung just below the ceiling, and the floor still sported a classic black and white checker pattern. Even the old, red jukebox in the corner played some of Fairy World's best tracks.
Though he had started to enjoy his surroundings, Cosmo couldn't help but frown sadly as he studied the pink booths that surrounded the place. It was the first time he had met Wanda (and her pervert of a sister), when he was giving her a steak burger and a mint shake to go with it. Though her sister Blonda was more interested in his behind and body, Wanda actually seemed somewhat interested in him, striking conversations and joking about how working retail sucks. Cosmo couldn't remember a time he had laughed so hard in his life. It had been the first time since his mother had finally decided to up and leave, unheard from again until Cosmo had turned 18,000, leaving him with just his father for 6,000 years.
Looking back on it, Cosmo wasn't sure what he did wrong. In the past, it seemed like they were head over heels for each other, having little date nights here and there, and affection filling the rooms. Now, with the exception of last night, Wanda had acted like Cosmo was a total stranger, practically like a robot. Was she just bored? Was he not doing enough? Were Linnie and Darren right? No, couldn't be? They merely just didn't approve of Wanda, right?
Cosmo floated down further to see Linnie waving down towards the end of the table, with Darren looking at him on the other side. Cosmo briefly nodded at Darren before taking a seat beside him, Linnie smiling gently at him.
"Hey there hun. I'm glad you could make it.", Linnie said gently, opening up the menu, "Hmm…wonder what I should get."
"What did you two want to show me?", Cosmo started, tapping his fingers on the shoulder, "What'd you call me over here for."
"Well..uhm, honey, maybe you should eat first. This is a bit overwhelming after all."
"I'm not really hungry right now. I just wanna know what you want to show me."
"Are you sure? I don't even think you've had lunch yet."
"I'm sure. Just please…let's just get to the point."
"A-alright then. Uhm…maybe three waters please? Thank you.", Linnie said gently towards the waitress, before they left, shifting uncomfortably in his seat as he took his phone out of his pocket, "I've found the proof you were looking for Cosmo. But before I show you, you know your brother and I would never do anything to hurt you intentionally, right?"
"Why do you always say that? Just show me what you wanted to show me."
"Oh my god, Cosmo. Don't talk to Papa like that.", Darren nudged his shoulder, "Can you just climb down from your bitch-throne and get off our asses for once? This is important. Yes, we don't like Wanda, but we're not doing his just to get at her. We're doing this because she's being deceitful."
"Like you have been?"
"Listen here-"
"Boys please, can we just…", Linnie squeaked, unable to cease the tension. He turned to look at Cosmo, pulling his phone out, and showing the photograph, "I…Darren's been teaching me out to use a newer model phone since my last one hasn't been working well lately. I think I accidentally took this."
Cosmo didn't say anything, but took the phone gently from him, staring at Wanda and Juandissimo kissing in the middle of what appeared to be a park. There was natural sunlight on both their faces, and some shadows surrounding them. Cosmo felt his heart sunk as he gave the phone back to Linnie, burying his head in his shoulders. Almost immediately, Linnie got up from his head and kneeled down towards Cosmo, rubbing his back soflty.
"See, we told ya so but ya didn't want to listen.", Darren taunted, before Linnie shot a slight glare.
"Darren please. Cosmo?", Linnie asked softly, "I-I know it's a lot to take in right now, but I-I just thought it was important to show you. Oh honey…I'm so sorry."
"W-Why?", Cosmo's voice muffled slightly.
"W-Well we-"
"No…why did she do that?", Cosmo asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
"I-I really am not sure honey. I'm sorry.", Linnie said, gently rubbing his back, "Here, why don't we head to my place for a little while? Maybe you and the kids should stay with me for a little while until we get everything sorted out, hm? How does that sound?"
"I-I don't know…"
"If you ask me Cosmo.", Darren started, "It'd be hilarious if you told her off. You know, call her out like the bitch she is."
"Darren!", Linnie scolded, holding Cosmo for support, after he had paid for the waters.
"What? Just saying."
Linnie rolled his eyes as the three made their way out of the café, Darren headed home and Linnie taking Cosmo towards his place, allowing him to take a nap on his couch while he processed everything that had just happened.
