New Hope Rewritten
Chapter II: Why is it always a kid of Poseidon?
Nico
Kairi is eerily similar to every single demigod I've ever met—specifically Percy. From the dyslexia to the ADHD, she already had two marks of being a demigod. According to her, she belonged to an orphanage and that her guardians can hardly handle her and her extreme hyper actions. Doing things like painting the walls blue and nearly drowning one of the orphans and running around the orphanage screaming how they'll never catch her since "she's a bird" and that she's "running away" or something along those lines.
We went to Biology class together. Mrs. Pudgey was a seriously old and ugly looking teacher that I feel bad for the man who married her. Aphrodite probably cursed her to be that disgusting. Kairi doesn't even bother listening and opts to just tap little tunes on her table with the pen in her hand. Mrs. Pudgey, however, wasn't having it.
"YOU!" she screeched. Kairi shot up and stopped tapping,
"Yes?" she asks while raising an eyebrow.
"You seem like a know-it-all if you have the audacity to play the drums in my class. Tell me, where do seas get their salt?"
Kairi stood up and took the challenge, "Seas are salty from the minerals and—" she goes on and on like she herself has studied the different bodies of water her entire life. What I noticed is that while she was explaining, her trident pendant glowed softly. When she finished, it stopped glowing altogether and appeared to be normal like it never glowed in the first place.
To say that our ancient teacher was surprised would be an understatement—she was completely taken aback at Kairi's knowledge about the sea. "You...may take your seat. Just stop tapping your pen, it's disturbing the class."
As she takes her seat, Kairi quickly turns to look at me with wide eyes, "Did I seriously say all that?"
"Every single word." I respond, just as surprised as her.
After Biology, we had to split up. Kairi went to Music class while I went to PE class but not before agreeing to meet up at dismissal. PE class was the usual—exercising and being encouraged to participate more in class to get a higher grade. As I rounded the corner to my locker pleas echo and bounce along the halls that I pass quietly. Curiosity got to me as I followed the cries and see Kairi surrounded by a large group of jocks.
"P-please go away." She begs them.
"Come on, let's go have some fun!" A guy says. They attempt to grab her but she just pushes them away,
"I promised Nico that I would meet him after class. Please leave me alone!"
"Di Angelo?" one of them asks and scoffs, "He's a monster. He pushes people away and always glares daggers to anyone that crosses paths with him. You're with the wrong party, don't join the weirdo with his hoax on mythology."
Kairi looked at them and her expression changed quickly. From a calm sea to a brewing storm. "You can insult and harass me all you want, but insulting my friend will be your worst mistake." A nearby water fountain began making gurgling sounds. The boys stood around confused until they were hit by a strong jet of water from the fountain, soaking them wet from top to bottom. Two of them who were hit the most disintegrated into monster dust.
The gang turned into Cyclopes and I knew I had to act fast as Kairi was frozen in shock. One of them grabbed her arm, "You, daughter of Poseidon, will come with us." He firmly states.
Kairi manages to unfreeze and struggles to break free, "I'm not going anywhere!"
The monsters realized that she would be hard to take, and they took out their weapons. From swords to hammers, that seemed to really terrify the poor girl. "Follow, or die." One of them says.
"I'd rather die than follow you!" She shouts bravely.
However, her bravery was shortly lived when one of them raised their hammer high above their head. I quickly took out my Stygian iron sword while shouting a loud "Hey!" to catch their attention.
As they do, I quickly take each one down while being careful of the one holding Kairi hostage. Soon, it was just me and the one holding her, "Don't come near." He threatens while keeping his sword close to her neck.
"Don't worry, I won't be needing to come closer. Say hello to Hades for me." With a quick snap of my fingers, several of the undead emerge from the ground and grab the monster by the feet and pull him down. The ground then repairs itself, leaving nothing but a crack.
Kairi looks at me then my sword and backs away in fear. "Don't worry, I won't hurt you. You're just like me—children of gods and goddesses. Kairi, I think you're a demigod. If you come with me, this won't happen again. I'm a son of Hades." I say in a slow and calm manner.
She immediately runs towards me with a hug and I struggle to reciprocate it since people rarely hug me. "I... I trust you."
I pull away and smile at her, "I'll take you to Camp Half-Blood. It's a place filled with people like you and I. Just hold my hand and whatever you do—don't. Let. Go." I emphasize my warning while holding her hand tightly.
"Don't let go, got it." She confirmed while squeezing tightly.
