New Hope Rewritten

Chapter VII: Seems Like The Fates Are Bored

Kairi

Beep!

Beep!

Beep!

I groan, "Percy, switch off your alarm!" No response.

Beep!

"Percy!"

Beep!

"Percyyyyy!"

Beep!

"PERCY FOR GODS' SAKE SWITCH IT OFF!" I scream. Percy jolts out of bed and holds out a pen. He uncaps it and a sword emerges in its place. Without wasting another second, he sliced the alarm clock in half, effectively stopping the annoying sound.

We both sigh in sync and get ready for the day ahead. We both got showered, dressed up, cleaned the cabin, and checked if we left anything. I took a big sigh while Percy gave me a sympathetic look, "Hey, you'll be fine."

I smile weakly, "Let's just go."

We leave the cabin in silence.

When we entered Chiron's office, the centaur and Nico appeared to be waiting for us. "Now that we're all complete, I will explain the quest you six will go on." The centaur says. "Kairi wouldn't have known this since she is relatively new but have you two boys noticed how the camp is relatively quiet?" Percy and Nico look at each other in thought,

"Yeah..." Percy answers for the both of them.

"The situation is the same in Camp Jupiter and in Artemis' camp. Demigods and hunters have gone missing."

"How many?" I ask.

"Fifty-five are missing in total." He answers. "Apollo has also given the prophecy.

"Children of the sky, the water, and the ground

Shall seek for those that have not been found

A deal with Order must be made with a soul

To the depths of the earth to save it whole"

"So, 'children of the sky, the water, and the ground' mean the children of Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. 'Shall seek for those that have not been found' means finding the missing campers and hunters. 'A deal with order must be made with a soul'? What? 'To the depths of the earth to save it whole'?" I ask.

Chiron looks away with a frown, "I don't know." He says. "Kairi, could you wait at the porch, outside, for a while? I need to tell Percy and Nico something private"

"Huh? Why can't I listen in?" I ask, the feminist in me rejecting.

"Come on Kai, I'm sure Chiron has a reason." Percy says while patting my head like a little kid.

I pout, "Ugh, fine. Make it quick though." I march out and exit the Big House.

Upon leaving the building, I approach the fire that was burning. I sat by it and a voice fills my head, "Hello daughter." I look up and see Hestia in her eight year old form.

I smile, "Hi mom."

"You'll be going on your first quest, right?" she asks.

"Yeah... I can't wait to be out of here." I say with a nod. "Don't get me wrong, I love this place but I would like to see the outdoors sometime." I talked on and on about how excited I was but I can't help but notice the sadness the goddess unwillingly showed.

"That's great." She says but her tone meant the exact opposite.

"What's wrong mom?"

The goddess bursts into tears and hugs me, "You don't have to go! You really don't! You can stay here and be safe! You have a long life to live. You're still young and you should be free and safe."

I look at her bewildered, "Don't worry mom, I'll be alright. I'll be going with super strong demigods on this quest anyway."

She wipes her tears away, "Fine, go. Don't say I didn't warn you child." Then she was gone. As she did, the fire was low, almost at the brink of being put out. I attempt to strengthen it like before but nothing I did worked.

A cough from behind me grabs my attention and I see Percy and Nico standing before me with their expression grim and their bodies tense. "What's wrong?" I ask while slightly tilting my head to the side.

Percy

-while Kairi was away-

Chiron looks at us as soon as Kairi leaves, "You have to protect her. Do as much as you can to keep her safe from death." He says, his voice frantic and hurried.

"Away from Nico?" I ask.

Chiron and Nico both look at me and I hold my hands up in defeat. "Seriously?" Nico asks.

"Anyway," Chiron says, bringing us back to the topic at hand, "While Apollo was speaking the prophecy, he saw a vision. He saw the missing people on a thin floating rock while you six were on a thick floating rock. Far below were black flames."

"Tartarus flames?" Nico asks.

Chiron nods while I was confused, "What are those?"

The son of Hades sighs, "Tartarus flames are flames that if someone ever go near or get burned with it, their soul or essence will be transported to Tartarus and will be stuck there until they die."

"Apollo said..." the centaur didn't finish the sentence.

"What? What did he say?" I dare to ask.

The mentor looked at us and he seemed to age right before us, "The one soul who was sacrificed... was Kairi."

"No... it cant'!" Nico says with rage.

"I'm afraid it is predestined." Chiron says.

My vision blurred, "I... I can't lose her."

"See? Please keep her away from danger. You will rendezvous with the others at Central Park." He says.

Nico and I both nodded and walked out. We see Kairi tending the fire but it didn't change at all. Nico coughs and that immediately caught the girl's attention. She faces us, "What's wrong?"

I force out a smile and walk close to her, "Nothing. Come on, we have to teleport to Central Park. That's where we'll meet up with the others."

She nods and we all hold hands so we arrive at the same time. The three of us disappear in columns of shadows, fire, and water.
