"Mommy and daddy love you so much, Haku", Katara told her son, smiling at him. She had tears in her eyes. This was the first ever time that she would be away from him for more than a day. Haku was happy now, but Katara knew that when she wouldn't come for him tomorrow, he would get cranky. Katara looked over at Zuko. He was busy telling Suki all the things that Haku like and what to do with him when he starts acting up. Katara's heart warmed that he knew already so much about their son.
"Where are you going?" Haku asked again.
"Haku, we already discussed what is going on", Katara smiled sympathetically at him.
"But what if you get hurt?" Haku frowned.
"Remember when you got a booboo and I fixed it with water?" Katara asked him slowly and waited for him to nod that he remembered," Well if mommy or daddy gets hurt, I will just fix us up like I did then. Okay?"
Haku nodded and turned to face Zuko who just walked over to them. Zuko kneeled down and put his hands on Haku's shoulders.
"I have a very important mission for you, Haku", Zuko smiled and Haku's eyes doubled in size," What is it daddy? Am I in trouble?"
"No!" Zuko smiled," Of course not! I just have a mission I need you to do", Zuko told him and Haku nodded," I need you to watch over Suki and her mother. Suki is having a little baby just like mommy had you and I need you to help them and be a good boy for them. Can you do that for me?"
"Yes daddy", Haku smiled and hugged Zuko," I promise I'm going to be perfect."
Katara watched the love between them flow and walked over to Suki," Thank you so much again Suki. You really didn't have to do this."
"You are both family", Suki smiled," Of course I had to do this."
"Just a little warning", Katara brought up," Zuko has been working on his firebending with him so don't be to alarmed if he smoke and fire come out of his fists."
"Not a problem! I have stocked up on pots of water", Suki laughed. Katara was so thankful that she had so many trustworthy people in here life. Katara hugged Suki and her mother goodbye and went over to her son. Haku was holding onto Zuko for dear life and Katara saw little tears flowing down.
"Honey, daddy and I will be home before you know it!" Katara told him, and ruffled his hair. Haku just replied with holding out his arms and the three of them embraced each other, Katara and Zuko holding Haku tightly.
"We love you so much buddy", Zuko told smiled at Haku.
"I love you guys the mostest", Haku sniffled and wiped at his eyes.
"Don't cry. I promise we will be right back!" Katara smiled," Okay?"
Haku nodded and smiled," Bring me back a souvenir?"
"We'll try", Zuko laughed. Suki walked up behind them and asked Haku," Hey Haku? Wanna come help me and my mother make dinner? We are making pork dumplings."
"That's my favorite food ev- ever!" Haku smiled and jumped up," Bye mom! By dad!"
Katara was sad that he just ran off forgetting about them. Zuko walked up behind her and put a hand on her shoulder," You know he's going to be heartbroken when we aren't back tomorrow. Don't worry. He's just growing up."
"You're right", Katara nodded," Let's go before he realizes we are leaving."
Katara and Zuko climbed into Appa's saddle and turned away to let Sokka and Suki goodbye to each other.
"We have to pick up another person before we go to the drill", Aang told them and looked over his map.
"Who?" Zuko knit his eyebrows together.
"Toph", Aang smiled.
"Oh my-! I haven't seen her in years!" Katara smiled.
"Who the hell is Toph?" Zuko asked.
"Toph! Remember? The girl in our history class?" Katara smiled at him.
"Oh! I remember her!" Zuko smiled and then got a blank look on," History class... That memory seems like it happened a 100 years ago."
"If you wanna talk about things that seem like a 100 years ago, I am the most understanding person you could talk to", Aang commented and smirked. Katara laughed, but Zuko didn't think it was that funny.
"Alright, let's go", Sokka climbed into the saddle and wiped away a tear. Katara crawled over to him and wrapped her arms around him," It's going to be okay Sokka. We will be back before we know it."
He nodded, but didn't say anything. Katara crawled back over next to Zuko.
"Appa, yip yip!" Aang yelled out and Appa started to fly away. Katara watched Suki's house get small and smaller as they flew away. She thought she saw a little figure came out and started to wave at them with all his might.
"Zuko! He's waving!" Katara smiled and started to wave back. Zuko kneeled and waved, his arm reaching higher than Katara's. Katara couldn't help, but start crying.
"He will be fine", Zuko smiled and hugged Katara. She nodded wiped away a tear. As long as she had Zuko by her side, she would be fine.
"This place is beautiful!" Katara hopped off of Appa and looked at the surroundings.
"Isn't it?" Aang smiled," This is her parents home."
"Do you know her parents well?" Katara asked.
"Ummm", Aang looked uncomfortable," Not really..."
"What is that supposed to mean?" Zuko frowned.
"Well they don't really know she is one of the greatest Earthbenders in the world", Sokka spoke up," They think she is just some blind innocent girl."
"So how is this going to work then?" Katara asked frustrated," When are on a deadline."
"Relax!" Sokka punched her in the shoulder," Toph is going to handle it."
"I thought I felt you lot here!" they heard Toph yell. They turned to see her walking towards them, but then she paused.
"Toph?" Aang asked. She didn't reply. She just moved her feet apart and brought up rock walls that trapped Zuko in it's case.
"What are you doing?" Sokka asked and started to hit the rock with his boomerang.
"What is he doing here!?" she yelled and pointed at Zuko.
"He's helping us!" Aang told her," Let him go!"
"How can we trust him?" she inquired.
"Because I trust them!" Katara told her," Not let him go before I drown you!"
"Katara?" Toph asked with confusion," What are you doing here?"
"Helping them! Can you please let go of my husband?" Katara pleaded. Toph lowered her hands and the rock walls disappeared into the Earth.
"Are you okay?" Sokka asked and hit Zuko on the back, to Katara's surprise. Zuko nodded and rubbed his neck where the rock was held.
"So what are you lot doing here?" Toph asked," It's been awhile."
"You mean you haven't already told her?" Katara eyed Aang.
"Well... I mean... No", Aang said with defeat.
"Asked me what Twinkle Toes?" Toph smirked. Katara looked at Aang who was trying to find a way to ask her, but he couldn't exactly put it into words.
Katara huffed," The Fire Nation is invading Ba Sing Se and we need your help."
Toph roared with laughter and held her sides," Oh! That was a good one! But really, why are you here?"
Katara just looked furious," Why are you laughing? We are being serious? Why else would Zuko, of all people, be here? Why would I be here?"
"How would they possibly break into Ba Sing Se? That place is impenetrable."
"With a huge drill", Zuko spoke up," It's beyond anything that has ever existed. It's longer than anyone ever thought possibly and can break through diamond. That wall won't stand a chance. It's slow, painfully slow, but it will break through."
Toph sighed and put her hands on her hips," So what is the plan?"
"Well", Aang told her," If you come with us," We will tell you."
"And how do you expect me to do that?" Toph asked," My parents aren't one for just letting their only child leave."
"Don't tell them", Katara told them," Let's go. Right now."
Toph looked uncomfortable for a moment, switching her weight between her feet, but then sighed with defeat," Fine. But I'm not rejoining this little group. We all went our separate ways for a reason."
"Fine by me", Katara told her," I still am rather upset when you and Aang kidnapped me from my party."
"How long have you been holding that in?" Toph rolled her eyes and shot herself of the Earth into Appa's saddle," Let's go! I wanna come home as soon as possible."
"This is going to be fun", Zuko made a face and Katara laughed.
"Oh my God..." Katara gasped at the sight of the drill slowly making it's way towards the wall.
"That's it", Zuko frowned. He was still upset with himself... He did help construct it afterall.
"I can't see it, but I am assuming it's quite large. How exactly are we going to take this down?" Toph asked.
"Zuko, if you would..." Aang gestured for Zuko to explain.
"Our friend Ty Lee..." Zuko cleared his throat and Katara bowed her head in respect for the friend who had been killed trying to visit them when they were held in prison all those years ago," Was a master at finding the pressure points in the human body and using them to her advantage. If she hit you in the pressure points, you could ultimately become immobilized. That is what we are going to do with that drill. FInd it's pressure points and collapse it."
"How are we going to get down there?" Toph asked.
"That is where you come in", Zuko smiled. Appa is going to lower us to the ground behind it and we are going to travel underground until we are underneath it", Zuko told her.
"Let's do it!" Toph smiled," It's been awhile where I can exercise my abilities."
Appa flew behind the drill and Toph swirled the dust in front of them so anyone who was in the drill couldn't see them.
"Once we go underground, you won't be able to see so stay close", Toph told them. They nodded and Toph swirled a dirt cloud in front of them," Let's go!"
They ran towards the drill, the four of them staying close to Toph. She made a hole in the ground," Everyone in the hole! Let's go!"
They dove in and Toph swirled it close.
"It's so dark in here!" Sokka commented," I can't see."
"Oh boo hoo. That is so horrible", Toph said sarcastically.
"Oh", Sokka said quietly," Sorry."
Katara held what she hoped was Zuko's hand, but assumed it was from how hot it was. He squeezed and she squeezed back.
"Here we are!" Toph told them and opened a hole and they hopped out. Zuko ran forwards and looped his legs around a bar so he was hanging upside down. Aang flowed through it no problem, but Sokka ran and grabbed Zuko's hands so he was able to throw him up into the drill. He did the same with Katara.
"Toph, c'mon!" Zuko told her.
"No way!" Toph pointed to the drill," I can't bend in there! I am not going into that metal monstor. I'll stay out here and try to slow it down."
"Fine. Good luck!" Zuko told her and flipped upwards so he was able to get into the drill too.
"Where's Toph?" Sokka asked Zuko.
"Said she wasn't coming in. She can't bend in here she she's going to try to slow it down out there", Zuko told them and they nodded. They walked through the drill carefully so they wouldn't be spotted.
"I need a floor plan, a map of some kind so I can see where the pressure points would be", Sokka thought out loud.
"Not needed. I've been in this thing thousands of times", Zuko admitted," This way. I know exactly where we need to go."
Katara followed Zuko and Aang and Sokka had no choice but to follow.
"This place is huge!" Sokka said looking at all of the metal beams.
"So here's the plan", Zuko told them," We gotta cut through the beams."
"What is this 'we' stuff?" Katara frowned," Aang and I have to do this."
"Yeah...", Sokka smiled," But we are routing for you!"
Katara drew the water out of her water sack on her hip and cut through the metal. Aang captured it in his hands and sliced it through. They soon were going back and forth at a rapid pace and the metal was slowly being cut.
Katara was breathing hard and wiping sweat from her forehead and Aang had his hands on his knees.
"C'mon guys! We are almost-!" Sokka sang out. Katara whipped out her water and was about to hit it into his face.
"I mean, you guys are almost there!" Sokka recovered. Katara brought the water back and cut through the metal. They finally sliced through the last of it, but all the beam did was go down about half way and stopped.
"It didn't work!" Katara yelled," At this rate we won't even make a difference before the drill hits the wall."
"I don't know how much more I have in me", Aang frowned. They heard a rumbling and Sokka smiled," We did it! We better get out of here!"
"I don't think that's the drill collapsing", Zuko frowned. They heard a beep and then a voice boom overhead," We made contact with the wall! Ba Sing Se is in our reach!"
"Oh no! We're to late!" Katara yelled and ran her hands through her hair.
"No! We're not! You should never put 100% into one thing. You must weaken it and then deliver a final blow", Zuko told them," All we have to do is weaken the beams and then deliver a final blow."
"I can do that!" Aang smiled," I will go to the top and deliver the blow!"
"Let's get to it then", Katara smiled. Her and Aang set to only cutting through the beams half way. Zuko went around and heated the beams so half of the beam melted under the heat of his fire.
"We gotta go!" Sokka told them. They were about to leave when a shot of fire came between them.
"Woah!" Katara dove out of the way. She looked up to see Azula and Mai. There was some other new girl next to them she didn't recognize. Probably Ty Lee's replacement Katara thought bitterly.
"You were right Azula!" the new girl smiled," It is the Avatar!"
"Well, well...", Azula smiled," And my sister-in-law."
The new girl looked at her confused and Katara noted how Zuko was nowhere to be found.
"Run!" Aang yelled and shot air at them. Katara and Sokka ran down the hall where it split.
"Go that way! I know what I have to do!" Aang told them.
"Here!" Katara threw her water to Aang," You need this more than I do."
He nodded and ran down the hallway. Katara and Sokka ran the other way.
"Where's Zuko?" Sokka asked.
"I don't know, but he knows what he's doing", Katara told him. They ran into a latch and she started to twist it.
"Ew", Katara looked at the mucky water in the pipeline," Mud."
"Right now, it's our way to survive", Sokka told her and pushed her in, jumping in after her. After what seemed like forever they finally flowed out and splatted onto the ground.
"Ew!" Katara raised her arms and frowned at the muck.
"Incoming!" Sokka pointed at the girl flowing down to them. Weird. She looks just like Ty Lee, but more... Younger? Katara thought. She raised her arms and stopped the water coming out.
"Toph?" Katara yelled out and hoped she would hear her. Soon enough Toph came running out from underneath the drill and towards Katara.
"Hold this! It has Earth in it. It's mud", Katara told her.
"Not a problem", Toph smiled and planted her feet pushing the mud farther into the pipe.
"Where are you going?" Sokka yelled out to his sister who was running to the front of the drill.
"I have to go help Aang!"
Aang was running out of breath as he sliced at the metal preforming a big 'X' on the metal.
"Man, what I would give to be a metal bender right now", Aang sighed. He was about to start again, but a fire streak went past his head. He turned and faced Azula.
"You little brat! I am sick of you showing up and causing a mess of things. I hope you're prepared to die now", she smiled and raised her arm but a mud streak shot and wrapped around her wrist.
"I hope you're talking about yourself!" Katara yelled and shot Azula's feet out from underneath her.
"I was wondering if I was ever going to see you again", Azula smiled and picked herself off the ground," Looks like someone has more of a backbone. Tell me, how are you and the little bastard child doing?"
"He's fine", Katara smiled," And once you and you're father are gone, I am taking back my place as Fire Lady and he will become the Prince."
"How dare you say that!" Azula shot fire out," Once I kill you, he's next!"
Katara's face darkened and she brought her arms up," Azula, you never learn... Never threaten a mother's child."
Katara gushed mud water at Azula and hoped she was distracted enough that Azula wouldn't notice Aang behind her still working on the drill. Azula was covered in mud and she blew fire out of her feet and hands, floating towards Katara. Soon they were engaged in combat. Fists flying and kicking. They weren't even using the elements anymore. Katara knew this was personal. To Katara, she was fighting her sister. She really thought that her and Azula were like sisters once. But family never does what Azula did to her.
Katara lost her concentration thinking about what Azula and her used to be and she was punched in the face and then knocked on her back by a swift kick to her chest.
"Oomph", Katara moaned and landed on her back. Azula placed her foot on Katara's throat and Katara was grabbing at it, trying to breath again. She looked past Azula and at Aang who was just about to pierce a rock that he stuck in the groove of the spot he made and was running up the wall to pierce it.
"It's a shame your true love will never know what happened to you", Azula smiled," He is a more cruel and ruthless Fire Lord than my father and I ever could be."
Katara knew she was trying to psych her out and lie to her.
"He will be pleased when I deliver your head to him", she smiled cruelly. She was about to strike Katara when a flame shot out and knocked her back. Azula looked behind her just as Aang struck the rock and it caused the drill to collapse into itself. She looked at the person who knocked her down and he jaw dropped.
"Zuko?"
