Chapter 16: The End

"Where's daddy?" Haku looking away from his window in their carriage to Katara sitting across from him.

"I told you darling", she repeated," He's at our new home with Aunt Azula."

"Why are we moving?" he leaned back and crossed his arms. She couldn't help but smile at how he was becoming more like Zuko everyday, even with his attitude.

"Because daddy got his old home back and he wants us to live there with him", Katara smiled at him," We are all going back home."

"I like our old home", he huffed. She knew he was just giving attitude from him being scared and uncertain. She was certain as soon as she saw his new home he would love it. Who wouldn't love being a little prince?

"Comfortable?" Azula heard from behind her and saw Zuko standing in her bedroom door frame.

"Not really", Azula grimaced," It feels weird to be back here."

She was back in her old bedroom from when she was in high school, and she didn't really know how to feel about it. It felt weird. Like her life was paused this entire time and she just hit start again.

"Have you heard from Mai yet?" he walked more into her room to stand in front of her.

"Not yet", Azula sighed," She and her family are still in hiding. I don't know if she's ever even received the letters I've sent her. Or if she's even alive..."

"I'm sure she's alive", Zuko assured her, placing a hand on her shoulder. She tensed under his hand and looked at him startled.

"You don't need to hate me anymore Azula... I know you wanted to be Fire Lord, and I can't help that, but I promise I will never make you do the missions he had you do, and you will know and have a say in how things are run in our nation. Okay?"

She nodded quickly and watched Zuko leave her. She felt strange being in her room again, she was still unsure about her future, she was scared if people would hold against her what she had to do for her father, but she was sure that her future with her family would be a good one.

"Daddy!" Haku jumped out of the carriage and ran to his father. Zuko was kneeling and had his arms stretched out wide.

"Hey buddy!" he hugged his son tightly.

"I missed you!" Haku smiled at Zuko," Mommy made us ride in that instead of Appa..."

Haku frowned at Katara who rollled her eyes.

"It's not safe for you Haku... We went over this already."

"Well all that matters is you two are here now", Zuko stood and kissed Katara deeply.

He pulled back and rested his forehead against hers," I missed you."

"I missed you, too", Katara smiled and kissed Zuko again.

"Aunt Zula!" Haku took off towards Azula. She had wanted to mend the bridge between Katara and her more by going out to greet her.

"Hey kid!" she smiled at mini Zuko running at her. He jumped up to hug her and knocked her over.

"I missed you!" Haku looked at her," I was scared I'd never see you again!"

She sat up and had him in her lap," I told you I'd see you again, didn't I?"

"Yeah", he nodded.

"Then why would you be scared?" she smirked at him," I am never wrong."

"Hah!" Katara laughed loudly," If that isn't the biggest load of crap!"

"Shut up!" Azula scowled at Katara and Katara stuck her tongue out at her.

"Is it weird being back here?" Zuko came up behind Katara and wrapped his arms around her.

"A little", she shrugged and looked out onto the city. They were back in his room he had years ago, on his balcony.

"It'll take time getting used to it, but we'll get there. Our nation is broken right now, but with the Avatars help, Tophs, and yours, our world will find peace again", he reassured her. She turned in his arms and smiled at him.

"I know we can conquer any problem that comes our way", Katara smiled and kissed him. He deepened the kiss and pulled her into their room. He turned her so she fell onto the bed and he crawled up towards the pillows with her. He pressed his lips into hers harder and she moaned against him.

"I will never get tired of this", Zuko smiled at her. She grinned back at him and kissed him.

"Katara... Wait", he pulled back," I have to ask you something."

"What, Zuko?" she rolled her eyes," Now isn't the time."

"Marry me, Katara."

"What?" she laughed," I'm already married to you."

"Marry me again", he told her," Last time was years ago when we were just kids rushing to get married. I want our son there. I want the nation to be there. I want people to see that we are a strong unit together until the end."

Katara smiled at her soon-to-be already husband and giggled," Alright Zuko. I will marry you."

"I'm itchy", Haku yanked at his collar and frowned at his father.

"I know you are", Zuko smirked," I am too. But this is important."

"You and mommy are already married", Haku reminded him.

"Thank you, I'm aware", Zuko laughed," But this is important to me Haku. That we do this while you're here. It's important that our nation knows we are a unified family. Understand?"

Haku nodded his head, but still yanked at hit collar. They both turned when they saw Katara walking down the aisle towards Zuko. This time her father got to talk her down the aisle instead of Ozai. They stopped in front of Zuko and he reached out to shake Hakoda's hand. He met Zuko's hand with a smile and shook it firmly.

"You look beautiful", Zuko smiled at her and grabbed her hand.

"So do you", she smiled at him.

"What about me mommy?" she looked down at Haku pointing at himself.

"You are so handsome", she bent down and kissed the top of his head.

"Are you ready to exchange vows?" they look at the priest standing next to them.

"Yes", they both said.

"Just a minute though, please", Zuko held up his finger," I wrote something for Katara."

Katara watched him take out a folded piece of paper out of his suit and clear his throat.

"When they ask you why you love the rain, the ocean, the river, tell them it is because unlike the people who should have loved you better, the water was never afraid to touch you; even when you were at your most damaged and broken."

"That's what you did for me Katara. You loved me when I was at my most broken and took me back into your home and into your lives and I can never thank you enough for that. If I had never found you, I feel our paths would always cross. I love you Katara. Haku and you are my everything."

"I will always love you Zuko."

Five Years Later

"Haku!" he winced hearing his mother yell his name," Get down here this instant!"

He walked down the stairs that led to the outside garden and saw his mother standing in front of him, her arms crossed.

"Well... Do you have anything to say for yourself?" she tapped her foot.

"Before I admit to anything, what are you referring to?"

"Don't be smart", she scowled," This."

She pointed to the rose bushes Zuko had planted for her that were burned.

"Well..." he grimaced," I might have been practicing with Aunt Zula and I might have missed where I was aiming."

"What have I said about practicing out in the open?"

"Not to do it", he rolled his eyes," I hate being inside though..."

"What's going on out here?" Zuko walked towards them, leaving behind his councel members.

"See for yourself" Katara gestured to the roses.

"Oh no", he frowned," Who did that?"

Katara widened her eyes," Who do you think? The little fire bomb we're raising!"

"Haku, how could you do this?" he frowned at him.

"It wasnt on purpose!" he defended himself.

"Haku, just go to your room while we decide what your punishment is", Katara pointed to the palace. Haku huffed and stomped his way back inside.

"His firebending is getting out of control", Katara sighed and looked at their burned roses.

"He can't help it", Zuko shrugged," He'll be able to control it after more practice."

"I don't know how I feel about your sister training him", Katara looked back at him," She isn't as controlled as you are."

"While that is true, she is tied with me in being powerful. Just have some trust", he wrapped an arm around her," She is trying to do right by you still. She will never hurt him or steer him in the wrong direction."

"Alright", Katara smiled and nodded," I hope this one is going to be a waterbender."

She smiled as Zuko kissed her baby bump.

"Or better, an airbender", Katara laughed as Zuko contorted his face in disapproval.

"I will love them no matter what they are", Zuko kissed her.

"I will always love you", Katara kissed him.

And it was a kiss that would last them forever.
