Chptr 18

Ryan stood feeling ridiculous and terrified at the same time.

"I can't believe they ditched me." He didn't know why he was talking so loudly to no one but for some reason it made him feel better. He walked a few more steps and then sat down against a dying tree.

"Who knew there would be trees at all in purgatory? I can't believe I'm in fucking purga-" He froze as he heard a sound. He couldn't quite make out what it was though. Just a rustling but he really didn't want to stick around to find out what it was. So naturally he ran. Ryan took off running as fast as he could. He felt his heart racing. It felt as if it were going to burst from his chest and keep running on it's own leaving him behind to face whatever nightmare beast he was running from. He was running through a forest. He left the trail thinking that was too dangerous to stay in plain sight of any monster that wanted to rip him a new...well everything. However the only downside was in a situation like his current one he had no idea where he was going. He only had one thought. I gotta get the hell outta dodge. He ran until he legitimately could not catch his breath. He nearly fell over a rotted out tree stump. He fell on his back and gasped for breath. His face cut from low hanging branches he was sure he left a scent for any monster to follow easily.

"Fuck….this….I'm gonna…..die here."

He managed to speak through deep breaths. He lay there for only a few seconds before he felt a presence and heard a voice say to him,

"Well with that attitude you will." Ryan jumped up with a surge of adrenaline as he turned to face the voice behind him. It was Dean.

"Come on get up." Ryan stared at Dean and in a hoarse whisper of a voice screamed "Where the hell have you been?! I almost died!"

Dean looked at him confused. "No...you didn't. You were running from me idiot." He reached down a hand to help Ryan off the ground. "Come on kid get up."

Ryan just looked at the outstretched hand digesting what Dean just told him and coming to grips with how much of a wuss he must have come across as.

"I'm sorry. I'm just freaking out man." He couldn't think of a way to really justify his actions. Dean gave him a reassuring smile. "It's fine. We're all freaking out. You, me, Sam, we're all freaking out. I never thought I'd actually be here again. Now get up dammit. We need to find Sam." Ryan took the outstretched hand and got up. They began walking and talked as they walked.

"So what did you mean when you said you didn't think you'd be here again? You've been to purgatory before?" Ryan asked waiting with a follow up question he would never get to ask.

"Yeah I've been to purgatory before. I was brought here by a monster called a Leviathan named Dick Roman. They had a plan to take over the world and basically Humans would be the new cow, pig and et cetera. Leviathan eat humans and sometimes each other and on the rare occasion, themselves." Ryan stifled a laugh.

"How, no better yet, why do they eat themselves?"

"Well I once saw Dick force one to eat himself as a punishment for not killing me and Sam. They called it bibbing. But anyway I was trapped here in Purgatory for a while before-"

"Sam saved you?"

"No…" There was a long pause. Dean's silence only lasted a few seconds no longer than maybe half a minute, but it echoed into the rest of his story. "Sam didn't save me, I was saved by a vampire named Benny. He showed us how to escape before."

"So you know how to get out of here! Awesome let's go then!" Ryan nearly ran ahead before realising he had no idea where he was going so he stopped himself. Dean sighed heavily.

"Yeah we did know how to get out but unfortunately the portal that took us the first time, it was sealed shut. We don't know by who or what but basically that's where you come in. Dean stopped and looked at him. "You see the thing is you aren't really here with us. We brought you here mentally with a spell. Well spiritually...I guess. We used a spell to bring your subconscious here so we could communicate with you." Ryan struggled with this information. For someone usually pretty open minded he had a hard time accepting what Dean was telling him.

"Wait so I'm… what a ghost right now? I'm really still knocked out in the medical room in Heaven?" Ryan asked not believing that this was actually happening to him in real life. "That's impossible! This is the type of stuff that happens is Movies and T.V. and books. Not real life." Dean just stood there waiting on him to calm down.

"Hey calm down. It's happening and this is your life now. Like it or not this is it kid. Welcome to the major leagues of magic, monsters and this crap that is my fucking life too and Sam's so get over it." Dean watched as Ryan seemed to take deep breaths and calm himself down. "Now it's up to you to save us man. There's not much time. There's a war on the horizon and you can't win it without us. You gotta believe me. Sam and I, our lives depend on you." Suddenly, the image of Dean began to blur and fade, Before it ended, Ryan saw Sam running towards Dean with a pack of wild looking men chasing him.

"Dean! Help Sam I'll find you!" Ryan managed to yell before finding himself waking up in the medical room with his friends standing around him. "Guys...I have a shit ton of crap to lay on you and it's gonna sound crazy but here goes…."
