Chapter 11

The drive back to Maura's was unusually silent. It wasn't an award silence; they were to the point in their friendship where comfortable silence was sometimes welcome. "Friendship…" Jane tossed the word around inside her head for most of the ride home, unsure if that's where they still were or if everything that had happened pushed them closer to the "girlfriends" point, if there was such a thing, because they'd come pretty close to it already over the past few years. Jane knew she loved Maura. How could she not? For years she had dismissed it as just an intense friendship and that her feelings weren't reciprocated. Now she knew that Maura loved her, too. As exciting as that new information was, it also scared Jane. She could never afford to lose Maura and she didn't want to jeopardize their friendship in any way, but she was lying to herself if she said she didn't want more for herself and Maura. They would be good together, right?

Maura was deep in thought for the drive home, wondering about where she and Jane stood and also what Jane would be thinking about right now. Maura glanced over at Jane for what felt like the hundredth time during this car ride, and Jane's brow was still furrowed, deep in thought. Maura had made her feelings clear to Jane, even though she knew they would still need to talk about it when they got home. She knew exactly what she wanted now, and that was Jane. Maura couldn't see her life with anyone else by her side, and Jane made her happier than anyone else ever had. She was hopelessly and irrevocably in love with Jane Rizzoli. Finally being able to admit this to herself, a huge grin broke out across her face.

As Jane pulled the car into Maura's driveway, she seemed to come back to the present situation. After putting the car in park and shutting it off, she looked over at Maura sitting in the passenger seat. The medical examiner sat there, looking back at Jane with a grin on her face. Jane reached over and tucked a piece of Maura's golden brown hair behind her ear.

"Maura, you're beautiful," Jane said. "May I kiss you?" Maura's voice caught in her throat at Jane's compliment and she could only nod her head to answer Jane's question. Both women leaned into each other's personal space, but Jane was the first to close the distance. Jane's lips gently pressed into Maura's as her hand reached up to tangle itself in Maura's hair. Jane had wanted to kiss Maura badly for a while now and she was beginning to realize that she would never be able to get enough of this. Maura felt as Jane's kiss turned from sweet and tender into a more passionate, wanting kiss. As much as she didn't want to, Maura broke her lips away from Jane's and rested her forehead against Jane's.

"How about we take this inside?" Maura whispered. Jane smiled back at her and gave a small nod to Maura as she began to get out of the car.

As the women entered the house, Jane made a beeline for the couch and Maura went to the kitchen to pour a glass of wine for herself and grab a beer for Jane. Maura made her way back over to the couch and slipped her heels off as she handed Jane her beer.

"Thanks, Maur," Jane said, smiling as Maura settled herself down into the couch next to Jane. Maura took a sip of her wine as Jane took a drink of her beer, neither woman sure of how to start, or who should start.

"Maura, I-"

"Jane, I-"

Apparently they were both going to start at the same exact time. They both chuckled, breaking the odd tension that had settled over them.

"You start," Maura offered. Jane took a deep breath to calm her nerves.

"Maura, I've realized something over the past few days. Well, I think I had realized it a long time ago, but I ignored it until very recently. That wasn't fair of me to do, but I'm ready now, and I hope you can forgive me for being so hard-headed about things. Maura, I—I think I love you," Jane's confession felt like a weight off her chest and Maura's face lit up with a beautiful smile at Jane's words. "No, I KNOW I love you Maura. And I can't believe I buried these feelings so far down for this long. I've missed out on so much time with you, I just-" Maura had decided that Jane had talked for long enough and was starting to ramble, so she had decided to reposition herself onto Jane's lap. Well, technically over Jane's lap as she straddled Jane's legs, her knees digging into the couch cushions. Jane gulped, her voice seemingly gone. Maura smirked at Jane's wide-eyed expression. Maura set her glass of wine on the table next to the couch, and set Jane's beer next to her drink.

"I love you, too, Jane" Maura said, her voice much lower than Jane could ever recall, "And I'm tired of wasting time just as much as you are. So how about we make up for some of that lost time? If that's okay with you, of course," Maura's determination faltered just slightly, suddenly unsure of what Jane's response would be. She knew Jane would want to, but maybe she wouldn't be ready for this yet. Jane looked into Maura's eyes, and she saw a moment of vulnerability there that Maura didn't usually allow anyone to see, save for Jane herself, and even then it only happened a few select times.

"To Hell with it," Jane thought. Normally she wouldn't go this far with someone until after several dates and she was sure about it, but this was different. This was Maura after all. What they had been through would be considered more than several dates and she was surer about this than anything else she'd ever had.

She pulled herself upward and kissed Maura with so much feeling it would be impossible to not understand what she was trying to convey. Of course this was okay with her. It was more than okay. It was everything she had ever wanted.

Maura lost herself in Jane's kiss, which was something she rarely allowed herself to do when kissing anyone. She always kept the upper hand, but with Jane, it was different. She could open herself up because she knew Jane would never hurt her. Maura brought her hands up and ran them through Jane's hair, pulling ever so slightly, much to Jane's delight. An involuntary moan escaped Jane's lips, but she decided she didn't care. She wanted Maura to know how much she wanted this.

Jane continued to pull herself up and into the kiss as she carefully moved to get her legs onto the floor with Maura still straddling her lap. She didn't want their first time to be on this couch. Second, third, forth, or any other time afterwards, sure, but not their first. Maura pulled out of the kiss, understanding Jane's movement. They locked eyes and she saw something flash in Jane's eyes that sent a jolt through her. Jane repositioned Maura and got up from the couch. She immediately turned and picked Maura up, bridal style, with ease. Jane had never carried anyone upstairs before, but she knew this was what she wanted. It seemed so cliché, but she wanted to give Maura a fairytale fantasy. She deserved nothing less. They reached the bedroom upstairs and Jane carefully set Maura onto the bed, but Maura had other ideas. She reached up and moved to take Jane's shirt off. Jane helped get it off the rest of the way, and then pulled Maura's shirt off. They had seen each other in various stages of undress plenty of times over the years, but this time was different. All of the feelings they had pushed aside in the past were at the forefront of things now. They finally didn't have to hold back. Maura scooted to the edge of the bed and began to unbutton Jane's pants. Truth be told, there was nothing sexy about the way she pulled Jane's pants down, because the time for slow, sexy strip teases wasn't now. As Jane stepped out of her pants, she took a step forward and pushed Maura back onto the bed. With a little maneuvering she managed to unzip Maura's skirt and pull it down to join the pile of what was Jane's pants lying on the floor. Maura was left wearing a simple black bra with a pair of black lace panties. Jane's look was…well, it was exactly Jane. She was in a black sports bra and black boyshorts, but Maura wouldn't have her any other way. This was the Jane Rizzoli she knew and loved. With Maura under her, Jane began to kiss Maura's neck. They were slow, carefully placed kisses and she began to suck and bite between kisses, careful not to leave a mark. Maura didn't even try to hold back the moans that escaped her lips as she lifted her hips to make contact with any part of Jane. Jane lifted Maura up slightly to reach behind her and unhook the clasp of her bra. She then tossed it to the side of the room and pulled her own sports bra off in one swift motion.

"Underwear off," Maura muttered between the kisses she peppered along Jane's abdomen as the detective pulled off her bra.

"Yes, ma'am," Jane replied eagerly. It was only a matter of moments before Jane's underwear and in soon after Maura's, too, landed in the pile of discarded clothes on the floor.

There was finally nothing between them. Jane realized this and got lost in Maura's beauty for just a moment.

"Maura, you're-, wow, I just…"

"Later," Maura nearly growled at her. They had avoided this moment for years, but it was finally happening and Maura needed Jane, the sweet nothings could wait for another time and place. Maura pulled Jane back down on top of her and both women reveled in the feeling of their naked bodies finally together. Not only did if feel amazing, Jane realized it felt like they fit together perfectly. Two puzzle pieces that had been nearby all along, but they just hadn't tried to put it together yet. That wasn't the case now, though, as Jane began to trail kissed down Maura's body. She stopped at each breast on her way down, paying careful attention to each nipple.

Continuing her trail of kisses down Maura's stomach, she felt the blonde arch her back as Jane was now only inches away from where Maura needed her most.

"Please, Jane," Maura whimpered in a way Jane almost didn't recognize, as this side of Maura was a whole new experience. Jane needed no more encouragement than that as she finally reached Maura's clit with her tongue. Somewhere between the hard presses of her tongue and several long swipes, Jane found her fingers entering Maura. Based on the sounds she was making, Maura was enjoying every bit of Jane's ministrations. Jane curled her two fingers, hitting Maura's g-spot as she swiped her tongue over the blonde's bundle of nerves. If finally pushed Maura over the edge and Jane felt Maura's walls clench around her fingers before Maura's whole body shuddered in a spectacular release. Jane placed a few more kisses before she collapsed next to Maura in the bed, both women breathing heavily.
"That was…" Jane trailed off, words escaping her.

"Fantastic," Maura finished, still able to somehow form a coherent thought.
"I'll change that next time, leave her totally undone," Jane thought with a smirk.

Maura began to move next to her, eager to give Jane the best orgasm of her life.

"Let's stay here, just a little while longer," Jane sighed. Truthfully, she never wanted to leave this spot, lying here with Maura in her arms. She closed her eyes, breathing in Maura's scent and savoring everything about this moment, content to know that no matter what life threw at them next, she knew they would always be side by side. It didn't last for long though, as she felt Maura move to be on top of her. With a smile, Jane realized, for this she had all the time in the world.
