I felt sorry for hitting Harry, right in the face. He deserved it but at times i just couldn't control myself.
After all that's happend i still love him. I still care for him. I still want him... But he doesn't seem to care.
He's about to bring our first child (and his second child) into the world, and i couldn't feel more awkward. "Are you okay?" Jesse wondered.
I looked up, after drowning in my own thoughts. "You look a little down?" she wondered.
I shrugged. "I'm just not ready to have this baby, i'm scared of the pain i'll feel." i said. "I've never been through this before, i don't know what it feels like and i can't just say stop and the pain will disappear that's not how it works."
Jesse sat down right next to me and placed a hand on my back. She's been very supportive of the pregnancy and of me, much more than her father would ever be.
"You know what they say? After the baby is born, you'll forget about the pain and all that matters is your little cutie." Jesse stared at my belly. "May i?"
I nodded. She placed a hand on my belly, waiting for the baby to kick. "Wow that was a strong one!"
I smiled. "If this baby isn't going to have super strength as their powers, i don't even know what it could be." she said.
"You know." i started. "You and your father are two completely different people." i said.
"They say i look like my mom more when it comes to character." she said. "I couldn't be as cold as my dad is. I just think the reason why he's like that is because he misses her so much, still, after all those years."
"I can understand, losing the love of your life is very painful." i looked down at my belly. "Do you think he'll come around once the baby is out?" i wonder.
Jesse took a deep breath, afraid to say something wrong.
"You know what i once heard? My father didn't want children, he thought they were loud and a distraction from his work... but when i was born, all he cared about was me." she said. "Maybe, just maybe, when he looks at what you've created together, he'll come around." she says. "He must be very heartless if he didn't."
Maybe she was right, maybe just maybe he'll come around, but that chance was very slim.
I was due any day now and suspense was killing me. What would contractions feel like? I've heard some awful stories.
"Can you just please relax?" Caitlin asked. "you're making me nervous."
I looked up at my friend. I was pacing through the room, worrying about what i might feel.
"You're thinking way too much." she said. "i'm sure it's not even going to be that bad, every pregnancy and labor is different."
"And that's why i'm so scared! you never know what's going to happen, or how long it'll take." i sighed deeply.
"Can i please add someone to the list of people i want to be there for the birth?" i wondered.
I invited Cisco, Barry and Caitlin to be there, as they watch their first metahuman baby enter the world. You know, if they wanted to.
"I'd like to have Jesse there." i said. "She's been of great support, she's honestly taking over the father role in this." i said.
"Ofcourse, but it can't be much more, dr Wells and i need all the space to help you."
"Anyone talking about me?" Harry said as he entered the room. "We were just talking about... baby stuff." Caitlin said.
Harry crossed his arms. "Oh, right."
"I wanted to add Jesse to the list of people to be there during the delivery." i said. Harry looked confused. "Why would you want her there? What does she have to do with this?"
"Everything." i said. "Cause she stepped up, she didn't have to, but she wanted to." i said. " She wanted to be there, she was there to see her baby brother or sister grow when you weren't."
Harry looked guilty. Something was on his mind, i could tell. I immediatly felt bad about what i said. "Never mind, i seem to mess up every time i try to talk to you." i said.
"Caitlin, i'll see you tomorrow."
"No, can you please wait?" Harry spoke. I inhaled deeply, was this the moment he was finally going to apologize for his badboy behaviour these past few months?
" Tell Jesse she can come."
Exhale. That was disappointing.
"Okay, let me grab my bag and..." my hands went towards my stomach as i felt a horrible stabbing pain. "You okay?" Caitlin ran up to me.
"Yeah i'm fine, it's just..." another stabbing sensation in my stomach.
"I think she's going into labor." Harry said. "Transfer her to the hospital room." he said. "I'll go get the others."
Caitlin nodded and took me by the hand. "Come on Amber, let's have your baby right now."
Jesse ran into the room. "Is the baby here yet!?" she wondered. "No, it's been about 9 hours." Cisco said. "Where have you been all this time?"
"I had to come from campus, i came as soon as i got the call." she said. She walked into the hospital room, and saw me, cramped together in the hospital bed.
"Oh god." Jesse said. "Are you alright?"
"It just feels like someone is trying to kill me but i'm doing just fine." i said, she could tell it was a lie.
"Alright i have to check to see how many cm you're dilated.
dr Wells grabbed some rubber gloves from the box and slid them on. "That looks painful." Cisco said. "I'm out." he darted out of the room.
Barry sat right next to me, holding my hand. "JESUS man!" i called out, as dr Wells entered his fingers down there to see how far i was."
Barry had a painful look on his face, he was glad to be a man.
"You can call Cisco back." Harry said as he pulled his hand back. "She's 10 cm dilated, which means you're ready to push."
I looked at Jesse, and then at Barry, this was the moment, the moment we've been waiting for. Was it going to be a boy or a girl? how much more did i have to suffer?
