Chapter Twenty-Six : Twin Genes
When they got back home, they found Carly and Gibby in the living room watching TV. "Guess what?" Sam announced.
"What?" Carly asked, looking up at her best friend.
"I'm pregnant... with twins!" Sam announced.
"Holy Cheese Whiz!" gasped Gibby.
"OMG! OMG!" was Carly's reaction. "How did this happen?!"
Sam looked at Freddie. "You tell her, Fredwad," Sam said with a laugh.
Freddie groaned. "No, thank you. I don't think we need to give details about how it happened," he said. "It happened because it's in Sam's genes."
Carly just kept mumbling "Wow" repeatedly. She was really stunned by the news. "Carls, snap out of it!" Sam exclaimed. Sam clapped her hands in front of Carly's face until eventually her best friend came to her senses.
"What did Freddie just say?" Carly asked.
"Never mind," Sam said as she gave Freddie a grin.
"Anyway, Sam, what did the doctor say? Is everything okay...?" Carly questioned.
"Sure, I'm great, if you call two kids taking up residence in your womb perfectly okay..."
Freddie shook his head when he heard Sam's response. "She's fine. She just needs rest, and nothing stressful. In fact, you should probably be laying down, babe. What do you want to eat? I will fix you something or order out," he offered.
"Ohhh wow, I could really learn to love this..." said Sam as Freddie began fussing over her, saying he would fix her food, order out, and wanted her to go lay down in bed.
"Okay, I'll go lay down in bed, if you go with me," she told him with a smirk. "I don't want to be lonely..."
"And as for food, just order something. Preferably something with a great deal of meat. Momma loves her meat," Sam replied.
Freddie laughed. "Alright. I will order then come up to join you," he told her. He would be sure to order something with a vast amount of meat.
Sam had a smile on her face as she ascended the stairs. Her first stop was the bathroom. After using the bathroom and washing her hands, she went to check on Baby Freddie. He was lying in his crib, looking at the mobile above his bed. "Hi, Sweetie," Sam said to him as she lifted him gently into her arms.
She carried him over to the bed and sat down. "I got something to tell you; something really important, so listen up," she said as she snuggled her baby boy. "You're about to get some competition here, cuz we just found out we are having twins in about 7 months. But I want you to know, you'll always be special to me and Daddy... cuz you are our firstborn, and you helped me and Daddy to get together..."
Baby Fredward made a cooing noise as his mother talked to him. Sam smiled, because he looked so much like his daddy and already his eyes had changed to brown. She kissed his little cheek and lay him down on the bed next to her. She lay down as well, wrapping an arm around the three-month-old baby. If she had to rest and take it easy over the next two or three weeks, it wouldn't be so bad as long as she had Freddie and baby Fredward nearby.
Meanwhile, Carly was downstairs talking to Freddie who had just finished his call to order the food. "I'm worried about Sam. Are you sure she's going to be okay?" Carly asked. "If you guys need anything; if there is anything at all I can do to help, just say the word."
"Me, too, man," Gibby said to Freddie. "I'll help, too."
"Guys, I promise I'll ask. As for now, she'll be fine. She just needs plenty of rest and no stress- that means her parents by the way. She can't take that. So if they come to the door, she's not here and they can not see her," Freddie warned.
"Alright, I think Gibby and I can handle Pam and Melvin and keep the two of them away for the time being... but what about Melanie? Would you like me to have a talk with her, Freddie?" Carly offered. Carly knew that Melanie needed to understand the situation and that Sam needed rest, peace, and relaxation at the current time.
"Actually, yes, Carls, that would be great," Freddie said. "I know Mel means well, but she doesn't understand how it is for Sam and especially right now. So if you could talk to her, I would appreciate it. I think she might understand better if it came from you."
"Okay, I'll call her then and try to explain," Carly promised Freddie. "She has no clue right now how much Sam needs to avoid stress. She's going to freak though, once she finds out Sam's having twins... in a good way I mean."
"I'd love for Mel to be happy about it, but you're right, she has no clue right now. Alright, thanks again. I'm going to head up to be with Sam. I'll be back when food gets here," Freddie said.
Meanwhile upstairs, Sam's cell phone was ringing. She answered it, seeing it was her twin calling. "Sam, what are you doing right now?" Melanie wondered.
"I'm lying down with baby Freddie. Why?" Sam asked softly.
"I want you to come have lunch with me, Mom, and Dad," Melanie responded.
Sam sighed heavily when she heard Melanie's request. "I don't think so, Mel. Freddie has already ordered us lunch. Anyway, I gotta go," Sam said and before Melanie could utter another word, Sam had ended the call. She turned off her phone so she would receive no further calls and once again settled down with her son.
Right now she didn't want to hear Melanie go on and on about their dad and how she should forgive him. She just wasn't ready for that and wasn't sure if she'd ever be. Why did he leave in the first place? She didn't know, nor did she want to stress about it. Freddie's dad had said to avoid stress. But that wasn't easy with Pam and Melvin Puckett for parents.
