Chapter Thirty-One - Baby A and Baby B

One such day, Adam came by to study with Sam to find that she didn't look too well. "Sam, what it it?" he asked with concern, immediately coming to her side as she lay in the bed.

"I need Freddie," Sam moaned in pain. "I think the babies are coming."

"You don't need Freddie. I can take you to the hospital. We have to get you there right away," spoke Adam as he carefully lifted her in his arms.

Sam began cussing Adam out as he carried her downstairs and out to his car. "Call Freddie NOW," Sam kept insisting, but Adam wasn't listening. He started the car and headed off toward the hospital.

Freddie was at work; he had set things up, so that Sam could finish her schoolwork from at home. He worked during the day, but he was with her all the rest of the time. He was nervous about the twins coming as well as Sam's health and well-being. Sam didn't have her cell phone with her or she would have called Freddie or even Carly who was babysitting little Fredward that day. By the time they arrived at the hospital, Sam's water had broke. "The babies are coming!" she cried out as Adam had parked the car, then got out to get Sam and lift her into his arms.

"Adam, call Freddie," Sam begged. She was in a lot of pain and really needed Freddie by her side.

Adam didn't reply. He was taking Sam into the hospital. "Lady in labor!" he cried out as some nurses came running.

A contraction ripped through Sam, so she wasn't able to speak as the nurses frantically got her set up in a birthing room on the maternity ward. Little Freddie had been born very quickly and it seemed as though the twins wanted to be born super-fast as well.

Freddie continued to work, but when he was on a break, he dialed Sam's cell to try and reach her. He wanted to make sure that she didn't need anything when he came home that evening. Sam's food cravings had been out of this world since she was carrying two babies instead of one.

Standing outside Sam's hospital room, Adam put a call into his employer. "Sam's having the twins," he told Mrs. Benson.

"Stay there... I want every detail," Marissa Benson said to Adam. She couldn't wait for the happy day when she had the twins and baby Freddie all to herself once she proved that Sam was an unfit mother. Marissa was certain that Adam would be the one to help her bring Samantha Puckett-Benson down.

"Okay, I gotta go now..." Adam said, hurriedly ending the conversation. He could hear Sam crying out for Freddie in the nearby hospital room.

"Somebody call my husband Freddie Benson... and I need my doctor - Dr. Jonathon Benson!" Sam insisted.

"Calm down, honey. Everything will be fine," the nurse tried to reassure her.

Sam grabbed the nurse and nearly strangled her. "Call my husband now!" Sam screamed out. "Or I'm going to jump out of this hospital bed and slap some sense into you!"

The nurse knew that Sam meant business so she got on the phone to call Freddie. Since Freddie was attempting to call Sam at the same time, it took the nurse to Freddie's voice mail. "Mr. Benson, this is a nurse calling from Memorial Hospital. Your wife is in labor and you need to get to the hospital ASAP," the nurse stated.

After the making the call, the nurse then paged Dr. Benson. In the meantime, Adam had returned to Sam's side. "Is everything okay, sweetie?" he asked her, taking her hand into his.

Sam jerked her hand away, slapping Adam promptly on the arm. "Listen, ASSHOLE, it's your fault Freddie isn't here with me now. And NOOOO, everything is notalright. I'm about to push two kids from my body... and my husband isn't HERE! Since he's not, if these babies start coming and the pain gets real bad, I am taking it out on YOU!" Sam yelled at the top of her lungs.

When Sam didn't answer her phone, Freddie got worried. He hung up and saw that he had a voicemail. He checked his messages. When he heard what the nurse said, he grabbed his keys. He left work as fast as he could and rushed over to the hospital.

Just before Freddie arrived at Memorial Hospital, Dr. Benson entered Sam's room to check on her. "How are we doing?" he asked Sam cheerfully, seeing a distressed expression upon her face.

"I'm in a lot of pain. Where are the drugs?" spoke Sam. "And more importantly, where is Freddie?"

"The nurse called and left a message on Freddie's voicemail; he should be here shortly," Jonathon spoke in reassurance. "But before we give you any pain medication, Sam, I need to check you to see how far your labor is progressing."

Jonathon glanced over at Adam. "I don't know who you are... but please leave the room. I need to examine in my daughter-in-law," Jonathon spoke.

"He's my biology lab partner," replied Sam as she was squeezing Adam's hand in a bone-crushing grip as an intense contraction hit.

"OMG! That freakin hurts! Give me some drugs nowwwwwwwwwwwwww!" Sam yelled, looking over at Adam like she wanted to cause him some sort of irreparable damage. Adam looked extremely frightened.

Adam managed to tear his hand away from Sam's painful grip. "I will just sit and wait in the hall," Adam said, thankful to escape from this crazy scene. Adam hurried out the door just as Dr. Benson began to examine Sam. He stood in the hallway, looking quite freaked out.

Freddie stopped at the nurse's desk to ask where they had taken his wife. "Excuse me, where can I find Samantha Benson?" he asked.

"She's in birthing room number 8," replied the nurse at the desk. "I'll take you there."

Adam was lurking outside Sam's hospital room in the hallway but disappeared around the corner when the nurse came by with Freddie. Dr. Benson had just finished examining Sam when Freddie and the nurse entered the room. "Freddie!" Sam gasped when she saw her handsome husband enter.

Jonathon smiled at his son. "Freddie, you're just in time to hear the news. I just examined Sam," spoke Dr. Benson.

Freddie was relieved once he was standing at Sam's side. He gave her a reassuring smile, then he turned to look at his dad. "Is everything alright? "he asked in concern.

"I was just about to explain to Sam..." replied Jonathon, as he saw Sam reaching for Freddie's hand.

"Sam's nearly fully-dialated, but I am afraid that Baby A is in the wrong position. The baby is coming feet-first and should be positioned head-down to ensure a safe birth. With the postions of the twins, I don't think it's safe that we attempt a vaginal delivery. I think a c-section would be our safest bet," Dr. Benson explained.

"Ohhh no," Sam gasped, shaking her head. "I don't want to be cut open like a ham!"

"I've delivered hundreds of babies, Sam. The position of the Baby A could be quite dangerous. The baby could get stuck in the birth cannal, causing major problems for both of you," said Jonathon. "Oxygen could get cut off to the twins or worse, we could lose one. We have no other choice. We have to deliver by c-section."

Sam looked at Freddie with big, terrified blue eyes. She'd never had an operation before. Sam was deathly afraid of hospitals, dentists, and doctors. She had no idea what a c-section would be like. "Will I be asleep or awake?" Sam asked fearfully.

"You can be awake, but the anesthesiologist will put medication in your spine which will numb you from the waist down," replied Dr. Benson.

Sam winced, thinking of the very big needle they'd surely use to administer the anesthesia. "Freddie can be with me?" Sam then asked hopefully.

"As soon as we have you settled, he can be right there at your side," Jonathon promised.

"Okay then ... Well, okay..." Sam said softly, still extremely frightened and struggling not to cry.

Freddie kissed Sam tenderly on the lips. "I'll be there as soon as I can. Don't worry; my dad knows what he's doing," he said gently. He knew that Sam was in safe and capable hands with his dad, despite the fact that Sam required a C-section.

Sam was very quiet, almost in shock as they got her prepared for surgery. A nurse came in and started an IV, then the medical staff got ready to take her into the operating room. "Freddie," she cried out, but for now they had to be separated. They needed to give her anesthesia and get her fully prepped before Freddie would be allowed to enter the operating room.

Sam closed her eyes and tried to think of something pleasant when a needle was inserted into her spinal cord which would allow her to go through the c-section while awake. Tears threatened to spill as they got her settled on the operating table and got ready to begin the c-section. Only then was Freddie allowed in.

Freddie hated leaving Sam alone, but he knew he had to. When he was allowed to go into the operating room, he settled himself right next to his wife. "It's okay, Sam. I am right here," he promised when he saw how terrified she looked.

The C-Section moved very fast as the surgeon assisted Dr. Benson with delivering the babies. Soon baby B was delivered and to Sam's relief, she heard the blessed sound of the newborn's cry. "It's a girl!" Freddie's dad announced before handing off the tiny baby girl to a nurse. Sam tried to look at her new baby daughter, but really couldn't see anything from her position of lying on the table and having a curtain in the way. Not even a minute later, Baby A followed, already named Samantha by her parents. Baby Samantha screamed and protested loudly as she was handed off to the nurse.

Dr. Benson was beaming. "I have TWO healthy granddaughters!" he said to Freddie and Sam with happiness.

"Okay, sew me up and let me hold my babies," Sam insisted. She was uncomfortable, but not really in any pain. She just wanted the whole thing over with so she could see and cuddle her new little daughters.

Freddie was so relieved that both of the girls were healthy. He smiled proudly when he got a glimpse of the babies. Samantha and her sister were absolutely perfect.

Sam looked at Freddie, totally amazed at the birth of their daughters. The doctors were now busily sewing Sam's incision closed. A nurse brought baby Samantha to Freddie after cleaning her and wrapping her in a soft blanket. Samantha immediately stopped crying the minute she was in her daddy's arms. Sam smiled, seeing Freddie holding their tiny newborn daughter. She wondered what little Fredward would think of his two little sisters.

Freddie felt his heart melt at the sight of sweet Baby Samantha in his arms. She was beautiful just like her mother. He held her tenderly. "Hi, sweetie," he said softly as he cuddled the baby girl.

It wasn't long before the doctors had Sam's incision closed and they were taking her back to her hospital room. A nurse followed, carrying the firstborn of the twins. After Sam was settled into her hospital bed, the nurse handed baby B to Sam while Freddie continued holding Samantha. "I think I just came up with the perfect name for her," Sam said, looking at her beautiful infant daughter.

"I want to name her after Carly, my best friend. How does Sharley Michelle Benson sound?" Sam asked Freddie.

In the hallway, Adam was still lurking around. He was gathering information for Marissa Benson. He soon put in a call to her, telling her that the twins were born and both were doing well. "As soon as Sam's recovered, we will go ahead with our plan," Marissa said to Adam on the phone. Adam agreed with his employer, yet he had fallen hard for Sam; he didn't want to see her hurt.

Freddie smiled. He was sitting at Sam's bedside, holding baby Samantha. "Sharley- I like it," he said. "As long as she doesn't grow up to be as boy crazy as her Aunt Carly."

Sam laughed softly when Freddie said Carly was boy-crazy and that he didn't want their little daughter Sharley to end up like her. "Carly should have stayed with Gibby, he's a great guy and he really cares about her," Sam responded. "I really need to have a talk with that girl."

Just then Adam peeked into the room, seeing Sam and Freddie snuggling the babies. "Is everything alright?" Adam asked, giving Sam a smile.

"Just great," Sam replied. "...Now that I am no longer in labor and that jank pain has gone away. Adam, why don't you call Carly and Melanie, and let them know I've had the twins and everything is ok?"

"Sure, I can do that... Do you need anything, Sam? Is there anything I can do for you?" Adam asked, beaming at Sam because he was so totally in love with her.

"No, we are good," Sam said, waving Adam away. All she wanted was to be alone with Freddie and their baby girls.

Adam left the room to make the calls to Melanie and Carly. He was disappointed and saddened that Sam didn't want him around, but Sam was too busy cooing at the babies and bonding with them and Freddie that she didn't even notice.

"I am so happy, Fredward. I love these babies sooo much!" Sam spoke, feeling waves of happiness and love for Freddie and their little family. They hadn't planned to have three babies so soon, but Sam was ecstatic anyway. They were so totally blessed.

Freddie was so happy with his new family as well. "They are so perfect," he said softly as he gazed at his girls. "You did it Sam. You brought us these beautiful baby girls."

Sam grinned at Freddie. "I seem to remember YOU had something to do with it, too... on our wedding night. We had that wine... and well, you know what happened after that..." Sam reminded with a tiny blush. She then gazed at her two baby girls, totally in awe of them. They were a family of five now. How could that be possible?

Meanwhile, Adam was placing a call to Carly. She was watching baby Freddie at the apartment she shared with Spencer. Melanie was there as well, spending time with Spencer. Soon BOTH Carly and Melanie were on the phone, squealing with happiness as Adam told them the news of the twins' birth. "I'm an Aunt... AGAIN!" Melanie cried out in excitement.

"Let's go to the hospital... NOW! We gotta see those babies!" Carly exclaimed. Adam's eardrum nearly popped as he listened to Carly and Melanie squeal and carry on.

"Yeah, why don't you guys come on over? I gotta go do something now and won't be here at the hospital much longer," Adam spoke, knowing he had lots of work to do for Mrs. Benson, his employer. Soon, Freddie's psychotic mother would put her diabolical plan into motion.

After talking to Adam on the phone, Melanie and Carly got into the car with Spencer and baby Freddie in tow. They could barely contain their excitement as they drove to the hospital. While they were on their way, Melanie called her mom, letting Pam know that the babies had been born. Pam was happy and relieved when she heard the news.

"Melvin, Sam had the babies!" Pam told her husband after she had ended her conversation with Melanie. "We now have two new beautiful granddaughters. Twins. I can't believe it... just like Sam and Melanie." Pam wanted to go to the hospital to see her daughter and meet her new baby granddaughters. but Melvin hesitated. He didn't know if he would be welcome.

"We have to go," Pam insisted. They had stayed away from Sam the entire pregnancy so not to upset her. She felt as though they could not stay away a moment longer.

"Melvin, I am going to the hospital to see Sam and the babies - with or without you."
