Silent Hill: Forgotten Sister
Chapter 12: Best Man
3:10 a.m.
Friday; September 19, 2011
It is three in the morning and I was sitting with Jeff in his truck, at a gas station, drinking a beer. I hate drinking but it was the only thing that had replaced my weed. I need alcohol to get the stress and pain away. I was on my third beer but I wasn't buzzed yet which made pissed me off. Quickly, I chugged the rest of my Budlight, smashed the can and threw it on the floor. I grabbed another beer from the box and sat back.
"Whoa dude," commented Jeff. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," I lied. "I'm just tired."
I opened the beer and chugged about half of it. Suddenly, I was starting to feel a little buzzed.
"Do you want to stay the night with me tonight?" asked my green eyed friend.
"Please?" I begged. "I don't want to go home a mess and start a fight. I am exhausted."
"Don't worry buddy," said Jeff. "I'll take care of you."
"Thank you," I replied as I drank more of my beer.
I burped and it hurt my chest a little.
"Excuse me," I said.
"So have you figured out what you wanted to do?" asked Jeff.
"Do what?" I questioned.
I chugged the rest of beer, smashed the can, threw it to the ground and grabbed a fifth beer.
"The sword? The emblem? Erika?" questioned Jeff.
"Erika?" I questioned. "That bitch!"
I opened my beer and drank some.
"That bitch," I commented. "She's a bitch and she's mean. I hope she dies."
"Whoa there!" said my green eyed friend with surprise. "Don't you think that is a little too far?"
"Not really," I stated. "I wish Erika was better and calmer and cooler. A girl that everyone would want to be around with."
I chugged my beer. The disgusting taste of alcohol, I thought. It burns.
"You had too much tonight," said Jeff as he grabbed the remaining beers. "You need to start feeling better so you can go back to work."
My green eyed friend got out of his car and threw the beers in the back. He came back in and started his truck.
"Let's go home," said Jeff,
"YEEEE!" I said loudly.
. . .
Jeff and I were at his apartment loft. I was sitting on his couch, drunk, with my sixth beer in my hand. Jeff was on the other couch playing with the sword and emblem. He was doing research on his laptop while I did nothing but get even more drunk.
"What do you think this means?" asked Jeff. "The sword? The emblem?"
"It meant that our family were warriors and badasses and shit," I replied. "The emblem can be a secret emblem from a cult or whatever but I don't believe in that bull shit. I'm a proud strong Catholic!"
"Yea," giggled Jeff.
"Or or or," I said out loud. "It can mean demons and angels. That sword can be used for demons and shit."
"Uhh yea about that," commented my green eyed friend. "Demons and angels don't exist."
"Unless you're Erika!" I busted out laughing.
Jeff shook his head and continued to do his research. Me, on the other hand, I had to go take a piss.
"I'll be back," I said. "I have to go take a piss."
"Thanks for sharing," stated Jeff.
"Anytime," I said loudly as I stumbled my way to the bathroom.
I entered the bathroom and closed the door a little. Suddenly, I fell on the floor, hitting my head on the toilet. Everything went black.
. . .
12:37 p.m.
I woke up.
"Fuck I am so tired and beat," I muttered to myself.
I rubbed my eyes and looked around the room. I noticed I was in Jeff's apartment loft, laying on his couch. Suddenly, I felt a sharp pain in my stomach.
"BLEH!" I yelled as I threw up in a bucket that was by my side.
I looked at the bucket and it was disgusting. Nothing but beer and my breakfast. Gross!
I lied back on the couch and closed my eyes.
"Well well," I heard a familiar. "Look who finally wakes up."
"UGH!" I cried. "TOO LOUD!"
I quickly turned towards the bucket and threw up.
"BLEH!" I yelled.
"Gross," chuckled Jeff.
"UGH!" I complained. "What happened?"
"Well," Jeff said softly. "You went to go take a leak and suddenly I heard a loud thump noise. I quickly went to go check on you and you were out cold, with your pants wet."
"Oh..." I said embarrassingly.
I sat up, closed my eyes and held my head.
"What time is it?" I groaned.
"Twelve forty," replied Jeff.
My eyes shot open.
"Shit!" I yelled. "I have to go home! I have to get ready for work!"
It was a mistake yelling because it hurt me head.
"I made breakfast," informed Jeff. "Do you want some before I take you?"
"No thanks," I said. "I have to go cause I have to shower and get ready for work. Plus, I am probably in trouble."
"Don't worry about that," said Jeff. "I called your parents a few hours ago to tell them you're with me."
I sighed. I'll still get in trouble, I thought. But not as much.
"Thank you," I said.
"No problem," said my green eyed friend. "But um, I've been thinking. Do you want to take that sword and emblem home?"
"Sure," I said. "Why not?"
I was hungover but I decided I still wanted to take the sword and emblem home. I wanted to show my parents what I found and I am going to question them about it. I really need answers.
. . .
Jeff was driving me home and I was sitting on the passenger side with the sword and emblem on my lap.
"Did you ever find information on that sword and emblem?" I asked as I was examining the sword.
"Nope," replied Jeff. "I tried looking up different water symbols and sword crosses but nothing came up except anime sword crosses. And for the emblem, nothing. I even searched weird emblems."
The sword was pretty heavy and honestly, it looked super badass. I hope after telling my parents about this, they let me keep this so I can use it as a wall decoration.
"That's okay," I said. "I'm going to question my parents about it when I get home."
"Good luck with that," said Jeff as he turned on my street.
My green eyed best friend pulled up to my house. I grabbed the sword and the emblem and wrapped it up in Erika's old clothes.
"Again, good luck with telling your parents," said Jeff.
"Thanks," I said. "And thank you for helping me out and taking care of me. I appreciate it."
"Anytime," informed my green eyed friend. "That's what friends are for."
I smiled and I got out of the car. As soon as I entered the gate, Jeff drove off.
Before I entered the house, I decided to hide the sword and emblem in the back of my trunk. I know I made a big deal how I was going to confront my parents as soon as possible about it but at the same time I am feeling scared. I do not want to fuck this up. I rather wait until I am sober and feeling better.
I entered the house.
"I'm home," I called out. "I'm going to the kitchen!"
I made my way into the kitchen and I noticed my dad standing by the counter eating a sandwich. I realized why he wasn't at work today because he is off on Fridays and Saturdays. Well, that sucks because I don't see mom in here, or mom around for that matter, and I was kind of hoping to grow a pair and tell my parents about Erika. I guess I'll just tell my dad since right now is the only perfect opportunity I get to see him.
"Good afternoon dad," I greeted.
My dad gave me a weird look.
I quickly ignored his look and opened the fridge door. I grabbed a bottle of cranberry juice. For some odd reason, cranberry juice helps me with hangovers.
"How come you didn't tell us you were going out?" Adam asked strictly. "We talked about this before Alex!"
"I'm sorry dad," I said. "I was just having a good time with Jeff and I- I'm sorry."
"Going out while being sick?" questioned the retired colonel angrily. "I'm starting to think you're not sick. You're faking it."
Well shit, I thought. If dad finds out I've been faking my sickness he's going to tell Randy and Randy will fire me. My dad seriously shows no mercy and will do whatever he can to fuck up my life. I had to think of something smart and quick.
I placed the juice bottle on the counter and quickly walked out of the back door. I leaned over the balcony and made hurling noises, hoping my dad would buy that, and then I stuck my finger down my throat. Luckily, I was able to throw up.
"Jesus Christ!" I yelled.
I wiped my mouth and went back inside.
"If you don't believe me, you can go check," I informed as I got a cup out of the cabinet.
"No thank you," my dad said as he shook his head. "I believe you now."
Thank God! I thought. Thank you so much! Now please give me strength to talk to my dad about Erika.
"Can I ask you something dad?" I asked while getting a glass of cranberry juice and changing the subject.
"What is it?" asked Adam.
"Last night, I have been thinki- I began.
Suddenly the house phone rang. Great, I thought. Just great. Right when I was about to confront my dad, the fucking phone rings. This shit better be important. If not, I'm going to fucking rage.
"Hold on," said Adam.
I took a drink from my cup. The taste was sour and gross but that was because of the vomit. Hopefully my hangover cures before work.
"Hello Frank!" greeted my dad with a smile.
Okay so maybe this is important, I thought. My dad is smiling and it has been years ever since I have seen him smiled. By the way, I know this is Frank Coleridge because that is my dad's very close friend and friends make other friends smile.
"No no, I am not busy," lied Adam. "I have time to talk. What's up?"
Fucking rude, I thought. I was talking to my dad. Whatever, I'll just go watch TV and wait till dad finishes talking to Frank.
I entered the lounge and plopped down on the couch with my cup of juice. I turned the tv on and began to flip through the channels. What is my dad and Frank talking about? I thought. Ooh! Adventure Time is on! Ooh! Ooh!
"Ha ha," I laughed. "I love Adventure Time."
Not even a minute passed and my dad was already yelling for me. I rolled my eyes in annoyance.
"Hey Alex!" I heard my dad yell as he entered the lounge.
"Yes sir?" I asked.
"Frank wants to talk to you," replied Adam.
"About what?" I asked.
"I don't know," snapped Adam. "That is why he needs to talk to you."
My dad tossed me the phone. I quickly caught it.
"Hello?" I answered.
"Hi Alex," greeted the man from the other line. "This is Frank Coleridge. Remember me?"
"Of course I do!" I said with joy. "You're like an uncle to me. How could I forget about you?"
Frank chuckled.
"Well I called because I wanted to ask you something Alex," informed the man from the other line.
"Go for it," I said. "I'll do anything."
"Good," chuckled Frank. "Well to start this off, Anne said that her husband's best man left due to some problems with the husband."
"That sucks," I commented. "So there is no best man?"
"I know it sucks but she asked if you could do it for her because she really wants you too," said Frank. "Anne would ask you herself but she doesn't have time. I mean she's busy with work and all the wedding planning and the wedding since it is a month away."
I kept quiet. Wow, I thought. I never thought I'd be the best man except for Jeff. But Anne? I'm surprised she still remembers me. It's the Coleridge family. I would never say no to them even though there were ups and downs back then.
"I'll do it," I finally said. "Anne is like an older sister to me and I really don't want to disappoint her."
"I knew you'd do it," Frank said happily. "You're going to make Anne a very happy girl. Just seeing the both of you together makes me jubilant."
I chuckled.
"Yea," I agreed. "Um, is there anything that I need to get?"
"Just a suit and dress up shoes," replied Frank. "Anne has the tie ready for you."
"Awesome!" I commented. "Thank you so much and thank you for calling. I really appreciate it and I'll see you next month."
I hung up.
My dad smiled at me.
"What?" I asked.
"You and Anne, partners in crime again," replied Adam.
In the beginning I know I didn't want to go to the wedding but I changed my mind. I need to grow up and put my differences with Anne aside. I was just going to the wedding and leave the moment it's done. Well, since I am the best man and supposedly very important, I might as well stay a little longer. Another thing is, this is the first time in years since I have seen my dad happy for me. He really cares a lot about Anne like she is his own daughter. He probably cares about Anne more than Erika. It kind of makes me sick.
"Yea," I agreed. "Partners in crime again."
"So what was it that you were going to ask me Alex?" Adam finally remembered.
My dad was too damn happy. I can't piss him off about Erika. The fact that I ruined my dad's day by mentioning Erika, I can't do it. I'll have to wait after the wedding I suppose.
"I've been thinking about Uncle James and I wanna go visit him before or after the wedding." I lied. "I really want to go see him."
"Sure," said Adam. "You're a grown man and you can do whatever you want. Just tell me and everything will be fine."
"Thank you sir," I said.
. . .
So I pussied out. My dad is really happy and I don't want to fuck up his day with one little question. Honestly I am very glad that Frank asked me to be the best man. Usually the best man deals with the groom and I don't even know this guy. Well who cares! I am the best man! I would have gave in anyways and said yes if Anne asked me. She would go into her fake crying attitude and I'll feel sorry and I have no choice but to do what she wants. She's spoiled!
After getting something to eat, I went upstairs to go shower and get ready for work. I've been thinking, maybe I should be old school and go to the library to read a few books on weird emblems and swords. Hopefully I can find something out. If not, then I have to go talk to Judge Holloway, Mayor Bartlett or Dr. Fitch to see if they know anything.
I entered the bathroom and turned on the shower while I was getting undressed. Since I found out that I am the best man, my stress level went down a bit. I am going to try to make today my free and no worry day. I'll deal with Erika and the buried items tomorrow. Maybe later on, I'll give Lisa a call and see if she wants to hang out.
