Day 5 / July 25th / Thursday - Lover's spat. Not everything is sunshine and daisies.

Be a Queen

Toothiana was yelling at him. Pitch didn't really understand why, but he had given up trying to understand women years ago. But when he heard the phrase 'marriage contracts' in the middle of her rant, he tuned in to what she was saying.

". . .you chose me! So why are you still going through these betrothal contracts from all of the other kingdoms?!" She huffed angrily. Pitch merely turned a disapproving frown on her.

"Toothiana. You must understand, not every document is clearly labeled at the top of the page-"

"That doesn't excuse the fact that these other kingdoms are still sending you contracts! Why when they know they have no chance to-"

"That's the thing, Tooth!" Pitch cut in. "They believe they have a chance. That's why they keep sending the contracts. Yes, I chose you, but that isn't valid in their eyes!"

"Well, it should!" Tooth tried to argue.

"Well, maybe if you started to act like the queen that you are instead of the figment of imagination some children believe you to be, the other kingdoms might recognize you as my queen!" Silence followed his outburst, Tooth's stunned gaze lifting to meet Pitch's.

"Is that really how you-"

"That is how court works. Running a kingdom means you have two sides of you. The one you use for family and friends must be different than your royal one!" This statement caused the fire to spark up in Tooth.

"Can't the two be the same?! It's worked perfectly fine for me since I gained my wings!"

Pitch grabbed her upper arms and was so tempted to shake some sense into her. "Don't you see? It doesn't work! They don't recognize you as a queen! They never have! The other kingdoms think you're a joke, that you're a fake queen! Why do you think they've never visited you before?!" Tooth looked at him, disbelief in her gaze.

"I see how it is. You're just trying to change me, aren't you?!" she accused, leaving Pitch to just stare dumbly at her.

"Yes. That's completely it. The ONLY reason that I pursued you was to break you and mould you into the image of what my perfect queen would be. You're just toosmart for me to fool you, Toothiana," he bit back sarcastically. Pitch's expression hardened before he bowed to the Fairy Queen. "I shall take my leave of you, madam, for I now see how you truly view me." Pitch turned and disappeared before she could muster up a reply at his retort. His need to strangle someone was too great right now, and he didn't dare lay a hand on Tooth.

But now? He'd just have to clear his mind by doing some more paperwork. Work waits for no one, after all.

This night was going to be a very long one.
