Say You Love Me
Chapter 11
That fucking hurt! I heard Gemma yelling at my mom as she helped me up.
"What the hell are you doing here Shay? I saw everything! What the fuck are you doing with Jackson Teller huh?!" my mom yelled at me. I spit the blood that had pooled in my mouth out towards her feet.
"Nice to see you too, Mom. Have a nice weekend?" She pointed her finger in my face.
"Don't you get fucking smart with me right now! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING WITH JACKSON TELLER?!"
Hey Parker do you need any help over there? I heard another sheriff ask her. She turned her head, nodded and her attention was right back on me. I smirked at her as I remembered what went down in the chapel. I needed to be strong for Jackson and myself. I was done being used by someone I was supposed to call family. I'm done with this shit. I'm not giving her anything.
"I got here earlier this morning to go get breakfast with Gemma. We were about to leave before all this shit went down with the guys and we couldn't go anywhere because YOU were already on your way here," I told her. She was still pissed off as she looked at my appearance.
"I don't believe a word you just said. You are wearing a SONS shirt for Christ Sake!"
"I spilled coffee on my shirt and couldn't get it out! Gemma found me another one to wear. NOTHING is going on with Jackson and me. You need to relax," I told her.
"My old man is the President of this club, I had to stay here. I'm sorry if Shay being here caused you to think any less of your daughter. She's been helping me out around the garage in the office for a few weeks now." Gemma said. Thank God for this woman I swear. She didn't have to lie for me like that.
"What makes you think I give two shits about what you have to say about my daughter? She's none of your concern."
"Seems to me like she's being treated like a live in baby sitter for your youngest but hey, you can call it whatever you want," I saw Gemma smirk with her response.
Mom pulled back her fist and was about to hit Gemma in the stomach but Gemma caught her fist.
"Ah ah ah, I wouldn't lay a hand on me with those officers still sitting over there. You never know, I might just press charges if that were to happen. They've already seen you lay hands on your little girl here, who happens to be a friend of the club," Gemma said as Mom got in her face.
"Fuck you, Gemma. Shay, you're coming with me. We are gonna take a little trip to the hospital. If you've just been 'helping out' with Gemma, you should have no problem being checked out by a gynecologist." I KNEW she'd take it there. I'm not doing that shit. Fuck her, I'm done!
"I'm not going. I don't have to submit to an exam if I don't want to and you can do what you want but you can't force me to do this." I told her. I have had enough of this shit. She moved away from Gemma but was now in my face.
"You get your ass in that car and get to the hospital or you can pack your shit and get the fuck out of my house before I get back tonight. I refuse to be associated with this shit and if you want to keep up this…whatever the hell it is that you are doing with the Sons Of Anarchy, I'm done with you, and that means that you stay away from Stephanie too," she told me. I took a deep breath. Maybe it would be good for her to actually be a mother to Steph and do all the shit around the house that I had to do for years. The club is here for whatever you need…Jax's words radiated in my head.
"I. Am. Not. Doing. It," I told her turning towards Gemma.
"Gemma, could you give me a ride? I need to get to the sheriff's house and pack my shit."
"Sure can Darlin'."
"Oh yeah, and where exactly are you going to stay? None the sheriffs will help you. They are my people, not yours. Where you gonna go in this town?! You have NOWHERE and you have NO ONE!"
"That's where you're wrong. Shay, you're staying with me sweet heart. Come on, let's go get your stuff." Gemma said walking towards her truck.
"I guess that's settled. I'll be out before you get back," I told her and I started to walk away. If I'm done with this shit that means that I'm cutting ties with her, this was it. I turned around, took a deep breath, and gave her a hug.
"You will NEVER keep Steph away from me… Oh and Brenda, you lay hands on me again, you lay a hand on Steph or treat her with anything less then she deserves…I'll have the club put a bullet in the back of your head," I said with a kiss on her cheek. I walked as fast as I could without running and got into Gemma's truck. I looked in the rearview mirror to see Brenda standing there with a shocked look still plastered across her face.
I gave Gemma directions to my moms house and told her to keep the truck running and that I wouldn't be long. I grabbed trash bags from the kitchen and headed upstairs to my room. I tore everything off of hangers from my closet and my dresser then pushed everything into bags. I opened another suitcase I had underneath my bed and threw all of my shoes in and zipped it. I grabbed a safe, that my dad had given me a long time ago, with money that I had stashed ever since I was eleven and stuffed everything that was in there into my backpack. There was about five grand that I had saved over the years. I grabbed all my extra school shit and put it in my backpack along with my laptop. Shit, I need to let Steph know what's going on. I'd have to write her a letter and leave it underneath her pillow. I took a piece of paper from my desk and started writing.
Stephanie,
Mom found out about Jackson, wanted me to let her everything that was or wasn't happening between the two of us. I didn't say anything and she kicked me out of the house and told me to stay away from you. I know how crazy she can get when she's pissed off. If she does anything to you or tries anything, you call Gemma, or me and we will come and get you. I'm leaving you with her number just in case mom disconnects my phone. I am done with her controlling me. I can't take it anymore. I love you Steph and I won't let anything happen to you. You may be my little sister, but I have raised you since you were born and I hope that you remember that. I love you… never forget that. Thank you for keeping my secret.
Love
Shay
I folded the letter and slide $1500 inside the envelope along with it. I ran to her bedroom and slid it underneath her pillow. I loved her with all my heart but I had to do this. I threw all my bags down the stairs and opened the front door. Gemma was sitting on the front step.
"Need any help sweetheart?"
"Just with my bags," I told her. She walked into the house and grabbed the rest of my bags as we loaded everything into her trunk. We took off to Jax's house so that I could grab my truck before we headed to Gemma's to get me settled in. After all my clothes were put away in her spare bedroom, Gemma and I cooked dinner. We had just started eating when she asked me what I said to my mother that made her look like she had just seen pigs fly.
"I told her that if she'd put her hands on me again or if she caused any harm to Steph, that I'd have the club put a bullet in the back of her head."
"I see I taught you well."
"That you did. Thank you for letting me stay here Gemma, I was just going to stay at Jackson's but I really didn't want to be alone."
"I know that sweet heart, same here and its no problem at all. Jax told me to look out for you and there was no way I was leaving you with that crazy bitch. You sure your sister will be alright?" she asked me.
"No, I am not. I left her some money in case she needed it along with your phone number in case Brenda shuts off my phone. Told her to call if anything happened."
"Making sure she's covered even when you're not around? That's an Old Lady move that you pulled off by yourself Darlin'. Well done."
"Thanks Gem. You mind if I take a shower and head to bed? It's been a very long day…" I asked her.
"Go on ahead. I think I'm going to do the same actually."
"Night Gemma," I said as I gave her a hug and headed to the guest bedroom. I took along shower and crawled into bed. I couldn't believe all the shit that had just happened in the span of one damn day. I felt myself starting to cry. No tears Babe… as Jackson's voice filtered through my mind. No tears, I could do this. I can do this. I am doing this. Go through school, check Jax's house every few days to make sure everything was all right, try to keep things as normal as possible, and Jax would be home in a few weeks. I'll be seventeen and Jax will be in prison. I honestly didn't give a shit but Thanksgiving was right around the corner and with Gemma being as invested in her family as she was, I knew for a fact that it would break Gemma's heart have an empty house on a holiday like that.
Fucking Christ was my last thought before sleep had finally consumed me.
It was a week before either of us had heard from Jax or Clay. I was working with Gemma at the garage to kill some time until Jax got back. I was in the middle of finishing my algebra homework when Gemma's phone rang.
"Yeah I accept the charges," I heard her say.
"Hey Babe. Everything okay?"
"Yeah, I'll let her know," Gemma looked at me from the kitchen and let me know that Jax should be calling me any minute now. My phone was in the guest room.
"Thanks Gem," I told her as I ran to answer the call. I heard my phone going off before I could answer it. I jumped across the bed and answered it just in time.
"Hello? Jackson?"
"This is an inmate calling…" shut the hell up and get to Jackson.
"Yes, I accept the charges."
"Hey, Darlin'," I heard him say. God, I miss him so much!
"Hi, Jax! What took you and Clay so long to call home?"
"Fucking Stahl wouldn't give us any privileges. It's horseshit."
"Are you safe at least?"
"Yeah the guys are fine. For now. I don't think I'll be safe from you mom though."
"Shit! What did she do!?"
"Nothing much. Just grilled me about you, threatened to file charges against me."
"I didn't tell her anything. I was at the clubhouse to get breakfast with Gemma. That's all she needs to know. What did you tell her?"
"I didn't say anything. Just let her know that for her to charge me with anything she needed to have proof. Which I told her she didn't have and would never have regardless of how hard she tried. You should have seen her eyes pop out of her head. It was funny." I laughed as he finished telling me what happened.
"I love you so much, Jackson. You have no idea how much I miss you."
"I know, I love you too Babe. I'm sorry I had to spend your birthday in here."
I looked at the calendar on the dresser and saw that today indeed was my birthday.
"Jackson, I honestly forgot all about it. I just want you home."
"Two weeks at the most and I'll be right there with you. How's everything going with Gemma?"
"She's doing the best she can. She really would like her boys back for Thanksgiving."
"That might be cutting it close, but we will try… So you're staying at Gemma's permanently then?"
"I don't have anywhere to go, Jax. Brenda told me that if I didn't submit to a pelvic exam then I had to pack my shit and leave. So that's what I did. Told me that I'd never see Steph again. Gemma said I handle myself in Old Lady fashion when I told Brenda what would happen if she laid a hand on Steph or me again. It's handled. I'll just have to save up and get a place."
"You're moving in with me. Stay put at Gemma's until I get out but then we are moving your stuff to my place. Don't worry. She won't touch you again."
"Jax, you don't' have to do this…"
"Don't even, alright?! You're moving in with me and that's final."
"Okay! Okay! I'll let Gemma know."
"Is Steph going to be okay?"
"I left her a letter explaining what happened. I gave her some cash and Gemma's number, I told her to call me or Gem if anything went wrong."
"Wow, Mom was right."
"About what?"
"You acting like an Old Lady…"
"I was just trying to handle my shit."
"Like an Old Lady would. You are doing really good with all of this babe and I love you for it."
"Your call will be ending in sixty seconds…."
"Shit!" I heard Jax say.
"Just come back to me, Jackson okay? You're my old man, I kind of need you around."
"I know, Baby. I'll be back before you know it."
The phone disconnected and I hung up.
I took a deep breath and headed back out to the kitchen to finish my homework. I saw Gemma smoking a cigarette at the kitchen sink as I told her about what Jax talked to me about.
"I'm surprised he hasn't asked you to move in sooner," she told me. I smiled as I sat down and tried to focus on algebra instead of Jackson.
"I just want him home, Gemma," I told her as I felt myself starting to tear up.
No tears Babe…no tears…
NOTE
You wouldn't believe how much Sheriff Brenda is like my mother, it's unreal. She won't be the bad guy for the whole story. She'll come around eventually. With her daughter dating a guy like Jackson, Brenda doesn't really have a choice.
