Usually, when a tribute emerges from the arena as victor, it is due to their ability as a physical competitor that has seen them defeat their rivals. In the case of District 5's Luke Ford, the same cannot be said, making Luke stand out among victors, in his own way. When he won his Games over two decades ago, it was a quick mind that led to his domination of the 52nd Games, where he eliminated a quarter of the field himself.

In an arena that will go down in history as one of the most challenging of all time, Luke managed to write his own rulebook, turning many a harmless object into lethal weapons. You were never safe around him, no matter what the situation may have been. Add in the fact that all tributes in his Games began with a pistol - each loaded with a single bullet - and he had everything he needed to become District 5's first victor in a generation.

After the Games, Luke returned to District 5 where he now lives in Victor's Village, regularly mentoring the new tributes for his district, and even mentoring a victor; his district partner this year, Yvonne Grady.

At home, he had turned to a talent of painting until the death of his mentor Jared just over a decade ago, as he started to re-immerse himself into district life. Luke settled down and married shortly afterwards, beginning a productive marriage that would last until his wife's untimely death just four years ago.

Now, trapped in his misery, Luke fares little better than many other unfortunate victors in avoiding the substances. Maybe these Games will give him a sense of purpose again; a direction, a reason to fight. Because if anything, Luke Ford of District 5 will come out all guns blazing, because the arena is all that he has left.
