A/N: It's worth mentioning that, despite it being briefly mentioned in previous chapters, I've moved straight from District 6 to District 8, as District 7 only has two living victors in my version of events, and both are tributes in the Games. The same will happen when I get to District 11 later in the story, where Seeder and Chaff are the only two living victors.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy today's chapter :)

District 8's only mentor for the Third Quarter Quell is Harvey Collings, a small, quiet and determined man who won the Hunger Games nearly twenty years ago. Never favoured ahead of his larger, more powerful adversaries despite his training score of eight, Harvey came into his own after difficult conditions forced the early breakup of the traditional alliances. For most of his Games, every tribute was on their own; a situation that many of the favoured tributes from One, Two and Four had neither predicted nor prepared for.

Harvey's quiet demeanour possibly came from being the youngest of six siblings, always overshadowed by the achievements of those older than him. Even after his eldest brother was reaped for the 48th Games, eventually placing fourth, there was no space in the family for Harvey to show his potential.

Finally, when his name was pulled from the reaping bowl eight years later, Harvey had a chance to show everyone what he could do. Before the Games, he was a quiet if unremarkable tribute who, despite a decent training score, didn't stand up to his peers. In the arena, however, he was first to the Cornucopia, a hardened survivor who negotiated an arena covered in Gamemaker traps on his way to victory, picking up just one kill - the boy from District 6 - on his way to victory.

Even after the Games, Harvey's life has been modest and serene, living with the rest of his family in District 8, commanding a lot more respect than he once did. Suddenly he was a powerful, awe-inspiring figure, his quiet demeanour a disguise for a fast-thinking, hardened mind. In the Capitol, Harvey's attitude has often led to difficult interviews, with him often being unintentionally short with interviewers. Many of the more ruthless journalists in the Capitol would have loved to see Harvey in Woof's place tonight, if only for a chance to hear three minutes of him alone with Caesar Flickerman.

In the years following his victory, Harvey has regularly mentored for District 8 in the Hunger Games, with one victor to his name - Cecelia, who at the time was the first tribute aged under sixteen to win the Games. Now, with only three victors for Eight in the history of the Games, Harvey must mentor both his former mentor and his protegee through whatever Plutarch Heavensbee and his team of Gamemakers have lined up for tomorrow morning.

If nothing else, Harvey's introverted nature has left him marked as something of an unknown among victors. Perhaps this will give District 8 the edge it needs in the arena tomorrow.
