Author's note: Was it really 2011 that I last updated this? Wow. Bet you all thought I would never come back to it. Not sure how many of you are even still out there waiting. Honestly, RL has been a bear and I was doing too much RPing which took my writing away from this SJ story (I was RPing as SJ so I was still writing SJ.) This story is plotted out and I always intended to finish it, so here I am. This is a bit short, but it was the natural place to stop it – think of it as the bit right before the intro music in a new episode. Another new chapter will be coming shortly.

I was always a bit disappointed with the way they introduced Sky and her backstory. It seemed like it was too much of a duplicate of Luke's. Child made to be a weapon. Bad alien mother. That may have been their intention, but I thought it would be more interesting to give Sarah Jane (eventually) a normal human child with a normal human origin. A human child that perhaps … Well, you'll see.

Last we saw Sarah Jane and Oliver, they'd rescued the refugees from alien feline looking race, sent some bug aliens crawling, left Liz Shaw with some work to do and Sarah Jane had overcome the effects of an alien disease that had brought out her darker side. Now they're back home and well… You'll see.

The voice of the headmaster, Mr. Chandra, droned in her ears. It wasn't that she didn't like authority figures but… Well, she really didn't like authority figures. It wasn't as though they tried to help people like her, in fact most of the time they were just looking for a reason to blame her for something she hadn't done. Which was exactly what he was doing right now.

"You know this is profiling right? Trying to set us up for an ASBO?" She fixed the man with a hard look, though he'd probably think she was being insolent rather than standing up for herself and the other hard luck cases in here.

"That is certainly not…" Chandra put both hands on his desk, but he knew that this particular meeting was at the direction of the local council.

"Course it is, gov." She put on a harder, less educated accent and smirked. "Poor kids in care. Course we're the ones stealing the electronics from the other posh students." The smirk turned into a frown. "Otherwise this would be a general assembly, not a sit down in the head's office."

This meeting was distasteful enough, but this girl calling him on it. He blew out a breath. "Regardless, you all need to be aware that there will be serious consequences if you're found in possession of any stolen items."

Jess rolled her eyes and stood. "Heard and acknowledged, sir." In spite of her expression, she kept her tone respectful enough.

"And in acknowledgement of your concerns Miss Davies," Haresh met her gaze. "I will be making a general announcement to the entire student body."

She nodded curtly, even though it seemed to her too little too late. "Are we dismissed, sir?" She took a look at the other kids, who seemed too cowed or too disinterested to even react to how unfairly they were being treated, leaving her to be their advocate.

"Yes, you're dismissed." He nodded towards the door.

She and the others didn't waste time and made their escape, the other two filing out ahead of her as she glanced up at the teacher lounging against the wall with his arms crossed, looking at her with an amused grin. Her eyes narrowed. He was the one the posh kids called 'Professor' and she'd not made it to his classes. She wasn't apt to either, since A levels probably weren't worth wasting her time on. Besides there was something about him that didn't feel right to her. Why was he loitering against the wall of the head's office? Did he have something to do with them being called in? Or maybe… She nodded just as respectfully as she had to the head as she passed, but that didn't stop her from planning her next step. She was going to prove that the Council and the Head had it all wrong.

Oliver watched as the girl passed. The tossed brown curls and determined hazel eyes brought to mind another brown haired, hazel eyed girl that he'd known long ago – and she hadn't changed much to be honest with the years – and he wouldn't have it any other way. If he wasn't mistaken, Haresh had stirred up a hornet's nest with this one. "You know she's right don't you, Haresh?"

The other man gave Oliver an annoyed look. "Unfortunately, you and Sarah Jane's attitude towards the less fortunate children in our care, doesn't extend to the entire education authority. Specifically certain people who are very well connected and have children here who have lost items." He paused. "You know I don't appreciate…"

"I know…" Oliver held up his hands in appeasement. "Sarah always tells me I shouldn't go eavesdropping, which is rich coming from her but she claims its part of her job."

"Did you have a reason for being outside my office?" Haresh decided to cut Oliver off at the pass, there were times (mostly when he was talking about Sarah Jane) that the man had a tendency to ramble.

"Right, I did." Oliver rocked on his heels. "Actually it was about the robotics club. I'd like to get our team registered for the National competition."

Haresh couldn't hold back a smile. "You think we have a chance?"

"Oh, I should think so," Oliver pushed his glasses up his nose and pulled out a sheaf of paper as he spoke. "At the very least it'll be a good experience."
