2 weeks had passed since that week when Linka was made to spend time with the Loud sisters individually, or Linka's "Week of tortures and pleasantries", as Lincoln called it. Linka just said he was being a huge nerd. This was coming from the girl who bought strategy games and simulation games with gift money that Lori had given her as make up for her horrid experience of dinner between her and Bobby, so Lincoln didn't take it as an insult.
Those 2 weeks had mostly consisted of Linka hanging out with her twin brother, with Clyde or Ronnie-Anne as well sometimes, or else sitting in the backyard drawing. Leni and Lily were home everyday, but other than that, the Loud siblings were all over the place. Luna went to practice every day, Luan had birthday gigs many days, and also used the extra time to upload to LuanOutLoud. Lynn was at an overnight sports camp; Lucy was… hiding in the vents? Lana and Lola were at Bluebell day camp; Lori was accompanying Lisa to Berlin to scientific studies in an international conference.
On Saturday, Linka expected the day to go like any other weekend since she had been there. She woke up, ate breakfast, played video games, sketched in her pad, was doted on by her older sisters, played with her younger sisters, ate lunch and dinner, and went to sleep. But this day seemed different. Being the summer, no one had had to wake anyone up. She and Lincoln, and presumably the rest of the family, had the luxury of waking up when they felt. And usually, they woke at 8 or 9 in the morning. But that didn't explain why Lynn and Lana had entered the room just then and woken them up at... 7:30! Linka was very annoyed, but Linka was too tired and too shy in front of the jock to vocalize her annoyance. Lincoln had no such qualms, and so he spoke for him and his twin.
"Why did you wake us up?" Lincoln seemed quite annoyed indeed.
"We're gonna go to Dairyland, we wanted to know if you guys wanted to come too." Lynn spoke for the both of them.
"Dairyland?" It sounded to her as if they were going to a dairy farm. Didn't sound like much fun.
"It's a cow themed amusement park. Or, like Luan and the park-title say, amoosement park." She was met with a chorus of groans. 'I know, right?"
"Oh. Are just you 2 going?"
"Nah. Lori's driving us there, and Leni, Luna, and Luan are coming as well."
"Leni?" Lincoln was surprised that his fashion-obsessed sister would dare set foot in such a dirty place as an amusement park.
"Apparently their having a sale on Halloween clothing there."
"It's July." Lincoln deadpanned. But such is the world of retail, that festivals are marketed even 6 months before they begin.
"Are you going, Lincoln?" Lana was bored, and tried to get to the point.
"No. I have to hang out with Ron – I mean Clyde. Yeah. I promised to hang out with Clyde today." Lynn gave a skeptical look but made no further comment, instead moving to Linka.
"You?"
Linka seemed very nervous. She turned to Lincoln.
"You probably should go. You've been in the house with me all week. Go do something fun!"
Linka, hearing her brother's advice, turned to Lynn and Lana and agreed to come. They began to heckle her to change.
Linka drew the ochre curtain, changed, put on her leg, left the room, brushed her teeth, ate breakfast, and got in the car to go to Dairyland along with Lori, Leni, Luna, Luan, Lynn, and Lana. Originally it was only going to be the older siblings, but after Lana complained and begged she was allowed to come as well.
The Louds arrived at the park nearly an hour later. Leni and Luna went to get tickets, while the other 4 stayed behind. The 6 girls then went inside the park. It was then that Linka realized that being an amputee, she probably wouldn't be allowed on any rollercoasters because of her leg. Sure enough, when they asked an employee, she informed the family that she was sorry to tell them that there were only 2 of the rollercoasters that would allow her on.
"Sorry, Linky. We can go home if you want." Leni hugged her younger sister.
"I have an idea! You guys can go a-moo-se yourselves on a rollercoaster, and I'll take Linka to the fun house." Linka looked relieved at that. Though she didn't want to ruin her sister's trip, she also didn't want to spend the whole time in the park bored. The rest of the family had objection to what Luan had said, as evidenced by Luna.
"Dude, I don't think it counts as 'original' if its in the title of the park."
"Whatever. I'll just text you guys when we're finished."
"Ok, bro. We'll see you in 1 hour or something."
The 2 groups of siblings parted. While Leni, Luna, Lynn and Lana went to the first rollercoaster, Linka and Luan went to the fun house. Unlike the rest of the park, this was not cattle-themed. There were cheese designs on the walls, sure, but the subject matter had nothing cattle-themed.
Luan led her younger sister through the compressed air jet lined pathways and trick floors. They had fun and played in the ball pit, though being much older than anyone there did get them a few stares. Then, they went to the second floor of the fun house. There were 2 mazes there. One was normal, and challenging in the normal sense. The other was a maze whose walls were made of distorted mirrors. The 2 girls got through the first maze alright, and they began the second one fine as well. But halfway through, though she hated to admit it, Luan had gotten them lost. She had tried to keep it a secret from Linka, but it was hard to keep it a secret from the girl for long. Luan slowed down, and tried to reason her way out, only to find Linka was having a very tough time breathing.
"Linka, are you alright?" Luan was being very genuine in her tone. She managed to calm Linka down by cracking a few jokes, and the milk-haired girl hugged her.
"I guess I'm not really a fan of getting lost, either."
"Yeah, most people don't find that really a-moo-sing either. Get it?"
"I think they are right. It's not funny if you make the same joke over and over again."
Luan fake-pouted as Linka giggled. Luan had, by humor, make Linka calm down enough to assist Luan in finding a way out of the maze, and so even though it took them ½ hour above average time, the girls felt it to be a victory.
Luan texted her roommate, and the 2 groups agreed to reconvene at the food court. When they did get there, they found a rather green Leni (not just in her dress, but also in the face) sitting on a bench with Lana on her lap, and Luna and Lynn gone to order to the subpar amusement park pizza. Apparently, Leni had thrown up multiple times after going on the ride that they had chosen.
The next attraction, thankfully, was one that allowed amputees on, so Linka would be able to ride. Leni was rather disappointed that she wouldn't have anyone to go shopping with her, but Linka was secretly glad she didn't. She was of her twin's opinion, that clothes shopping was a dreadful way to spend any part of any day.
Linka along with Leni did follow Lana into the cattle pen while the other three went on a different rollercoaster, however. Leni was distraught that the cow had tried to eat her dress. Linka, Lana, and Leni got a picture with the Tippy the Cow mascot, so Leni felt the experience was a positive one.
While Lana went with the others on yet another rollercoaster (The Butter Churner), Leni lead Linka to a bench near the entrance to the ride.
"I'm, like, sooo sorry this trip was such a bad time for you." Leni turned suddenly towards that girl whose snow-color hair and apologized thusly.
"Huh? Oh. It's fine. I should've known that I wouldn't be welcome on many rides." Linka must have still looked forlorn, because Leni wore a frown of concentration.
"OMG, I just had, like, the best idea. Ever! Wait here. I'll be, like, right back." With that, the girl of the seafoam-green dress left Linka in the bench and skipped away. Linka waited there for 10 minutes. Eventually she pulled out a comic book that Lincoln had given her in an effort to make her enjoy Ace-Savvy, but Lincoln's efforts were in vain. All she saw was a bunch of overdramatic men in suits fighting crime in the most convoluted ways imaginable.
When eventually Leni did return, she had in her hand that universal gesture of good will, of peace, of friendship and friendliness. I am talking, of course, about chocolate. She had in one hand a chocolate ice cream and in the other a chocolate bar.
"Take your pick." Linka let out a gasp of incredulousness. Her mouth began to water. As it was rather hot outside in the July sun, and she had no plans to bathe in the milk vat, Linka chose the ice cream to help cool off.
"Good choice! I, like, went to the ice cream man and asked him for chocolate, and he was, like, real confused and stuff. I kept asking him for chocolate, and then he gave me a chocolate ice cream and a chocolate bar and made me pay and then he made me leave and..." Leni turned when she realized that Linka was no longer paying attention to her, but instead was lost. Lost in the bliss of that most wondrous of foods. Lost in the bliss of that king of cold sweets on a warm day. Lost in the bliss of that most illustrious taste to whom all taste buds in the kingdom of Linka's mouth from the nobility to the peasants bow down.
When Luna, Luan, Lynn, and Lana found the 2 girls, they were lying on the bench, content. Due to height limits, Lana was also not permitted to ride on the next ride. To make it up to the pouting tomboy, Linka went to a faux shooting range, and due to sheer luck was able obtain a plush snake, which Lana had plans now to introduce to Izzy and co.
Though they had doubts about bringing her, Leni ended up being the one who tired the last, most likely because she had done nearly nothing the entire trip. Lana spent the ride home sleeping, resting her head first on Linka's shoulder, then on her lap, even though just a few minutes earlier she was jumping into the car. Lana was unsure of what to do with the sleeping little girl, but Luna helped her out. Leni was still chatting away to a very vexed Luna and Luan, while Lynn was reading a sports magazine. Lori was driving and talking to Bobby on the phone at the same time.
Linka, looking around, felt extremely happy. Even though her favorite element of this family, her twin, was missing, she still felt that this family was one that she could trust, one that she could love. Even though she still didn't feel part of this family just yet, she knew that she could count on all of her new sisters, not just Lincoln, to help her. And even though she couldn't open up just yet, she felt comfortable knowing that at least Leni, Luna, Luan, Lynn, Lana, Lola, and especially Lincoln would be willing to listen and help. That was a lot of people that she could count on. It felt nice.
Sorry for the filler chapter. I had trouble figuring out how the next chapter I wanted was going to work out. I had a random thought to explore Dairyland a bit, so I decided to send the Louds there while I figure out how the summer camp is going to work. This chapter is boosted in size only by serious descriptions of frivolous and humorous things.
Also, someone had anonymously commented about how they dread when Chandler appears, because they know it won't be pretty. Chandler is, surprisingly, already set to appear in the next chapter.
