December 20th prompt by Stutley Constable: A model boat.

A drabble.

A model boat

A tattered sail,

A battered keel;

Some patches bare

On painted wood.

He held it to the light,

And saw the splintered mast,

And understood.

~0~

A favourite toy was

Left behind;

A well loved treasure

Dropped in flight;

He gazed around

The room,

And tried to link the

Strange events that night.

~0~

The frantic fear

Which drove

Them out;

Two children,

And the victim's wife.

No trace,

No sign,

Of where they went;

Impelled by

Sudden

Threat to life.

~0~

A case uncovered

Quite by chance;

The Abernetty's

Tragedy.

Suspicions raised

By parsley,

Sunk in butter,

Where it should not be...

~0~

You will remember, Watson, how the dreadful business of the Abernetty family was first brought to my notice by the depth which the parsley had sunk into the butter upon a hot day. ยป - Sherlock Holmes
