Danger

Diane's heart plummeted and she was suddenly icy cold. Nikki had been taken hostage by an armed man who they believed to be on drugs, which meant he was even less stable-minded. She was actually glad that Mel was driving to the scene. She wasn't sure if she could have driven the car and she needed the time to compose herself. It was the bad thing about keeping their relationship a secret, now that Nikki was in danger she was expected to be like any other officer when she was so much more.

"Right," Smithy spoke up when they had all arrived within two minutes of each other. "We are here, and this is the room that Sgt Wright is being held. If the negotiation does not go to plan, Diane, Mel, Ben, you will enter here. Stone, Leon, Kirsty, you will go through this entry. Okay?" He said pointing at the map.

For the next few minutes they huddled in position until they heard the gunshot. Diane didn't need to be told twice to get in there.

With over ten people pointing guns at him, the man quickly decided even in his drugged state to let Nikki go and put the gun down. No one seemed to notice that Diane was the person to walk Nikki out or how close she was holding her; she was another sergeant, anyway.

"Nikki, Nikki, you had me worried." Diane whispered as she held onto her.

All Nikki could say was "It's okay; it's going to be okay."

It was only that night at Diane's apartment after the debriefing and the charging of the suspect that Diane started to relax from the day. Nikki was out of danger now, and that was all that mattered.
