I'm sorry

She turned away before Kate could look back at her. She didn't want to meet her gaze, because she knew that it would be full of anger and hatred. She had promised her that everything would be all right; that she wouldn't get in trouble. That was what Diane had thought, at least. Yes, she had carried the drugs for Barry, but she had given everyone up, there had been so many arrests... Diane didn't think that she would be charged. Yet, here she was, being led away charged with intent to supply an illegal Class A substance.

"P.C Noble, my office, now!" rang out the order from Sergeant Brown. "I've heard that you told a young girl she wasn't going to be charged with anything after she committed a serious offence."

"Yes, Sarge."

"Why?"

"Well, the last case I was working with Detective Sergeant Murray, they let the drug mule off because he gave up names, and the situation was the same."

"The situation was very different, P.C Noble. Every situation is different. Now, you have only been in the force for a little over a month, so I am going to warn you not to do it again. I will leave it there as you didn't know better, but now you do. I do not want to hear of a complaint like this again. Understood?"

"Very clearly, Sarge."

"Good. You may go."

Just as Diane was about to walk out the door, her sergeant spoke up again.

"Diane, go and say sorry or you'll regret it for a long time."

Nodding her head, Diane kept walking.

The officer on duty opened the door, allowing Diane access to the cell.

"What do you want?" Kate sneered, upon seeing who it was.

Nodding at the other officer and allowing him to walk off, she finally spoke.

"I want to say sorry. I was wrong, I made a mistake."

"Yeah, and don't I know it."

"I just had to say sorry."

"Okay whatever, you can go now.'

Diane nodded and slowly walked out of the cell, nodding at the duty officer.

Lesson 10 learnt.
