Cold

Directing traffic at 6am on a winter morning; snow had fallen overnight, and now there were roads that had been deemed impassable. Her breath was visible as she spoke to her colleagues.

The cold didn't affect her at first, but after a while, it started to creep into her body, then her bones. Soon it felt like she might never be warm again. A fleeting thought of 'this is what death feels like?' crossed her mind before she banished it.

She moved her legs and felt them go up and down, feeling the blood circulating. She could still feel her feet, which was a good sign.

When Smithy came down to take over, she smiled in relief. Now to the patrol car to warm up a tad before the next stint on the road.
