A/N: Sorry about the short chapters but please bear with me for while as I do hope to work on some longer ones in the future...
Episode 3: Feast
These pathetic souls...wandering around going about their routine like a robot...never mind about me though...I will show them...they may not be able to see me but I'll find a way to exact my vengeance...
The hunger...
Exiting the dark abyss of the alleyway I realise how much I have grown since last night. I feel like I have completely transformed into a heightened being. I tower over most of these humans now. Looking down on them seems like looking down on a stubborn child.
I approach a man in a brown business suit. He bumps into me unknowingly then after shrugging his shoulders moves back onto the train-tracks of his daily motions. I grit my teeth in anger as people completely ignore my presence.
So I follow the man further down the street, following his exact steps. He walks into a bakery and buys a ham roll before munching on the food.
The hunger grows stronger...
I resume my travels as this man stops to answer his mobile phone.
Chatting to a friend eh? If only you knew how easy all this could be taken away from you.
I gather his positive mood by the exaggerated gestures and wide-brimmed smile wrapping his face. I begin to loath the man and only wish for something terrible to be cast upon him.
The hunger is taking over now...
The man must be closing in on his destination – work. I never had the chance to find a career and become a man. This human is a mockery for all those who have died young previously. I may need to educate this man on the realities of this unforgiving hellhole of a world.
The hunger is calling me...I must respond now...
He enters the revolving glass doors of the office building to which I follow. However I seemed to have underestimated just how tall I have become and crash into the entire framework smashing the entrance and raining glass upon the other commuters.
The sounds of screams drain my ears as I try to relieve myself of the noise. The fear of pain compels me to silence this crowd. The screams won't stop and I must act now before the pain consumes me again.
"GRRAAAAOOOWWW" I try and scream but it comes out sounding more like an animalistic roar. I swipe at the crowd of bystanders as if I were swatting away a group of pesky insects.
The noise has been silenced...
I open my eyes and realise the sheer destruction I have created around me. Several people lay dead around me. All it took was one hit and they fell. These humans are so fragile – no, they are just weak.
Things begin to become peculiar when I notice the souls of these individuals rise from the bodies that previously possessed them. It is only now that the people have become enlightened to what true fear is. Finally they notice me – unfortunately they abhor me and run away in fear.
"MONSTER!" Is the chorus of their screams. How can they say that? I am in the same situation as them right now. Perhaps we can save each other.
"No please come back...I wish to help you."
A woman trips over her chain and points accusingly at me. "Stay away from me."
I reach my milky white hand out to her. "Please listen to me...I need you to find the Shinigami."
She turns a deaf ear and tries to pull herself up. She falls again and screams hysterically. "GET AWAY FOR ME MONSTER!"
It's the noise again...this time it's worse...I must stop the noise...
"SHUT-UP!" I plead with her but she is too irrational.
"SOMEONE PLEASE SAVE ME!" She does what I tried to do previously and reaches out to other humans for salvation. It seems they disregard her as nothingness as well. So I'm not alone in my anguish. But I fear it may be too late for her. The hunger is beyond limits and I need to eat...
I slowly creep over to her position. My shadow consumes the ground she lay on. I can smell her fear as she slowly creak her head to face true despair.
"P-please..." She speaks softly. "P-please don't kill me..."
My mind would normally find reason to stop this but the hunger drives me to sheer instinct. "I'm sorry but...I am hungry."
"KYAAAAHHH!"
I am a monster. For what was brief satisfaction quickly turned to utter disgust at myself. Staring into the puddle that is her blood I gather the reflection of my abortion of a frame that makes up my new form. What I could only summarise as I giant skeleton, I observed the intricate details of this monster that I had become.
My body was mainly ivory white with streaks of black running horizontally across my torso. Large exaggerated bones were visible and out of proportion. My arms drooped to my feet which resembled a bird's talons. Four long banana shaped fingers – no claws protruded from my hand and my face was concealed by an inhuman head: long, wide and flat with only a two slits that intersect in a cross shape for my window of vision into this damned world. When I open my mouth I can see the sharp serrated blades that make up my teeth.
Finally I stared into the dark void that was the hole that my heart left behind. I did feel hollow inside and perhaps that was where the name came from. It seems I must forever feast upon souls for sustenance and to fill the dark space that my hollow body has left me with.
"That woman was right. I really am a monster... I sigh to myself. Looking at my distorted features move and form words makes me feel even more disgusted. I stamp the puddle making the ripples censor myself from the abomination that I have become.
The pain was torture but seeing myself like this is the worst punishment anyone could recieve. I continue my travels down the street alone. The emergency vehicles have swooped down on the bodies, in what looks like a gathering of scavenging vultures, but noone is coming to rescue me. I must fend for myself now. I must survive on instinct. I must continue to eat to survive.
My next meal will surely be soon.
And so I have succumbed to the hunger that curses my body. How will I live with myself knowing what I have become? How can I feel remorse for my actins wihout a heart? Will i be doomed to becoming a beast? Please don't miss the next chapter!
