Jurassic Park Broken Lives

Chapter 7: A Life Saved

Disclaimer: I do not own Jurassic Park.

Blazing in a magnificent glow, the flare spiraled through the air. Suddenly it dug itself into the neck of the young gallimimus, spilling blood out in waves. The creature squealed in pain but soon collapsed to the ground and died. Almost immediately, the entire herd of gallimimus was running in fear of a creature they could not see.

Tears rolled down Amanda's face as she watched the blood quickly flow out of the wound. "I'm so sorry… Ellie."

"We could have been rescued!" Ellie screamed.

"Yes and our velociraptor friend would have died a slow death, possibly thinking we died because of him." Amanda said as tears filled her eyes.

Ellie, enraged, glared at Amanda for a second and tried to say something but could not. Ellie grabbed the rope from Amanda's shoulder and walked into the field. "Would you hurry up?" Ellie said angrily as reached the dead gallimimus. "Your precious raptor is probably hungry."

"Ellie don't be like this… please." Amanda sobbed.

"Hurry up and help me get some ropes around this thing before something tries to eat us." Ellie harshly said.

"Ellie…" Amanda started but Ellie only glared at her. Amanda sighed as she quickly grabbed some of the rope and tied it around the body of the two-meter long animal. Soon they began to drag to body back into the jungle. Amanda glanced back at the plain briefly to see a large carnivore burst from the trees on the other side, grab one of the still fleeing gallimimus, and let out a roar. The remaining creatures, in a panic, stampeded away to the jungle, where several super predators attacked.

Amanda and Ellie, unnoticed by the other animals, quickened their pace for a short while then slowed because of the added weight of the gallimimus. The entire trip was quiet, even the surrounding jungle seemed to quiet around them. Occasionally the girls heard a snapping branch nearby and quickened their pace. The two humans slowly dragged the carcass across the stream, through the mud, and towards the compound with Silver Claw. Amanda tried to talk to Ellie but only got a silent glare. Finally, after a one and a half hour trek back from the plain, Amanda pushed aside the final branch and stared happily at the fence.

"We're back." Amanda joyfully said as they reached the fence.

Ellie pushed a button on the outside of the fence and the lock clicked. Slowly she pushed open the gate and together with Amanda pulled the carcass toward the Velociraptor who was still on his side. Soon Ellie released her grip on the rope and ran sobbing into the building. "I hope you enjoy it because now we're stuck here!"

Confused and dizzy, Silver Claw slowly sat up and looked at Amanda while she closed the gate and sat down next to him. Soon Silver Claw began to eat even though he saw several tears rolling down Amanda's face and she suddenly began to cry.

"We could have been rescued but instead I shot a defenseless animal." Amanda sobbed. "I chose to help you rather than get off this island."

Silver Claw dropped the piece of flesh in his mouth and stared at Amanda in shock. How could she have done that? Now she and Ellie were stuck here and it was his fault. Silver Claw began to nudge Amanda gently, hoping to find out why chose to stay here over going home.

"Aw… you got blood on my shirt." Amanda wiped the tears off her face then looked at Silver Claw. "What do you want?"

Amanda sat their as the velociraptor, realizing he would not get the answer to the question he wanted know, exhaled heavily and returned to eating. Before long Silver Claw had his fill and rested his head on the humans lap. Even though she was still in tears, Amanda started to pet the velociraptor's head and he began to purr softly in response.

Amanda smiled slightly, "I'm starting to get use to being around you while you're eating." Amanda said. "I'm not feeling sick at all today…"

Silver Claw slowly shifted to get more comfortable then set his head back down on Amanda's lap. "I'm sorry I caused all of this." Silver Claw sighed, knowing Amanda would not know what he had said.

"I'm starting to get annoyed that I can't understand you." Amanda said softly as she whipped a tear away. "Maybe… you could teach me some words I choose… please."

Silver Claw lifted his head, smiled slightly, and gladly nodded.

"Ok… can we start now?"

Again, Silver Claw nodded in response.

"Ok… Thank you. Yeah, let us start with that. How do you say Thank you in raptor?"

Ellie slowly made her way through the building. She was furious. How could Amanda do this to her? Now she was stuck on this god-forsaken island with no way to get home to her family and other friends. Just because Amanda had not family left does not mean she has to keep anyone else here! Suddenly Ellie screamed and swung out at a wall. Tears formed in her eyes and she sank down to the floor in an uncontrollable sob.

Amanda made several soft growls. Silver Claw nodded slightly and rubbed his head against her.

Amanda smiled. "And people say learning a new language is hard." She chuckled. "So… I now know three words. Thank you, hello, and friend."

Silver Claw nudged Amanda gently and pointed to the kill.

"Oh, you're done. Are you sure that you don't want anymore."

Silver Claw nodded again.

Amanda made several small growls then laughed a bit. "Um… could you cut a piece off for me?"

Silver Claw slowly stood up on his unstable legs and placed one foot on the kill. Slowly he dragged his killing claw down an uneaten part of the hind leg. Soon Silver Claw picked up the piece of meat and gave it to Amanda.

"Thank you," Amanda growled before she began to eat. "I wish the stove worked in the kitchen, I wonder what a dinosaur steak would taste like cooked…. Maybe I should talk to Ellie soon… She is pretty upset."

Silver Claw nodded. Finally when Amanda finished her meal and began to walk towards the building, Silver Claw grabbed a piece of meat then followed her into the building, although very slowly. They walked by a small chair and bulletin board and soon found Ellie sobbing on the floor in the hall. Amanda slowly sat down next to Ellie and Silver Claw did the same.

"Go away… both of you!"

"Ellie, I'm sorry."

"Saying you're sorry won't get me off this island now will it."

"Ellie…"

"I'm sorry that you have no family left but I do and I just want to go home…" Ellie cried.

Amanda too began to cry softly. "I…"

Silver Claw set down the piece of meat near Ellie who angrily grabbed it and soon she began to eat. Amanda and Silver Claw sat quietly around her. Finally, after half an hour, she stopped crying and finally spoke again, "I'm just so… so frustrated… with everything!"

"I know Ellie, I am too." Amanda said then smirked as she added a single growl.

"Why did you just make that noise for?" Ellie asked

Amanda laughed and looked at the velociraptor. "He knows what it means."

"What?"

"Our raptor friend knows what it means."

Ellie just stared blankly at Amanda then at the raptor. "I have no clue what you are talking about."

"Ellie, that growl was in velociraptor."

Ellie began to laugh. "So you're learning another language."

Amanda nodded her head. "I kind of know three words so far…"

"Three, wow that is impressive." Ellie joked. "What are they?"

"Hello, Thank you, and friend. They are a little harder that English to learn but if you can mimic things with your voice it's easy."

"Maybe I should learn it too so I won't be left out." Ellie chuckled

"If our friend is willing to have another… student I guess we could say."

Silver Claw nodded.

"Aw… I hate school." Ellie said and grabbed Amanda in a hug. "Thanks for cheering me up. We can find some other way to get off this island."

Maybe you will, Amanda though. "You're welcome. It has been a hard day for both of us… I mean three of us." Amanda said and got out of Ellie's hug. "I think we should go onto the roof and have a nap…"

"I'm still upset though, but at least our…" Ellie tried to mimic the sound Amanda made, but miserably failed because Silver Claw's jaw dropped in shock of what she actually said. Amanda laughed slightly.

Before long, they were walking down the hall and outside. The sun had risen higher into the sky and was bathing the island in welcome warmth. Slowly the three walked around the building until they reached the ladder and the velociraptor was the first to climb. Amanda and Ellie watched in amazement of how he was able to climb so easily. Ellie was next and Amanda soon followed. Before long, Silver Claw found a panel gleaming in the sunlight near the front of the building. Slowly he lied down in front of it and in a little while, Amanda and Ellie joined him. Soon the three were fast asleep.

Unbeknownst to them, a pair of blue eyes, filled with a murderous rage, was watching. "They will suffer for what they have done to me!"
