Jurassic Park Broken Lives: An Update

Disclaimer: This is an update and not a new chapter. It is a detailed explanation of what's been going on around the story and the future of the story itself. A bonus at the end will be the unfinished original ending to Broken Lives with a warning beforehand in case you do not wish to read it as some stuff may make it into the new rewritten version of the Broken Lives Saga, yes Saga.

Authors Note: The Past, Present, and Future of the Broken Lives Saga.

First of all, I would like to thank my readership for the continued support of the story we have come care so deeply about, Broken Lives. It has been my great pleasure to read the comments and feedback on the story and though I have not been the most reliable of writers when it comes to replies, I do read everything and appreciate it all. Thank you for your support over these long years of absence.

Around the time of my last major update back in 2009, my life was changing. I won't go into the details of my life around this time but in terms of Broken Lives, I was disheartened and frustrated to say it bluntly. Something was bothering me about the story but I could not really place my finger on it. I started trying to work out the problem by making maps, each one was 50+ hours of work that I scrapped before completion, finding something I disliked that was not worth the effort of correcting in my mind. I also fell into a slump of procrastination. While I would think of new story ideas for Broken Lives or my own works, I'd usually only make a note of them and move on instead of writing. YouTube and video games did not help matters, plus other life problems that come with adulthood.

To put it plainly, I lost a great deal of my motivation to write or even read during this time, maybe only writing a few hundred words if that and reading only a single book if that every month. I'm only now starting to get back to where I was back in 2007-2008 when I would sometimes write 10,000 words a day or at least 2,000-5,000 more often. I'm still getting back into reading and should hopefully get back to reading a book a week at least.

In 2015, I started to reenergize myself. I started drawing more and writing. I began responding to messages again and talking with people. In 2016 I live streamed work on the latest version on the map and posted some new updated chapter rewrites. However as 2017 rolled around, I fell into a slump again. I tried doing other things, live streaming on my Twitch and posted some YouTube Let's Plays. Anything that could help me reinvigorate my passion. Nothing worked really.

As 2017 neared to an end however, I finally came upon the realization that I needed. I started watching writing lectures on YouTube to help improve my writing and several posts on structure finally worked their way into my mind. That was what bothered me all these years, I just wasn't skilled enough in my writing to see it for the problem that it was. Though parts of me knew to some extent as I began breaking up the story in 3 parts (The Beginning, Broken Lives, Kindled Dreams) then 5 parts (Genesis, Reclamation, Broken Lives, Out of the Abyss, Kindled Dreams) over the years.

I went to my social media, Twitter and a DeviantART journal to ask for feedback, though I had already made my mind up to some extent. I needed some advice. With the feedback I received, I finally made the decision to not only break up the Broken Lives Series into a 12 part Broken Lives Saga but also to start with a fresh post on Fanfiction, leaving this version of Broken Lives as a kind of memorial to my writing over the years. I have changed the old chapters that were rewritten to the original chapters, or as close as I could get to the original (I saved over the original Chapter 1 back in the day sadly).

The new Broken Lives Saga will look like this:

1. Jurassic Park Genesis

2. Jurassic Park Edge of Paradise

3. Jurassic Park The Fall

4. Jurassic Park Reclamation

5. Jurassic Park Tooth and Claw

6. Jurassic Park Generations

7. Jurassic Park Broken Lives

8. Jurassic Park Fractured Bonds

9. Jurassic Park Bloodlines

10. Jurassic Park Contagion

11. Jurassic Park Out of the Abyss

12. Jurassic Park Kindled Dreams

These stories will take some time to write, likely over the next 2-3 years to do them properly. They will also focus more on my own characters than those from the films, more so Jurassic Park Genesis (formally Jurassic Park The Beginning) than Jurassic Park Broken Lives.

I believe that I have worked out many of the problems with structure and plot. And as I continue to strive towards improving myself and my writing, I hope that you will continue to join me in this wonderful world of fan fiction. I hope to have the new stories starting in the coming weeks so keep an eye out for those posts. I may also continue on the various spinoff series I started working on and post them as breaks in writing so I don't burn out again.

If you have any concerns or feedback you'd like me to keep in mind for the rewrites, this is the best time to voice them in reviews, comments, or DMs. Twitter is the faster option for communicating with me as I check it the most. I am Dinohunter55 on Twitter.

Thank You and a Happy New Year.

*Warning Spoilers Ahead*

Note: I originally wrote this little section back on 14/08/2007 as the intended ending for Broken Lives which was first published on 19/02/2007. Wow, I feel not only old but very sorry that it's taken this long to come this far. A saved video on my Twitch has me reading, albeit poorly, this segment on stream.

Epilogue: Destined Fates

Almost a week pasted since Amanda and Silver Claw were set adrift with the bombing of Isla Sorna. They clung to the tree and drifted at sea in the blazing sun and icy nights. Their energy diminished and only the water that formed over their bodies during the morning kept them alive, neither wanted to die before the other…

On a secluded beach of Costa Rica, seagulls circled overhead, a tree had washed up on shore and brought along with it two bodies, Amanda and Silver Claw. The soothing swash of the ocean water as it broke on the beach was a testament to their life, calm one moment and dangerous the next. Their claws intertwined in a romantic embrace, their snouts touching and their tails crossed. Smiles lay on their faces as they both joined each other in death only a moment apart, painless and together, looking into the others eyes. The last words they spoke to one another were, "I love you with all my heart, my mate."
