Kya turned out to be a very gifted waterbender. She seemed to have inherited her mother's element but her father's bending power. After a few months she had mastered the most basic waterbending moves and stances, an incredible feat for any three year bender.

Tenzin and Gyatso were now able to crawl and Kya was now finally able to pronounce their names right.

Katara was going to take Kya to visit the South Pole today; they would spend about a week at the Southern Water Tribe so Kya could meet her great Gran-Gran. Katara also hoped that this trip would be educational for the young waterbender to learn about her heritage and culture.

It was decided that Gyatso and Tenzin would stay at the Southern Air Temple because they were a bit too young to brave the harsh cold. Katara didn't like to leave Aang for too long but he said that it was a great idea for Kya to learn about where Katara grew up.

Everyone bid each other farewell and with a "Yip Yip!" they started to fly.

Luckily, Katara had saved the parka from when she was a young girl- and it fit Kya perfectly. Soon enough they had landed at the South Pole.

….

"Grandpa!" yelled Kya as she got helped off Appa, as soon as she was safely on the ground- or snow; she rushed into her grandfather's warm embrace.

"Katara! It's been too long" Said a voice that Katara hadn't heard for far too long.

"Gran-Gran!" Yelled Katara as she got pulled into a hug "You remember Kya?"

"I haven't seen you since you were a little one" said the wise elder.

Kya didn't remember her great-grandmother and was starting to become shy; she rushed over to her mother and clutched her legs.

Gran-Gran chuckled, "I remember a time when you were like that Katara"

"Really?" she asked and gently ushered her daughter to greet her great-grandmother

"Kya, this is my Gran-gran, your Great-Grandma"

"…Hello Great-Gran Gran…" Kya mumbled shyly

Gran-Gran laughed and pulled her great-granddaughter into a hug.

"Do you know my brothers?" she asked

"I have heard of them, but your naughty mother hasn't bought them to visit me yet"

Kya giggled, "Haha mummy, you're naughty!" She taunted and Katara laughed.

….

"This is where I lived when I was your age" Katara told Kya

"You lived in a block of ice?" she asked

"Haha…well I suppose when you put it like that I did!" She inwardly laughed at Kya's logic, although the Southern Water Tribe had grown since she was last here, they still lived in Igloo's or small tents.

They made their way too Gran-Gran's tent, Katara had taken Kya on a tour of the Southern Water Tribe which hadn't taken that long due to its size, She had agreed to meet Gran-Gran for dinner, Kya was excited to try some traditional Southern Water Tribe food.

They entered the tent to find Kataras old master inside.

"Master Pakku!" She exclaimed and ran to hug her now grandfather.

Shyness took over Kya again as she tried to shrink into the shadows.

"Ahh, so this must be the young one I've been hearing so much about" Katara nodded and introduced them.

"Kya, this is your Great-Grandfather!"

"Hello…" said Kya shyly but she fast became friends with Pakku.

"Master Pakku taught me waterbending!" said Katara and she saw Kya's eyes widen

"You're a waterbender?" She asked and Pakku nodded

"Are you a bender, Kya?"

"Yes" Replied Kya and it was Pakku's turn for his eyes to widen

"Kana didn't mention that too me…"

"She didn't" Katara was surprised at this; perhaps she had her reasons…

"Have you been training?" Pakku asked, eager to have another pupil

"Yep! Mummy says I'm really good!"

"Well if Master Katara says it, it must be so…Would you like to have a training session with me before you leave?"

Kya was eager to learn from her mother's master, "Can I mummy?" She asked, after getting her mother's approval she said "Yes please!"

With this, Gran-Gran walked in, followed by Hakoda. Both were carrying large dishes and as Katara smelt them, she remembered all the good times she had spent here. They were each dished their dinner and was told to tuck in.

"Yucky!" Kya made a face as she tried the sea prunes.

"You must have inherited your father's taste for Water Tribe dishes" Said Katara laughing as she gave Kya a different dish, she found this one to be tasty and the night passed without any further incident.
