The Promise

-In which we introduce 2 new characters….sort of…

I do not own Avatar: The Last Airbender or The Last Airbender: The Legend Of Korra, but I do own a ….oh wait….no I don't!

Mai and Zuko were visiting the Southern Air Temple to show Katara and Aang their new child. Katara and Mai had both found out they were pregnant at around the same time, so the two had really bonded over the prospect of having a baby, and it had really let Mai show some emotion.

Katara was due to have her fourth child in about a month, but she could barely hold her excitement to see the new Fire Nation princess. She was hoping that now Mai would realise what a great mother she would become; she had told her that she needn't raise her children the way she had been raised, which she was sure was something that had been running through Mai's mind.

Knock Knock

Katara went to lift herself out of the chair she was sitting in to answer the door, but Aang put a hand on her shoulder.

"Katara, You know you're not supposed to be straining yourself!" he said

"Oh what? Answering the door is 'straining myself?'" she raised an eyebrow but let Aang answer the door.

….

"Hello Zuko, Mai Come on in!" The avatar greeted the couple and let them inside to where Katara was seated.

"Congratulations!" he said to Zuko as Mai took a seat next to Katara.

"I'll go get the kids" Aang excused himself, and when he elbowed Zuko in the ribs, Zuko followed. They didn't want to interrupt Mai and Katara "Bonding time".

Mai passed the tiny princess to Katara

"She's so beautiful" Katara said as she cradled the little princess in her arms

"What did you name her?" She enquired, not taking her eyes off the infant.

"Well, Zuko and I had a hard time deciding, but we ended up calling her Azayla"

"Princess Azayla" she cooed as the child in her arms opened her eyes

….

Aang and Zuko led a now 5 year old Kya and 2 year old twins into the kitchen where Mai, Katara and Azayla were.

"Can I have a look mummy?" Kya asked and Katara passed Azayla to Mai and lifted Kya up onto her knee.

Even though they weren't blood related, Kya, Tenzin and Gyatso had always referred to Mai and Zuko as their "Uncle and Aunty"

"She's so tiny" breathed Gyatso when Aang had lifted him onto his shoulders for a better view.

"Can I see too Uncle Zuko?" asked Tenzin raising his arms, Zuko lifted him onto his shoulders as well.

"I am bigger than Azaza" Tenzin told Zuko and he chuckled in response. He wasn't very use to child interaction, but he was trying his hardest to become a good father, he would never stoop as low as his father Ozai.

"Are you?" asked Zuko, trying to play along with Tenzin's game

"You're silly Uncle Zuko, we are all bigger then Azaza!" said Gyatso, as though his uncle was being serious

"It's Azayla!" corrected Kya, although she spoke too loud and frightened the infant

"WAH!" Azaylas cries pierced the air and Tenzin almost fell off Zukos shoulders in shock.

Mai gently cradled her daughter and this seemed to calm her. She briefly thought of her mother always trying to silence her whenever she spoke. She disregarded this thought and repeated the promise she had made to herself

"I won't become my mother"

A/N Sorry if it seems like I'm rushing the plot in this chapter and the next, I just want to introduce all the character! Then we can have epically cute adventures with Kya, Tenzin, Gyatso and… (You have to wait for the next chapter to find out the name of the last baby!)

- Wow! So much CapsLock! Thank you for the awesome compliment, I am pretty busy but I have posted, like, 9 chapters in one day ^_^ hopefully in the next couple of weeks I will have a break that will let me spend more time on this story.

Coolanater- thanks for the warning! Too be perfectly honest, I have no idea! One day I just had this idea for a fic, and I sat down and drew a picture of what I thought the children would look like. I'm not a mother or anything so I didn't think they were so good!
