Gravity
In which Aang finds some gliders, and laughs like crazy.
I do not own Avatar: The Last Airbender or The Last Airbender: The Legend Of Korra, but I do own this disclaimer!
…
Aang was journeying through the underground parts of the temple, it was dark and dusty down there and he hadn't ever been down there. He held fire in his hand and used his airbending to clean the dust off everything. His eyes fell on some long slender objects in the corner of the room.
"Gliders!" He thought as he ran over to them. He picked one up and opened it; it was just like his old glider. How long had he wished his old glider had never got destroyed? The mechanist's glider was alright, but it was nothing compared to those made by the monks. He couldn't wait to test it out, but he also had another idea…
….
Tenzin and Gyatso were helping Kya practise her healing. She had a large mannequin to practise on but it was nothing compared to an actual person.
"Come on…" She whispered, trying to concentrate on flowing all her chi out of her fingertips, the water she had around her hand glowed blue for only 10 seconds.
"Argh, why can't I do it?" She asked, she was getting frustrated. She could use her healing abilities but only for minor wounds, and she couldn't keep it going for a long time.
"You'll get it honey, just keep practising" said Katara, who had just walked out of the temple after putting Kasami down for a nap.
Kya was a gifted waterbender, but healing was so much harder for her. She had to really concentrate to refine her skills and sometimes it just seemed impossible.
"Tenzin, Gyatso! Can you come over here for a moment?" Aangs voice yelled, Tenzin and Gyatso got up and followed the sound of his voice.
"Who am I going to practise on now?" Asked Kya miserably
"You can practise on me sweetie" Said Katara, lying down in front of her daughter
"Ok, thanks mummy!" Kya said with a smile, and Katara was relieved to see her acting a little brighter.
….
"Yes dad?" asked Tenzin as they walked up to their father. He was standing at the edge of the land the temple sat on.
"Did you boys want to learn how to fly?"
Both their eyes lit up at this, they had always seen their father flying around on his glider and it looked like fun
"Yeah!" came their enthusiastic cries as they took the gliders his father held out to them.
First he taught them how to open their gliders, it was a little tricky but they picked up how to do it in no time.
Next he gave them a demonstration, the boys watched in awe as their father jumped off the edge to seemingly fall down into nothingness just to fly up toward the sun.
Aang was having fun flying around on his new glider, he started to show off a bit and did loops and flew upside down.
Tenzin and Gyatso really wanted to learn how to fly on their gliders, but as they approached the edge and looked down into nothingness, they got a little nervous.
"What if I fall daddy?" Said Tenzin, worrying he would fall down into the blackness
"Trust me, you're an Airbender, flying will come naturally to you." Aang tried to reassure his son.
"It may be a little overwhelming to stand at the cliffs edge, but when you start to fly, you feel so free. When you fly something takes over, something lighter than air and it supports you. That something is spirit." Aang gave his small speech and was reminded of his visit to the Northern Air Temple.
"What if I don't have spirit?" Gyatso asked.
"Your mother was worried she didn't have spirit the first time she flew"
"Mummy flew?" Gyatso asked, looking very surprised
"But mummy isn't an Airbender" Said Tenzin, wondering how his mother had been able to fly.
"No, but she had sprit, and so do you too."
Tenzin and Gyatso took a deep breath, and jumped off the edge of the edge of the cliff, gliders in hand. They disappeared into the dark abyss, but then they flew out of it, flying toward the sun like their dad.
Aang was yelling and cheering them on, his eyes widened as he realised he had forgot to tell them one of the most important parts of flying.
He jumped on his glider and reached Tenzin first.
"Tenzin, keep your mouth closed as much as possible!" He yelled, the wind in his ears.
"Why?" He asked but was interrupted by a retching sound.
"Bug!...That was a bug" Gyatso yelled.
….
When they were all back on the ground, Katara and Kya came over to them.
"We saw you flying" Said Kya; she was in a much happier mood after practising with her mother. Katara had given her some good advice that she would try next time she trained.
"Would you like to fly with me?" Asked Aang to Katara
Katara remembered the last time she had been on a glider by herself and shuddered at the memory of a bug in her mouth.
"I'll stick with gravity, you know, both feet on the ground" Said Katara, and to her surprise Aang, Tenzin and Gyatso doubled up laughing at this.
"What's so funny?" Asked Kya, looking confused.
"Haha! Hey Gyatso" Said Tenzin, struggling to get the words out of his mouth due to laughter.
"Hehe, Yeah?" Said Gyatso.
"Gravity!" He yelled and He, Aang and Gyatso fell to the ground laughing.
"Must be an Airbender thing" Said Katara to her daughter, Kya nodded and followed her mother inside.
"Hehe, Gravity"
