Shifting Clouds
-In which we visit Ba Sing Se!
I do not own Avatar: The Last Airbender or The Last Airbender: The Legend Of Korra, but I do have a friend that's been trying to guess my username, I said it's my weird hobby and my lucky number so his guess was storywriter13…feel free to guess the story behind my name!
A/N some people were wondering ages so…
Kasami and Azayla are the same ages
Tenzin and Gyatso are the same ages
Sen is 2 years older than Kya
Kya is 3 years older than Tenzin and Gyatso
Sen is 5 years older than Tenzin and Gyatso
Rei is just a few months younger than Kya
Sen is 2 years older than Rei
Kya is 5 years older than Kasami
Tenzin and Gyatso are 2 years older than Kasami
That's the document I have on my computer, Kasami just turned 1 so Kya is 6 years old, Tenzin and Gyatso are 3 years old and the rest I'm sure you can figure out, review or PM me if you have any more questions!
….
It was a cool, crisp winter's morning, the days were soon to become unbearably bitter, but this did not stop one family from planning a mini-vacation. Aang, Katara, Kya, Gyatso, Tenzin and Kasami were all in Appa saddle; (well Aang was actually on Appas head). They had risen early that morning in order to fulfil their plans for the day.
Aang urged Appa to go higher, and then silently told his wife why he had wanted Appa to fly higher; she immediately caught on and then turned to her children.
"Do you three want to try a new kind of bending?" she asked to Kya, Tenzin and Gyatso
They looked at her inquisitively in response
"Do you know what clouds are made of?" asked Katara
"Uh…soft white stuff?" Tenzin answered uncertainly
"No, there made of air and water"
They all looked at her with wide eyes
"Your dad and I have bended them before, Kya can bend clouds because she's a waterbender and Tenzin and Gyatso can bend them because their airbenders"
"We can bend clouds?" asked Gyatso, Katara affirmed this with a nod
"Can we try?" asked Kya with a gleam in her eyes
"Sure, that's why daddy has bought us up this high"
Kya, Tenzin and Gyatso all slowly rose to their feet, Kasami was asleep and Appas saddle was not the most stable place they could think of. Under Katara and Aangs watch their started to manipulate the clouds around them.
After getting a feel for how to shift the clouds, they began to move them more confidently. Anyone that was to look up at the sky would see a trail of swirling clouds flying out behind their bison.
They only stopped when they were soaked to the skin from over enthusiastic bending and bad aims.
"I want to do that again!" exclaimed Tenzin as Aang moved Appas reigns in a way that indicated to the bison he should start his descent
"We can do it on the way home sweetie, for now just dry yourselves off" Katara instructed
Tenzin and Gyatso both used their airbending to rid themselves of the liquid that had covered them whilst Kya used her waterbending. Katara and Aang used waterbending to shield themselves and Kasami from the flying water droplets that had been discarded from their sons.
….
"We're here!" sang Aang as he guided Appa to where he wanted him to land, the children took in their surroundings before Kya spoke up
"Isn't this Ba Sing Se?" She asked
"Yup" answer Aang happily
"What are we going to do here?" Asked Gyatso enthusiastically
"First, we are going to visit Iroh, the rest is a surprise" answered Aang as he used an airbending enhanced jump to reach the ground. The twins did the same thing but Aang lifted Kya, Kasami and Katara out himself. Kya started to run around as soon as she was on solid ground, Kasami woke up after being jostled and decided she wanted to walk and Katara and Aang shared a kiss before guiding to children to their destination; The Jasmine Dragon
….
Aang and Katara walked hand in hand down the streets of Ba Sing Se, Katara held the hand of Kasami who could not walk properly yet. They kept a watchful eye on their other children but Kya, Tenzin and Gyatso knew better then to run off- especially in a city they had little experience with!
They soon caught sight of The Jasmine Dragon, Kya, Tenzin and Gyatso ran in first to greet Iroh, Kasami saw her siblings run off and decided she wanted to mimic them, she tried to run but she stumbled and got pulled up by Katara. They soon entered the blissfully warm teashop to find their three eldest getting hugged by Iroh, Aang made his way over to the Firebending master and bowed deeply, Iroh returned the bow but pulled him into a hug nonetheless. Katara slowly made her way over trying to keep pace with Kasami; they exchanged hugs and greeting before Iroh left to go make some tea for them.
In the middle of a wall Iroh has built a huge fire which he kept going with his Firebending, it is around this fire that Aang and Katara huddled to discuss their plans for the day.
"Where are the kids?" asked Aang staring into the flames
"Kasami is over there in the corner and Kya, Ten and Gyats are helping Iroh make the tea" replied Katara in a hushed tone
"Do you think they'll like our…next stop?" he asked, choosing his words carefully
"Don't be so worried, they'll love it!" responded Katara
"Ok love" he laughed before putting his arm around Kataras shoulder, "She always knows just the right thing to say" he thought to himself before voicing it in another way
"I love you" he told her with a smile
"I love you too" Katara replied before they shared a kiss
Gyatso entered the room at that moment and exclaimed "Ew" the couple laughed before getting handed their tea.
Iroh had always tried to get the perfect blend for everyone in the family and he nearly did, the only person who he didn't know what their preferences were was Kasami. Her tastebuds were still developing and her favourite blend might have dramatically changed by the next time he saw her. He served Kasami an average blend- most people like it- and he added lots of milk as to not burn the young mouth she possessed.
Whilst drinking their tea they spoke of a lot of things, Katara and Aang learned that Mai was due to have her child within the month and they suspected it too be as boy. Iroh had a twinkle in his eye whenever he spoke about them and you could tell he was very proud. Katara and Aang told him of their plans to visit the South Pole and how they had heard rumours of a herd of bison living on a remote island. Aang was especially eager to talk about the last one for he wanted to go and see if the rumours were true but time would not permit him to do such things.
The minutes drew into hours and as much as they wanted to stay and chat with Iroh they were afraid they wouldn't have enough light left to do other things, they bade him farewell after promising to come and visit again.
….
Aang led his family down the streets of Ba Sing Se, he had opted to catch the Earthbender powered trains instead of flying on Appa- he assumed it would be a good experience for the children.
They caught the last train going of the day and sat down. The children stared out the window fascinated with the speed they were going. Appa didn't go this fast- and even if he did it was hard to tell when you were so high. Some of the passengers looked at Aang and his family in awe, he tried to start a conversation with some of them to indicate that just because he was the avatar he wasn't a different person but none would comply.
Some of the woman on the train were shooting glares at Katara- she was the wife to one of the most important people in the world- but Aang would never let them hurt Katara, although he knew she could fend for herself in a fight he still felt protective of her.
….
The train slowed down near the outer ring of the city, the passengers allowed for the avatars family to exit first. The children jumped off the train and look around expectantly- they expected to be at their destination by now.
"Are we close daddy?" Asked Kya peering around
"Almost, just a short walk from here" Affirmed Aang and with that he took Kataras hand in his and began to walk
The twins cheered and ran after them; Kya started to run too and took in her surroundings. They seemed to be at the outer wall.
"Why would daddy bring us to the outer wall?" She thought
...
"We're here!" sang Aang and the children looked around.
"It's just a wall daddy" Gyatso pointed out to which Katara started to laugh
"It's what's behind the wall" he said mysteriously before earthbending a gap large enough for them to slip through in the wall.
The children walked with baited breath through the pitch black tunnel, as they reached the blinding sunlight they squinted their eyes.
As their eyes adjusted they began to take in what was around them.
It was a zoo! Kya gasped as she looked around the spectacular grounds there was natural earth walls separating the animals and each of them had enough room to exercise and run around and play. She much preferred this zoo to the others she had heard about- the ones where they kept the animals locked up in a cage.
There were Raberoos with babies in their pouches and an Armadillo bear. There was also a Platypus bear and several other animals she could name.
"Well hi there, welcome t-"The owner of the zoo stopped as he realised who he was talking to
"Ah, the avatar! You have humbled me by visiting the great zoo you created" Aang told him that it was no problem and he was glad it was still in business.
"You made this dad?" Asked Tenzin with wide eyes
"Yup" Answer Aang as he reached out to stroke the head of an Ostrich horse
"Wow" breathed Kya as she started to walk around the pens
Aang stayed chatting to the owner of the zoo about how well it was running while Katara walked around with Tenzin, Gyatso and Kasami.
Kasami squealed with laughter after she saw the Platypus bear lay an egg
….
They stayed at the zoo until the sun began to set and the children began to feel sleepy, the zoo owner offered for them to stay at his house for the night for he had several spare rooms but Katara politely declined. Aang drew the whistle which he kept around his neck and blew into it; a few minutes late Appa had landed- frightening all the animals in the process. Aang and Katara helped their children onto his saddle and with a "Yip Yip!" they began their journey back home.
The children wanted to try cloud bending again but son they felt the lull of sleep take over them, Katara promised they could try it again another day but she wasn't sure if her children were still awake to hear her. She covered all four of them in blankets before climbing onto Appas head; Katara and Aang sat there in peace until they reached the Air Temple. They gently carried the children to their beds and soon fell asleep themselves- it had been a long day.

Team Edward Girl- Thank you, the whole reason I'm writing this is because I don't think there are many like it out there, how far would you like me to go with it? It's really up to my readers, I can go either way.
Beak beak- Thanks! I love that pair too! I try to update regularly but sometimes I have too much work or computer issues
Annabeth- Thanks for the suggestion! I already know what kind of bender Kasami will be and I have a plan to introduce it but your idea is valid, I'm not sure if an avatar has ever had off spring that's not their native element…How old is Kya? I posted an age list at the beginning of the chapter and Kya is 6 years old!
