Chapter 2

Lizzie

I was standing opposite a man unlike any I'd ever come across before, arrogant and self assured and decidedly rugged he was infuriating and annoyingly attractive. The sweep of hair that fell into his warm brown eyes occasionally was especially...NO! Stop it Lizzie! Get to your brother, that's all that matters, he'll help you. I straightened up

"Nice as this has been, I should really get going." The man – Robin? - caught her wrist in his rather rough hand and said

"Hold up, what if I don't let you leave? This is my neck of the woods and I'm intrigued as to why you're running away." She stared at him to see if he was joking or not and when it became apparent that he as being quite serious she sighed in exasperation.

"Oh for God's sake!" she said, stamping her foot. "I am running away from something bad in order to hopefully get to something better, isn't that why people run away?"

Robin considered her, she had a point...but he was still curious and she got prettier by the second.

"And what exactly is it that you're running from?"

"I – I'd rather not say. I, well, something bad. Someone bad." She looked down and drew in a shaking breath as Robin watched her. "Now please let me go!" Robin released his grip on her wrist and shrugged. They stared at each other until the silence was broken by the thunder of hooves. Lizzie's mouth fell open and she backed away in terror. Robin (making his second snap decision of the day) beckoned to her and whispered

"C'mon I'll help you." She nodded and followed him as he ran through the forest. Soon it became evident that the horses were all around them. Robin skidded to a halt and looked around for a place to hide but she could see from his expression that they'd been caught.

Sure enough black shapes appeared from the surrounding shadows and moved in.

Robin

Cursing Robin saw Gisbourne and his men emerge from the shadows.

"Loxley!" Gisbourne spat "You've got something of mine and I want it back!" he extended a black clad hand and gestured for Robin to hand it over. Just what did he want handed over though, now that was the question. Presently Robin had stolen too many things to count from Gisbourne, he was just about to ask which particular item he was referring to and then to tell him he'd not be seeing it again when an incredulous voice spoke from behind him.

"Guy?" Elizabeth breathed. Wait...what? Gisborne looked at her briefly then glared at Robin

"Come on Loxley, hand her over." He drew his sword and came two paces closer. So he wanted the girl, Robin mused. Seeing Gisbourne take a few more steps he grabbed Elizabeth and pulled her in front of him with his dagger at her throat, whispering "Nothing personal," in her ear. She felt very fragile in his arms, breakable. Gisbourne had stopped in his tracks and was glaring at Robin with unveiled loathing.

"What do you want,Loxley?" He said through clenched teeth.

"Well, I wouldn't say no to some money in exchange for this lovely lady," He said smiling pleasantly. Gisbouurne growled and said

"I have not got any with me, just give me -"

"Nope. No deal. Come back when you have got some money and then you can have the girl." He enjoyed watching Gisbourne clench and unclench his fists, clearly partaking in an intense internal battle.

"Tomorrow at noon." He said before turning on his heel and stalking back into the shadows, his men following behind.

When they were gone he released his hold on Elizabeth and she whirled around furiously, breathing heavily with one slender hand on her neck.

"How dare you?" she said heatedly and her eyes went from blue skies on a warm summers day to Christmas at the Snow Queens palace. Robin surveyed her warily

"So why did Gisbourne want you then?" He asked, meeting her gaze

"He's my brother." She said shortly.

"Your what?" Robin spluttered and studied her face for any resemblance to the one he hated. "You're joking" He finished, finding none.

"No I am not!" She said stamping her foot.

"But...he's an asshole!"

*Slap

Robin put a hand to his aching face, it was going to be a long night.
