Seven years on ffn, and it just occurred to me that I could write Disney fanfiction! Watch out, readers! Mwahahahaha. Enjoy, and please review!

This wasn't going to work.

Tears filled Ariel's eyes as she watched over Eric's unconscious form. He was sprawled out on the sandy shore with the sun's rays warming his skin. Just a few hours ago, she had pulled him out of the ocean after he used a sunken ship to destroy Ursula once and for all. He had been so pale, she was certain she had lost him. But once he was on the beach, she realized he was breathing and she reluctantly left his side, swimming back to the rock she had rested on just three days ago after saving his life from the ocean the first time. It was fitting, really.

She wanted to be with him, needed him more than she had ever needed anything or anyone in her life. Now she had to let him go. She had learned more in the past three days than she had in sixteen years about love and being loved. Now she was learning about loving someone enough to let them go. It hurt more than she had anticipated. However, she didn't regret any of the past three days. Even though she had almost lost her life several times, it had somehow been worth it.

He was worth it.

So she sat there on the rock for hours, watching him and knowing this would be the last time she saw him so close. She would return to the ocean and he would stay on the land. The sooner she accepted it, the better things would be.

And yet…

Before she could complete the thought, a warmth surrounded and enveloped her. Looking over her shoulder, she saw her father behind her, his trident in his hand and a sad smile on his face. Her face lit up when she realized what he was doing. Moments later, her fin had turned back into legs and she was walking toward the shore as Eric stirred. When he took her into his arms and held her tightly, she knew she was right where she was meant to be.

The End.
