Chapter 15: Idiot

Break up. Break up? Did Sasuke hear right? Maybe it's all just a bad dream and he would wake up any second. Any second would be nice now…

Though that happened in the morning, Sasuke felt like the day ended as fast as that break up. He didn't even remember when he slept when he woke up the next day.

Sasuke sat on his sofa. Sunday was one of his free days anyway. He took a walk outside ** but nothing outside distracted him from his thoughts of Neji.

Finding the walk completely useless, Sasuke returned home and simply slept the rest of that evening.

On that Monday morning, Sasuke lazily dragged his body to the closet and wore his uniform. He went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. Since when was Neji so important to him?

After washing his face he looked up once more. "…Just because he said we are going to break up doesn't mean I approve of it…" He told himself. Gaining more confidence, Sasuke left his apartment and headed to school.

Sasuke peeked in the classroom to see Neji with glasses and reading a book. He felt his face grow hot because since he never seen Neji wear glasses before. He had no courage to go in.

"What are you doing?" A squeaky voiced said.

Sasuke flinched and slid the door shut and turned around to see Tenten leaning on the staircase. "W-what are you doing here so early?" Sasuke asked. "Kendo." Tenten said simply.

Sasuke sighed. "Oh, well, see you around." He said. Tenten lowered her eyelids and stood up straight. "Wait."

Sasuke turned his head slightly and Tenten grinned. "Something happened between you and Neji right?"

Sasuke widened his eyes and turned around to check if anyone was listening. "…Let's change places. This is not a good area…" He said.

"BROKE UP?!" Tenten shouted. "Shh!" Sasuke hushed. Tenten held her mouth and whispered. "What the heck did you do to piss him off enough to break up with you? If anything I thought you'd break up with such an arrogant bastard…" Tenten said.

"You're his childhood friend right?" Sasuke asked Tenten, who nodded. Perhaps Tenten was a good person to tell this too. She did not seem like one of those crazy girls who chased him.

The two headed to a door that lead to a staircase at the far end of the school where no one would go. It was an area where Sasuke and Neji would sit and chat.

After Sasuke told Tenten what happened, Tenten had the most amusing face. "Are you some sort of idiot?" She asked. Sasuke was a little angry at that but he held it in. "What are you talking about?" He asked.

"Don't rush things like his past into a relationship…" Tenten said, slapping her forehead. "Though I know you two got close quickly and easily, sometimes some things are meant to be said at a later time. You can't force that out of him. Of course Neji has some faults for not knowing how to be in a relationship too." Tenten explained.

"But do you know why he acts that way towards his own family? I would give anything in the world to be like that with my family again…" Sasuke said.

Tenten sighed, folding her arms and thinking. "I don't think you should ask me…I do know but I can't just go and tell my friend's past that he himself did not want to tell you yet. Do you get where I'm going with this?" Tenten said. Sasuke looked down and nodded.

Suddenly, the door opened and Neji walked in, noticing that Sasuke and Tenten were sitting together and talking quietly. Sasuke heard this and turned his head, watching Neji's surprised face turn into a scowl.

Neji slammed the door shut and Sasuke stood up to chase him. Before he could, Tenten stopped him. "This is just my opinion, but I think Neji clearly likes you. Even though he broke up with you, I think he still has feelings for you. I haven't seen him smile the way he did to you in a long time. Good luck." Tenten said, winking.

Sasuke blushed at this and nodded, thanking her and rushing out to find Neji. He was unable to locate him immediately, but when the bell rang, he knew he could find him in the classroom.

Sure enough Neji was sitting at his seat, dodging paper balls that Kiba and Naruto were throwing at each other. He probably wanted some peace while he read his book. Sasuke smiled warmly and thought how cute that was.

He felt a tap on his head and looked up. Kakashi had placed his book on Sasuke's head and smiled. (?)

"To your seat Sasuke, it is class time." He said. Neji saw Sasuke and looked down at his books, not wanting to see his face. Why was he with Tenten? Right after breaking up Sasuke went after someone else so quickly? Just like his brother…

The more he thought about it the angrier he became, barely paying any attention in class. "Hyūga… Hyūga!" Gai called out.

Neji shot a glare. It was gym time and since it was raining, they were indoors. "Show me your youth with these wooden planks! Chop them with your youthful hands!" Gai shouted, overlapping the assistant who was desperately trying to tell him karate chopping wood wasn't allowed unless you were on the team.

"Damn these planks are so damn thick, how can anyone chop through them? Our teacher is crazy…where did he get them anyway?" Naruto complained, blowing his red hand that was throbbing from attempting to break the wood.

"This is against the school rules." Neji simply told Gai. "NONSENSE! RULES ARE MEANT TO BE BROKEN BY YOUTH!" Gai shouted.

"NOW CHOP THEM! BREAK THEM UP!" Gai shouted, once again completely ignoring his assistance's warnings.

Neji's ears twitched when hearing the word 'breakup'. It reminded him of Sasuke and where he found him this morning.

"Please, you can't do this without permission of the principal at least!" The assistant shouted. "DON'T WORRY, MY YOUTH ALLOWS IT!" Gai replied. "But-"

Before anyone could say another word there was a loud slam followed by a bunch of snapping sounds.

Neji had punched through the stack of wood with his bare fist and left the floor scratched as well. The entire gym stared at him in awe.

"T-that's the spirit! See what youth can do to you?" Gai said to his assistant. Neji stood up and swiped his hand side to side, tossing wood pieces off of his hand.

Sasuke looked at the wooden planks. Every single one of them was broken. The planks that no one could break were completely obliterated by Neji.

Neji did not stay for anyone to scold him. He merely left to change back into his uniform and planned on cutting gym.

Sasuke followed Neji after seeing Gai being scolded by Tsunade. He looked around to find out where Neji had gone to and walked to the locker room.

Neji turned around and Sasuke saw his gym shirt halfway off of his body. Neji glared and Sasuke closed the door slowly to let him finish.

He sat on the floor and leaned on the door. "…I'm sorry." Sasuke said. Neji said nothing though he could clearly hear him.

"…I shouldn't have pressured you to tell me everything. I'm sorry." Sasuke repeated. Still no words.

"I know you said you want to break up with me…but I don't. So…" Sasuke hesitated. "I'll wait for you. No matter what."

The door swung open and Sasuke fell backwards, finally allowing him to look at Neji in the eyes. Neji's eyes were cold and indifferent, but he looked at Sasuke in his eyes as well. There Sasuke knew that Neji still cared.

Neji stepped over the fallen Sasuke and walked ahead but slowly. Sasuke noticed this and ran into the locker room, changing quickly and running back out with his shirt buttoned the wrong way and his pants nearly falling off, to catch up to Neji. He was waiting for Sasuke after all.

Sasuke walked with Neji to the classroom as Neji took out his book to read. "What are you reading?" Sasuke asked, noticing the book was covered. Neji ignored him, slightly blushing.

Sasuke took the liberty to take the book cover off and look at the title "How to make up after a fight for married couples."

Sasuke snorted and snickered. "Shut up, it's research…for psychology." Neji lied, blushing.

Sasuke nodded, glad they were back to normal. He attempted to place his hand on Neji's but Neji dodged.

"We broke up." Neji reminded him. "…can we make up then?" Sasuke asked, thinking Neji already forgave him.

"Not for now…I don't think I'm ready to be in a relationship now." Neji replied.

Sasuke looked down in disappointment. "But you said you'll wait." Neji said, bringing Sasuke's head back up.

"So wait…" Neji said, embarrassed to the point where he had to hide his face in his book.

Sasuke smiled. "Okay…"

"What were you doing with Tenten?" Neji asked.

Sasuke smiled. He smelled jealousy.

"Asking her for advice. I realized what an idiot I was thanks to her." Sasuke said.

Neji glared at him.

"No no, I am not falling for her." Sasuke said, watching Neji revert to his normal face.

"I see."

Tenten was right. Neji was still in love with Sasuke.
