Chapter 4

6 months later...

Jack leaped onto the stone window sill and peered in through the window to see if anyone was in the room. No one. Jack slowly opened the window and crept in. He walked over to the crib and found Elsa sleeping. He gazed upon the three-year-old and smiled. He leaned against the crib railing and waited for her to wake up. Within five minutes, she woke up.

She smiled up at him, happy to see that her friend had come to see her again. Elsa got up and wrapped her arms around Jack. He returned her hug. Jack pulled her out and set her on the ground. She ran away from him over to the window. She placed her hands on the wooden window rail and looked out at the quart yard.

As she did, Jack noticed that under her hands, the rail was beginning to turn light blue. She looked at her hands. Jack walked over to her. He took her hands and looked at them. They didn't look any different. Just cold. When he looked at the rail, he realized it was frost. He chuckled.

"Dak? What that?" she asked.

Jack let go of her hands and held up one of his. He waved him hand around and formed a snowball. She gasped.

"See this?" he asked her. She nodded.

"Me and you," he pointed to both of them,"this is something that we can do."

"How?" she asked.

Jack shrugged.

"I don't know. I guess it's because of the moon." He pointed to the white moon in the sky above.

"Oooh," she cooed.

She slowly held up her hand and touched the glass. As she did, frost formed under her fingertip. She pulled her hand away quickly and looked at Jack. He nodded. She moved her hand all over the glass, making frost. She giggled. She had never known that she was capable of anything like that. She took her hand off the window and waved her hand around like Jack did. She made a small snowflake, which was about all she could really do since she was so little.

"Good job, Snowflake." he said.

"Snowflake, snowflake snowflake!" she said as she waved her hands around.

Elsa went back to drawing on the window with frost. She enjoyed it. Once or twice she made a snowflake, then went to try and make another, but failed. Jack figured that because of her age or size, she wasn't able to do much. Once the window was covered in frost, she went onto the walls by her crib and drew some more. She acted as if she were creating her masterpiece, which Jack found amusing.

Jack stood there with both hands on his staff, watching the little girl amaze herself with her power. Every so often, she would turn to him and point at what she did. He would nod, then she would go back to drawing.

After hours of running around her side of the room, drawing in frost on whatever she wished, Elsa began to grow tired. She frequently yawned and rubbed her eyes. Jack couldn't help but smile at the poor tired girl.

Elsa slowly walked over to Jack and hugged his leg. He carefully sat down and place her in his lap. He wrapped his arms around her as she fell asleep. After a while, he got up and placed her in her bad. Jack sat down on the floor right beside her crib and watched her sleep. He leaned his forehead up against the thin bars of the crib and watched her slightly fidget occasionally as she dreamed.

Soon, he found himself getting tired too. Jack laid back and stared up at the ceiling, wondering how the world will accept Elsa. He feared that they would think of her as just a monster, and try to kill her. He thought of her getting scared and using her powers to stop them, resulting in her hurting them, making them want to hurt her even more.

Jack shook the horrible thoughts out of his head. He looked at Elsa again.

"I promise you," he whispered, "that I will always protect you no matter what."

Jack got up onto his knees and gripped the bars of her crib.

"I promise you with all my heart, that I will do anything to keep you safe, you hear me?" he asked, "I won't let anyone hurt you on my watch. I will be by your side. All the time, okay? Always, ya hear. Always. Why?" he took a deep breath, "Because I love you, Elsa. I don't know what I'd do without you."

Jack knew that a three year old wouldn't really know what that meant, but he knew that she knew he loved her.
